Description

A delicious cheesy onion bake that is perfect as a dip or side dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia or Walla Walla)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (full-fat)
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried thyme)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the sweet onions thinly.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and add the onions. Sauté until translucent.
  3. Lower the heat, add a pinch of salt, and continue cooking until the onions are golden brown (about 20-25 minutes).
  4. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Fold in half of the caramelized onions and half of the shredded cheeses into the mixture.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Spread the mixture in a baking dish and top with remaining onions and cheese.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving with chips or veggies.
