Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a sweet and delightful breakfast dish made with soft Hawaiian rolls, dipped in a rich custard and cooked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian Rolls (12-count)
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk (or half & half for richness)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (for frying)

Optional Toppings:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple syrup
  • Fresh fruit (bananas, strawberries, blueberries)
  • Whipped cream or coconut whipped topping

Instructions

  1. Tear or cut the Hawaiian rolls apart. You can leave them whole or slice them in half for more surface area (like thick “mini toast”).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and salt until smooth and well combined.
  3. Dip each roll into the custard mixture, turning to coat evenly. Let it soak for about 5–10 seconds — just enough to absorb flavor but not get soggy.
  4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a bit of butter. Place the dipped rolls in the pan, cut side down. Cook each side for about 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  5. Stack on a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and drizzle with warm maple syrup. Add fruit or whipped cream for extra flair.

Notes

  • For a stuffed version, add a dollop of cream cheese, Nutella, or fruit preserves between halved rolls before dipping.
  • For a coconut twist, replace milk with coconut milk and sprinkle toasted coconut flakes on top.
  • For a baked version, arrange in a buttered baking dish, pour custard over top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes.
