Description
Hobo Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish made with layers of ground beef, potatoes, and cheese, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about ⅛-inch thick)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheddar & mozzarella)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned and onion is tender (about 6–7 minutes). Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Spread half of the beef mixture on top and sprinkle 1 cup cheese over beef. Repeat with remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and finish with cheese.
- Cover dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving and garnish with parsley.
Notes
- Veggie Boost: Add a layer of corn, green beans, or mushrooms between the beef and potatoes.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes.
- Cheesy Upgrade: Stir some Velveeta or cream cheese into the beef mixture for extra creaminess.
