- ¾ cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder

- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water or hot coffee
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- ½ cup heavy cream (plus extra if needed, for frosting)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
- ¼ teaspoon salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line two 8-inch round pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, dark cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and beat on medium speed for 1–2 minutes until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the boiling water (or hot coffee) to the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly into the pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until smooth and fluffy.
- Add dark cocoa powder and half the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed.
- Pour in the heavy cream, vanilla, and salt, then add the remaining powdered sugar and beat on high for 2–3 minutes until thick and creamy.
- Assemble the cake by placing the first layer on a plate, spreading frosting evenly, adding the second layer, and coating the top and sides with frosting.

- Hot coffee intensifies the chocolate flavor dramatically.
- Chill the cake layers for 20 minutes before frosting for easier stacking.
- Use high-quality dark cocoa for a deeper flavor and darker color.
