Description

Italian Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring a savory meat sauce served on crispy garlic bread topped with melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (optional)
  • 1 large French bread loaf (cut into halves or 4 long pieces)
  • 5 tbsp softened butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • Optional: provolone or parmesan for extra flavor
  • Fresh parsley for garnish
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt. Spread generously on each bread piece.
  2. Toast the Bread: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place garlic-buttered bread on a baking sheet. Bake for 6–8 minutes, until lightly toasted but not fully browned.
  3. Cook the Meat: In a skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in marinara, tomato paste, Worcestershire, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt & pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick and saucy.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the hot sloppy joe meat onto the toasted garlic bread. Top with lots of mozzarella (and provolone/parmesan if using).
  5. Bake: Return to oven at 400°F (200°C) for 5–7 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbling.
  6. Finish & Serve: Sprinkle with fresh parsley and add red pepper flakes if you like heat. Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add more red pepper flakes.
  • Feel free to use ground turkey or chicken as a substitute for beef.
  • Leftover meat sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
