Description
Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers are a healthy twist on traditional comfort food, featuring cabbage cups filled with a savory meat mixture and topped with melted cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large green cabbage
- 2–3 tbsp olive oil
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (optional — skip for keto)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup marinara or tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Remove outer leaves and slice cabbage into thick rounds (about 1.5-2 inches thick). Place slices on a greased baking sheet. Brush with olive oil, season with salt & pepper. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until beginning to soften.
- While cabbage bakes, mix together in a bowl: ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs (optional), seasonings, Worcestershire, and 2–3 tbsp marinara. Combine well.
- Remove cabbage from oven. Spoon meat mixture onto each cabbage slice and form into “burger” patties. Spoon a little marinara on top. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until meat is cooked.
- Top each with shredded cheese. Return to oven for 5–7 minutes to melt. Garnish with parsley.
Notes
- Swap ground beef for turkey, pork, or plant-based meat.
- Add chili flakes for heat.
- Make mini versions with cabbage leaves.
- Refrigerate for 3–4 days or freeze (after baking) for 2–3 months.
- Reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
