Description

A classic Philly Cheesesteak recipe featuring ground beef, sautéed vegetables, and melted provolone cheese, served in toasted hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small red or orange bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 4 hoagie rolls or soft sub rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (or shredded provolone/ mozzarella)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and peppers. Sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened and lightly browned. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds more. Push veggies to one side of the pan.
  2. Add ground beef to the empty side of the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Add to the pan: Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix the beef with the cooked vegetables until everything is well combined. Let it simmer 2–3 minutes for flavor to develop.
  4. Slice hoagie rolls open (but not all the way through). Lightly toast them in a dry skillet or oven for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Option 1 (melt in pan): Divide the beef mixture into 4 sections in the skillet. Place 2 slices of provolone cheese on each portion. Cover pan and let cheese melt. Scoop into rolls. Option 2 (melt in oven): Spoon beef mixture into rolls. Top with cheese. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes until melted.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot!

Notes

  • Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Swap provolone for white American cheese for classic Philly taste.
  • Toasting the rolls keeps them from getting soggy.
  • Add sliced jalapeños for heat.
