Description

A delicious and easy recipe for Texas Toast Sloppy Joes, perfect for a quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (8 slices) frozen Texas toast (garlic or buttery style)
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar or Colby Jack cheese

Instructions

  1. Bake Texas toast according to package directions (usually 5–6 minutes at 425°F) until lightly toasted on one side.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Flip the Texas toast over (so the crisp side is down). Spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe mixture on top of each slice. Sprinkle with cheese.
  5. Return to oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Optional toppings include crumbled bacon, diced pickles, or a drizzle of ranch or BBQ sauce.
