Ingredients

Scale

For the Popcorn:

  • ½ cup popcorn kernels (makes about 12 cups of popcorn)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or coconut oil, for stovetop method)

For the White Cheddar Coating:

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup white cheddar cheese powder (see notes for best brands)
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

1. Pop the Popcorn

Stovetop Method:

  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add 3-4 kernels as testers. When they pop, add the remaining kernels, cover, and shake occasionally.
  • Once popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove from heat.

Air-Popped Method:

  • Use an air popper to pop the kernels into a large bowl (no oil needed).

Microwave Method:

  • Use plain microwave popcorn (avoid buttered varieties for the best cheese coating).

2. Melt the Butter

  • In a small bowl, melt ¼ cup unsalted butter. This helps the cheese powder stick evenly to the popcorn.

3. Coat the Popcorn

  • Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn while tossing to coat evenly.
  • Sift the white cheddar powder, salt, and garlic powder over the popcorn while stirring continuously.

4. Toss & Serve

  • Shake or toss until every kernel is coated in cheesy goodness.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Best White Cheddar Powder Brands: Try Hoosier Hill Farm, King Arthur, or Anthony’s Cheese Powder for real, high-quality cheddar flavor.
  • No Cheese Powder? Substitute with grated Parmesan for a different cheesy twist.
  • For Extra Crunch: Bake the coated popcorn at 250°F (120°C) for 10 minutes to make it even crispier.
  • Storage Tip: Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. If it softens, refresh in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 5 minutes.
