This hanging holder stores three spare rolls in three small lavender baskets. Each basket has a row of cream bows around the middle and a scalloped rim edged in cream. The baskets are sewn to the front of a lavender lattice strap, and the strap loops over a wooden ring so you can hang the holder on a door hook.
The colors are a soft lilac and a warm cream, so it suits a cottage-style or vintage bathroom. Each bow is three floating cream chains pulled together at the center with a wrap of yarn. They sit on the surface, so you keep a plain single crochet base under them.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. Each basket measures about 6 in (15.2 cm) across the scallop tips and 3.25 in (8.3 cm) tall. The finished holder hangs about 21 in (53.3 cm) long, ring included, and the strap is 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide.
Construction overview: you work each basket from the bottom up in continuous joined rounds, then add the bows. Next you crochet the lattice strap in rows from the bottom, taper it, and finish with a tab that folds over the ring. Tack the baskets to the strap, then work the scalloped rim on each basket last.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: 21 in (53.3 cm) long including ring; strap 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide
- Skill level: Easy-intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4) cotton
- Hook: 4.5 mm (US 7)
- Number of pieces: 4 (3 identical baskets + 1 lattice strap), plus a wooden ring
- Layout: baskets stacked vertically on one strap
- Piece size: basket 6 in (15.2 cm) across tips, 3.25 in (8.3 cm) tall; base 4.75 in (12.1 cm) across

Materials
Choose a smooth, firm worsted-weight cotton or cotton blend. Cotton holds its shape well and copes with bathroom humidity. Avoid splitty or very fuzzy yarn, because the bows need clean, defined chains.
- Lavender (MC): 150 g, about 255 m (279 yd)
- Cream (CC): 50 g, about 85 m (93 yd)
- 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook
- 1 wooden ring, 2.5 in (6.4 cm) outer diameter
- Tapestry needle
- 4 stitch markers
- Scissors and a measuring tape
Quantities include about a 20% margin. The three baskets use roughly 30 g lavender and 10 g cream each, and the strap uses about 35 g lavender.

Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 16 sc and 18 rounds = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc worked in the round.
Make one basket body (Rnds 1–21) before you start anything else. It doubles as your gauge test, and the base has to fit a standard roll.
Checkpoints:
- After Rnd 6 (36 sts), the base measures 2.75 in (7.0 cm) across.
- After Rnd 11 (66 sts), the base measures 4.75 in (12.1 cm) across.
- After Rnd 19, the sides measure 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall from the base ridge.
- After Rnd 21, the sides measure 2.25 in (5.7 cm) tall.
- In the strap, every 2 mesh rows add 1.25 in (3.2 cm).
Too big? Go down to a 4 mm (US G-6) hook. Too small? Go up to a 5 mm (US H-8) hook. If a roll won’t fit inside the base after Rnd 11, add one more increase round (72 sts), then work Rnd 20 as plain sc instead of increasing.

Basket (Make 3)
Work in joined rounds: at the end of each round, sl st to the first sc and ch 1. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch. Use lavender unless a round says otherwise.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc in ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: (sc 1, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: (sc 2, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: (sc 3, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (30 sts)
Rnd 6: (sc 4, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (36 sts)
Rnd 7: (sc 5, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (42 sts)
Rnd 8: (sc 6, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (48 sts)
Rnd 9: (sc 7, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (54 sts)
Rnd 10: (sc 8, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (60 sts)
Rnd 11: (sc 9, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (66 sts)
Rnd 12: sc in BLO of each st. (66 sts) This round makes the ridge where the base turns into the sides.
Rnds 13–19: sc in each st. (66 sts)
Rnd 20: (sc 10, 2 sc in next) 6 times. (72 sts) This gives the basket a gentle flare.
Rnd 21: sc in each st. (72 sts) Fasten off, leaving a long lavender tail.
Float Bows (Rnds 17–19)
Rnds 17–19 have 66 sts, which divide into 6 sections of 11 sts. Each section is a 7-st bow area followed by a 4-st gap. Mark the first st of each bow area. Every bow is 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide, and the gaps between bows are 1 in (2.5 cm) of lavender.
Work each bow with cream, holding the basket right side out:
- Insert hook from the front into st 1 of the bow area on Rnd 17 and pull up a loop. Ch 9, then sl st into st 7 of the same area on Rnd 17.
- Sl st up into st 7 on Rnd 18. Ch 9, then sl st into st 1 on Rnd 18.
- Sl st up into st 1 on Rnd 19. Ch 9, then sl st into st 7 on Rnd 19.
- Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail. Thread it onto the needle and bring it out at the front through st 4 of Rnd 19. Wrap it firmly around all three chains at their center 3 times, then take the needle to the inside through st 4 of Rnd 18 and knot.
The chains are 9 long but only span 7 sts, so they bulge into wings. The wrap pinches them into the knot at the center of the bow. Make 6 bows on each basket.
Lattice Strap (Make 1)
Use lavender and work in rows. The ch 1 at the start of a row does not count as a stitch.
Foundation: Ch 18.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (17 sc)
Row 2: ch 1, sc in first st, (ch 5, sk 3, sc in next st) 4 times. (4 ch-5 loops, 5 sc anchors)
Row 3: ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), sc in first ch-5 sp, (ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp) 3 times, ch 2, dc in last sc. (3 ch-5 loops + 2 half loops)
Row 4: ch 1, sc in first dc, (ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp) 3 times, ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch. (4 ch-5 loops, 5 sc anchors)
Rows 5–26: repeat Rows 3–4 eleven more times, for 12 repeats in total. Row 26 is a Row-4 type row.
Checkpoint: the strap measures about 16 in (40.6 cm) long and 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide when lightly stretched.
Row 27: ch 1, sc in first sc, (3 sc in next ch-5 sp, sc in next sc) 4 times. (17 sc)
Row 28: ch 1, sc2tog, sc 13, sc2tog. (15 sts)
Row 29: ch 1, sc2tog, sc 11, sc2tog. (13 sts)
Row 30: ch 1, sc2tog, sc 9, sc2tog. (11 sts)
Row 31: ch 1, sc2tog, sc 7, sc2tog. (9 sts)
Row 32: ch 1, sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog. (7 sts)
Rows 33–46: ch 1, sc in each st. (7 sts) The tab measures about 3 in (7.6 cm) long and 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide. Fasten off, leaving a 16 in (40.6 cm) tail.
Fold the tab over the wooden ring to the back and whipstitch the last row to Row 32.
Make All Pieces
- Baskets: 3, each using about 30 g lavender + 10 g cream (6 bows each, 18 bows in total)
- Strap: 1, using about 35 g lavender
Layout (top to bottom, front view):
[ wooden ring ]
[ tab, Rows 33-46 ]
[ taper, Rows 28-32 ]
[ open mesh, about 3 in / 7.6 cm ]
[ Basket 1: Rnd 21 tacked at Row 20 ]
[ mesh gap, 1.75 in / 4.4 cm ]
[ Basket 2: Rnd 21 tacked at Row 12 ]
[ mesh gap, 1.75 in / 4.4 cm ]
[ Basket 3: Rnd 21 tacked at Row 4 ]
Joining
Method: tack each basket to the front of the strap with the lavender tail and a tapestry needle. Each basket is attached at 5 upper points and 3 lower points.
Upper tack (stitch-to-stitch): find the 17 sts of Rnd 21 at the center back of the basket. Tack sts 1, 5, 9, 13 and 17 to the 5 sc anchors of the chosen even row. The basket sts are 4 apart, and the strap anchors are 4 foundation sts apart, so both spans are 16 sts, or 4 in (10.2 cm). The basket lies flat on the strap without puckering.
Lower tack: tack the Rnd 12 ridge at center back, plus the sts 4 to either side, to the nearest sc anchors in the middle of the strap.
Placement: Basket 3 goes at Row 4, Basket 2 at Row 12 and Basket 1 at Row 20. Even rows are 8 rows apart, which is 5 in (12.7 cm). Take away the 3.25 in (8.3 cm) basket height and that leaves a 1.75 in (4.4 cm) gap between baskets.
Tension: pass the needle through each point twice and pull just until the stitches touch. If you pull tighter, the mesh gathers and the strap gets shorter.
Size checkpoint: hang the strap from its ring. It should still measure 16 in (40.6 cm) from Row 1 to Row 27, and the baskets should hang level.
Border: Scalloped Rim
You work the rim on each basket after joining, so the upper tack points end up hidden behind the scallops. Each basket gets its own rim. The starting count is the 72 sts of Rnd 21. Tacking adds no stitches, so the count doesn’t change after joining.
Border gauge: each scallop uses 6 base sts, which is 1.5 in (3.8 cm) of Rnd 21. 72 ÷ 6 = 12 scallops exactly, so no partial repeat is left at the join.
Rnd 22 (lavender): join in any st of Rnd 21. Ch 1, sc in same st, sk 2, Shell in next st, sk 2, sc in next st. Repeat from * around, ending the last repeat with sk 2 and a sl st to the first sc. (12 shells: 12 sc + 84 dc = 96 sts) Push the hook in front of the tacking yarn when you work into the back sts.
Rnd 23 (cream): join in any sc. Sc in sc, sc in next 3 dc, 3 sc in 4th dc, sc in next 3 dc. Repeat around and sl st to the first sc. (96 sts worked 1 per st + 24 extra from the 3-sc corners = 120 sts)
Rnd 24 (cream): sl st loosely in each st around. (120 sts) Fasten off.
The extra 2 sts at each scallop tip let the cream edge go around the curve without cupping. Working 1 st into each st in the valleys keeps the dips sharp. The rim adds 1 in (2.5 cm), which brings the basket from 2.25 in (5.7 cm) to 3.25 in (8.3 cm).
Final Blocking
- Mist the whole piece lightly with water until it’s damp but not wet.
- Put a toilet roll in each basket to set the round shape.
- Lay the holder flat and pin the strap to 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide and 16 in (40.6 cm) long so the diamonds open evenly.
- Pinch each scallop tip into a soft point and smooth the cream edge.
- Fluff the bow wings and center each knot.
- Leave it to dry completely, then remove the pins and hang it.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each basket has 72 sts at Rnd 21 and 12 even scallops.
- All 18 bows are centered on their 7-st areas, with 4-st lavender gaps.
- Each basket base is 4.75 in (12.1 cm) across and holds a roll.
- Each strap row has 5 anchors and 4 full ch-5 loops (or 3 loops + 2 half loops).
- The mesh measures 16 in (40.6 cm) from Row 1 to Row 27.
- The baskets are attached at Rows 4, 12 and 20, with 1.75 in (4.4 cm) gaps.
- The tab is sewn securely around the ring.
- All ends are woven in on the inside.
Troubleshooting
- Base ruffles: check your increases. Every base round should add exactly 6 sts.
- Roll is too tight: add an increase round, as described in Gauge.
- Bows lie flat: make the chains longer (ch 10) or wrap the center more tightly.
- Bows droop: shorten the chains to ch 8.
- Scallops cup: use 6 dc per Shell, or loosen your tension on Rnd 23.
- Strap twists: check that the turning chains match Rows 3 and 4 exactly.
- Basket tilts forward: add a fourth lower tack point at center back.
Care
Hand wash cold and lay flat to dry, reshaping the baskets around a roll. Don’t tumble dry, because the bows can felt and lose their shape.

Final Notes
Here is the measurement chain from start to finish. Gauge is 16 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm). That gives a 66-st base 4.75 in (12.1 cm) across and a 72-st body 2.25 in (5.7 cm) tall. The 12 scallops bring each basket to 3.25 in (8.3 cm). The 17-st strap is 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide, and its 16 in (40.6 cm) mesh holds three baskets with 1.75 in (4.4 cm) gaps. The finished holder hangs 21 in (53.3 cm) long. If you check each step as you go, everything will line up at assembly.
Happy crocheting!
