This crochet door curtain has a boho, macramé-style look. A scalloped header band in teal and cream hangs from a wooden rod, and 16 beaded strands drop from it at different lengths. Each strand carries small fan-shaped medallions and ends in a soft tassel.
The colors are teal and cream. The header has stacked shell fans: a teal row, two cream rows, then a teal scalloped edge. Each medallion is a semicircle with a cream center and a teal edge, and a small pearl bead sits at its base. Tassels alternate teal and cream across the curtain.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished curtain is 33.25 in (84.5 cm) wide and about 70 in (177.8 cm) long, measured from the top edge of the header to the tip of the longest tassel.
Construction is simple. The header is worked flat in rows, from the rod edge down. You chain the strands directly from the header’s scallop points and work the fan medallions into the strands as you go, so nothing is sewn on. A three-sided border adds the rod tabs. Tassels are tied on last.

Materials
Use smooth worsted-weight cotton. It holds the shell shapes, hangs straight, and doesn’t fuzz in sunlight. Avoid acrylic: it is springy, and the long strands will twist.
Yarn (about 1.5 m per gram):
– Teal: 200 g, 300 m
– Cream: 100 g, 150 m
These quantities include a margin of about 25–40% for swatching, tassels, and strand adjustments.
Tools:
– 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
– 140 pearl beads, 8 mm, with holes of at least 2.5 mm (you need 128)
– A big-eye beading needle or dental floss threader for stringing beads
– 4 locking stitch markers
– A 3 in (7.6 cm) piece of cardboard for tassels
– Tapestry needle, scissors, and a tape measure
– A wooden rod, at least 36 in (91.4 cm) long and up to 0.75 in (1.9 cm) in diameter
– Blocking mat, pins, and a spray bottle
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sk: skip
- st(s): stitch(es)
- sp: space
- rep: repeat
- RS / WS: right side / wrong side
Special stitches
- Shell: 7 dc in the same stitch.
- Bead-ch: Slide a pre-strung bead up against the hook, then yo and pull through. The bead is locked into that chain.
- Fan Charm: A medallion worked directly onto the strand. It is fully explained in Part 2.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 16 sc and 16 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc.
Test one piece first. Make a small sample of the header: ch 18, then work Rows 1–7 below on 17 sts. That gives 2 shell repeats.
– Row 1 should measure 4.25 in (10.8 cm) wide.
– After Row 7, each scallop should be 2 in (5.1 cm) wide.
Then chain 4 in (10.2 cm) from one scallop point and work one Fan Charm. It should measure 2 in (5.1 cm) wide × 1 in (2.5 cm) tall.
Checkpoints:
– Row 1: 32.25 in (81.9 cm) wide
– After Row 3: 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep
– After Row 6: 2.5 in (6.4 cm) deep at the sides
– After Row 7: 2.75 in (7.0 cm) at the sides and 3.25 in (8.3 cm) at the points
– After the border: 33.25 in (84.5 cm) × 3.75 in (9.5 cm)
If your sample is too big, go down 0.5 mm in hook size. If it is too small, go up 0.5 mm. Don’t add or remove stitches. The 8-stitch shell repeat sets the strand spacing.

Part 1: Header Band
Work in rows from the rod edge down. Each shell fans downward, so the scallops point toward the floor.
Foundation: With teal, ch 130.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (129 sc)
Rows 2–3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (129 sc)
Checkpoint: the band measures 0.75 in (1.9 cm) deep.
Row 4 (teal shells): Ch 1, sc in first st. Sk 3 sts, shell in next st, sk 3 sts, sc in next st. Rep from * 15 more times. On the final yo, change to cream, then turn.
(16 shells and 17 sc = 112 + 17 = 129 sts)
Row 5 (cream): Ch 3 (counts as dc), 3 dc in first sc. Sc in 4th (center) dc of next shell, shell in next sc. Rep from * 14 more times. Sc in center dc of last shell, then 4 dc in last sc. Turn.
(15 shells + 16 sc + 2 half shells of 4 dc = 105 + 16 + 8 = 129 sts)
Row 6 (cream): Ch 1, sc in first dc. Shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell. Rep from * across. For the final sc, work into the top of the turning ch-3. Change to teal on the final yo, then turn.
(16 shells and 17 sc = 129 sts)
The Row 6 shells now sit directly below the Row 4 shells. Checkpoint: 2.5 in (6.4 cm) deep at the sides.
Row 7 (teal scallop edge): This is a trim row. Ch 1, sc in first sc. Sc in next 3 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in center dc, sc in next 3 dc, sc in next sc. Rep from * 15 more times. Do not fasten off yet.
(129 sts worked 1 each + 16 extra sc at the points = 145 sc, plus 16 ch-2 points)
Fasten off. The 16 ch-2 points are 2 in (5.1 cm) apart, and they are where the strands start.
Part 2: The Fan Charm (Worked in Place)
Each medallion is worked onto a teal strand at a spot called point B, which is the base of the fan.
- Chain until the strand reaches point B. Put the teal loop on a locking marker.
- Cream center: Join cream with a sl st in the last chain made. Ch 3 (counts as dc), then work 6 dc in that same chain. (7 dc) Fasten off cream and weave in the tail.
- Teal edge: Put the teal loop back on the hook. Sl st in the top of the beginning ch-3.
- Work (sc, ch 1, sc) in each of the next 3 dc.
- In the 4th (center) dc, work: sc, then sl st into the strand chain directly behind it (about the 3rd ch above point B), then sc. This anchors the fan so its curved edge stays facing up.
- Work (sc, ch 1, sc) in each of the last 3 dc.
(14 sc, 6 ch-1 sps, 1 anchor sl st) - Ch 2, then sl st into point B.
- Bead-ch 1. The bead now sits just below the fan.
Checkpoint: the charm measures 2 in (5.1 cm) wide × 1 in (2.5 cm) tall.
Part 3: Strands
There are three strand types. Number the 16 scallop points from left to right, with the RS facing you.
Strand order, positions 1–16: C A B C A B C A | A C B A C B A C
That gives 6 A strands, 4 B strands, and 6 C strands. The order is mirrored at the center.
| Type | Point B positions (from scallop point) | Beads to pre-string |
|---|---|---|
| A (3 charms) | 15, 30, 45 in (38.1, 76.2, 114.3 cm) | 6 |
| B (4 charms) | 12, 27, 42, 57 in (30.5, 68.6, 106.7, 144.8 cm) | 8 |
| C (5 charms) | 11, 24, 37, 50, 63 in (27.9, 61.0, 94.0, 127.0, 160.0 cm) | 10 |
Each strand uses 1 bead below each charm and 1 bead halfway between charms. One of those halfway beads sits between the header and the first charm.
– Total beads: 6×6 + 4×8 + 6×10 = 128 beads
– Total charms: 6×3 + 4×4 + 6×5 = 64 charms
To work each strand:
1. String that strand’s beads onto the teal yarn.
2. Join teal with a sl st in the ch-2 point. Leave a 6 in (15.2 cm) tail.
3. Chain, measuring the strand while it hangs straight.
4. When you reach a halfway mark, bead-ch 1.
5. When you reach a point B, work a Fan Charm.
6. After the last charm and its bead, ch 1. Fasten off and leave an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail for the tassel.
Part 4: Tassels
Make 16 tassels: 8 teal for the odd positions and 8 cream for the even positions. Each tassel uses about 3.7 m of yarn.
- Wrap yarn 20 times around the 3 in (7.6 cm) card.
- Tie the loops together at the top with a 6 in (15.2 cm) strand.
- Cut the loops at the bottom edge.
- Wrap the neck 0.5 in (1.3 cm) below the top.
- Trim the ends to 3 in (7.6 cm).
- Tie each tassel to its strand using the strand tail and the tassel’s tie.
Border
The border is worked on the top and side edges only. It uses the same gauge as the header, 4 sc per inch.
Border Row 1 (RS): Join teal at the bottom left corner.
– Left side: Work 11 sc up the side edge: 1 in each sc row-end (Rows 1–3 and 7), 2 in the Row 4 end, 3 in the Row 5 end, and 2 in the Row 6 end.
– Top: Work 3 sc in the first foundation ch, sc in each of the next 127 ch, then 3 sc in the last ch.
– Right side: Work 11 sc down the right side. Turn.
Counts: sides 11 each; top 133 (129 sts worked 1 each + 4 corner extras); total 155 sc.
Border Row 2 (rod tabs):
– Right side: Ch 1, sc in each of the 11 side sts.
– Top: Sc in the first 6 sts. [Ch 12, sk 4 sts, sc in the next 9 sts] 9 times. Ch 12, sk 4 sts, sc in the last 6 sts.
– Left side: Sc in each of the 11 side sts.
Counts: top 6 + 9×13 + 4 + 6 = 133 sts covered (93 sc + 10 ch-12 loops); total 115 sc.
Border Row 3 (tab reinforcement): Sl st in each of the 11 left-side sts. Across the top, sl st in each sc and work 12 sc in each ch-12 loop. Fasten off.
Counts: 93 sl st and 120 sc on the tabs.
Why the math works:
– The tabs are 13 sts apart, which is 3.25 in (8.3 cm).
– A ch-12 loop is 3 in (7.6 cm) long. The 12 sc cover it at the same gauge, so the tab lies flat and wraps a 0.75 in (1.9 cm) rod.
– On each side, 11 sc at 4 sc/in = 2.75 in (7.0 cm), which matches the header’s side depth.
– Two border rows add 0.5 in (1.3 cm) on each side, so the width becomes 32.25 + 1 = 33.25 in (84.5 cm).
Final Blocking
- Lay the header WS up on a blocking mat.
- Pin it to 33.25 in (84.5 cm) × 3.75 in (9.5 cm). Put a pin at each scallop point.
- Mist it until damp and let it dry fully.
- Hang the curtain from the rod.
- Mist the strands lightly and let the tassels pull them straight as they dry.
- While the yarn is damp, press each Fan Charm flat with your fingers, keeping the curved teal edge facing up.
- Re-check the strand lengths and the tassel trims.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- The header measures 33.25 in (84.5 cm) wide.
- There are 16 scallops, each 2 in (5.1 cm) wide, with no ruffling.
- All 10 tabs are evenly spaced and slide freely on the rod.
- The strands follow the order C A B C A B C A | A C B A C B A C.
- There are 64 charms in total, each anchored and facing up.
- All 128 beads are locked in their chains.
- There are 16 tassels, each 3 in (7.6 cm), alternating teal and cream.
- All ends are woven in.
Troubleshooting
- The header ruffles: Your shells are too loose. Go down a hook size for Rows 4–6.
- The header cups: Rows 1–3 are too tight. Loosen your tension or go up a hook size for those rows.
- A fan flips downward: You missed the anchor sl st in step 5 of the Fan Charm. Add it with a scrap of teal.
- The beads won’t slide: The bead holes are too small. Use beads with holes of at least 2.5 mm.
- The strands twist: Hang the curtain, mist it, and let it dry under the weight of the tassels.
- The tassels are uneven: Trim them all at once against the card’s edge.
Care
Hand wash in cool water and dry flat. Do not wring or hang the curtain wet, or the strands will stretch.

Final Notes
The measurements build on each other in this order:
– The sample sets the gauge: 4.25 in (10.8 cm).
– Row 1 is 32.25 in (81.9 cm) wide.
– The header is 2.75 in (7.0 cm) deep at the sides and 3.25 in (8.3 cm) at the points.
– The border brings it to 33.25 in (84.5 cm) × 3.75 in (9.5 cm).
– The strands measure 48, 60, and 66 in (121.9, 152.4, and 167.6 cm).
– The finished curtain is about 70 in (177.8 cm) long.
If you check each step before you move on, the curtain will fit your doorway.
Optional: for a wider doorway, add 8 stitches to the foundation for each extra scallop, and one strand for each.
Happy crocheting!
