These curtain panels turn a sunny window into a rose window. Golden mesh “glass” lets the light through, charcoal ridges trace every block like lead came, and layered burgundy and pink roses sit on top with sage green leaves.
The palette is warm and vintage: charcoal, golden mustard, burgundy, dusty rose and sage. The whole look comes from simple techniques: open dc mesh, single crochet frames and sewn-on appliqué.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. Each finished panel measures 28 in (71.1 cm) wide by 79 in (200.7 cm) long, and the pattern makes a matching pair.
Each panel is built from 27 square blocks worked in the round. The blocks are joined in a 3 x 9 grid with a raised slip stitch seam, and a five-round charcoal border finishes the edge. Roses and leaves are made separately and sewn on.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size (each panel): 28 x 79 in (71.1 x 200.7 cm)
- Skill level: Intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: DK (weight 3) cotton or cotton blend
- Hook: 4.0 mm (G-6)
- Number of pieces: 54 blocks (27 per panel), plus appliqué roses and leaves
- Layout: 3 blocks wide x 9 blocks tall per panel
- Block size: 8.5 in (21.6 cm) square

Materials
Use a smooth DK cotton or cotton blend. Cotton keeps the mesh crisp and the outlines sharp. Avoid drapey bamboo or rayon, which will stretch over this length. Amounts are for the pair and assume about 120 m per 50 g.
- Charcoal: 450 g (1080 m)
- Golden mustard: 400 g (960 m)
- Sage green: 100 g (240 m)
- Burgundy: 100 g (240 m)
- Dusty rose pink: 100 g (240 m)
Tools:
- 4.0 mm (G-6) hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Blocking mats, rustproof pins, spray bottle
- 16 curtain clip rings (8 per panel)
All quantities include a margin of roughly 15 to 20 percent for swatching and differences in tension.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- sp(s) – space(s)
- sk – skip
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- RS / WS – right side / wrong side
- BPsc – back post single crochet: insert the hook from back to front to back around the post of the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop and finish as a sc.
Mesh stitch count: in the block, each dc and each ch-1 sp counts as 1 stitch. Corner ch-2 sps are not counted.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge in mesh: 20 sts (dc and ch-1 sps) = 4 in (10.2 cm). Rounds 1–5 of the block measure 4 in (10.2 cm) square.
Make one complete block first and block it before you make the rest.
- After Rnd 4: 3.2 in (8.1 cm) square
- After Rnd 5: 4 in (10.2 cm) square
- After Rnd 10: 8 in (20.3 cm) square
- After Rnd 11: 8.5 in (21.6 cm) square
If your block is too big, go down one hook size. If it is too small, go up one size. An error of only 0.25 in (0.6 cm) per block grows to 2.25 in (5.7 cm) over 9 blocks.

Block (Make 54)
Every block uses the same mesh base. At each color change, fasten off and join the new color with a sl st in any corner ch-2 sp.
Rnd 1 (gold): Magic ring. Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2), [dc, ch 1, dc, ch 2] 3 times, dc, ch 1, sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-5. (8 dc, 4 ch-1 sps, 4 corner sps; 3 sts per side)
Rnd 2 (gold): Sl st in next ch-2 sp. Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2), dc in same sp, *[ch 1, dc in next dc] across to next corner, ch 1, (dc, ch 2, dc) in corner sp; rep from * 2 more times, [ch 1, dc in next dc] across, ch 1, sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-5. (7 sts per side, 28 sts total)
Rnd 3 (gold): Rep Rnd 2. (11 sts per side, 44 sts total)
Rnd 4 (charcoal): Rep Rnd 2. This round is the inner frame. (15 sts per side, 60 sts total)
Rnds 5–9 (gold): Rep Rnd 2. Each round has 4 more sts per side than the round before. (Rnd 5: 19 sts per side; Rnd 6: 23; Rnd 7: 27; Rnd 8: 31; Rnd 9: 35)
Rnd 10 (charcoal): Rep Rnd 2. (39 sts per side: 20 dc and 19 ch-1 sps; 156 sts total)
Rnd 11 (charcoal, trim round): Ch 1, 3 sc in corner sp, then sc in each dc and each ch-1 sp around, working 3 sc in each corner sp. Sl st to first sc. Count: 156 (1 per existing st) + 12 (3 per corner) = 168 sc. Each side has 43 sc, which includes the middle corner sc at both ends.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Leaf (Make 148)
Sage green: Ch 11.
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, 5 sc in last ch. Rnd 10 (charcoal): Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to first sc. (65 sc)
The medallion measures 6 in (15.2 cm) across.
Appliqué and Block Types
Sew each motif on with matching yarn through the back of its outermost petal round only, so the inner tiers stay raised.
- Block A (burgundy rose): Rose centered over Rnds 1–5, with 2 leaves below it, tips pointing to the lower corners.
- Block B (pink rose): Same as Block A, with a pink rose.
- Block C (lattice): 4 leaves with bases meeting at the center and tips pointing to the four corners.
- Block D (medallion): Medallion rose centered, with one leaf on each lower side.
Make All Pieces
Per panel: 8 Block A, 8 Block B, 10 Block C, 1 Block D. For the pair: 16 A, 16 B, 20 C, 2 D.
Layout for each panel, top to bottom:
Row 1: C D C
Row 2: A C B
Row 3: B C A
Row 4: A C B
Row 5: B C A
Row 6: A C B
Row 7: B C A
Row 8: A C B
Row 9: B C A
Lay out the second panel as a mirror image so the roses match across the window.
Joining
Use charcoal. Hold two blocks WS together with the Rnd 11 edges lined up. Sl st through both loops of both layers, matching corner sc to corner sc and then each sc one-to-one. That gives 43 sl sts per block seam, and the ridge stands up on the RS like lead came.
First join each row into a strip of 3 blocks, with 2 short seams per strip. Then join the 9 strips with 8 long seams of 129 sl sts each (3 x 43). Where blocks meet, go straight from one block’s corner sc into the next block’s corner sc without adding chains.
Keep the seam tension the same as your sc fabric. If you have to tug a seam to make it lie flat, go up one hook size for joining.
Checkpoint: the joined panel measures 25.5 x 76.5 in (64.8 x 194.3 cm).
Border
Border gauge: 5 sc and 4 rounds = 1 in (2.5 cm).
The starting count is 3 x 43 = 129 sts across the top and bottom and 9 x 43 = 387 sts down each long side. Both totals already include the panel corner sts.
Rnd 1: Join charcoal in a panel corner st. Ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in each of the 4 panel corner sts. Sl st to first sc. (131 sts on each short side, 389 on each long side; 1036 sc total)
Rnds 2–5: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner middle sc. Sl st to first sc. Each side has 2 more sts than in the round before.
- Rnd 2: 133 / 391 (1044 total)
- Rnd 3: 135 / 393 (1052 total)
- Rnd 4: 137 / 395 (1060 total)
- Rnd 5: 139 / 397 (1068 total)
Fasten off.
Why the math works: 129 sts across 25.5 in (64.8 cm) is about 5 sts per inch, which matches the border gauge, so the edge neither ruffles nor pulls in. The 2 extra sts per side in each round turn the corners. Five rounds add 1.25 in (3.2 cm) per side, bringing the panel to 28 x 79 in (71.1 x 200.7 cm).
Final Blocking
- Weave in all remaining ends along the charcoal seams.
- Mist the panel until it is damp. Don’t soak it, because wet cotton is heavy and stretches.
- Pin the panel to 28 in (71.1 cm) wide, working in sections and measuring at several points.
- Pin the long edges straight at 79 in (200.7 cm) without stretching the length.
- Open the mesh gently, lift the rose petals and shape the leaf points.
- Let the panel dry completely before you unpin it.
- Clip 8 rings evenly across the top border, about 4 in (10.2 cm) apart.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every block measured 8.5 in (21.6 cm) before joining
- Each block side has 43 sc
- Seams have matched corners and lie flat
- Joined panel measured 25.5 x 76.5 in (64.8 x 194.3 cm)
- Border Rnd 5 has 139 and 397 sts per side
- Both panels measure 28 x 79 in (71.1 x 200.7 cm)
- No appliqué stitches show on the RS
- All ends are woven in
Troubleshooting
Block is not square: check for a missed ch 1 at the start or end of a side. Recount the Rnd 10 sides (39 sts each).
Corners cup: loosen the ch-2 corner chains. Keep the counts the same.
Seams pucker: your join is too tight. Rework it with a larger hook.
Border ruffles: you skipped the 3-sc corners or added stitches. Recount each side.
Panel stretches when hung: rewet it, block it to 79 in (200.7 cm) again and dry it flat.
Roses flop: tack them through a few Rnd 3 sts as well.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent, roll in a towel to remove water and dry flat. Never hang the panels while wet.

Final Notes
Here is the measurement chain. Gauge is 20 sts = 4 in (10.2 cm). One block is 8.5 in (21.6 cm) with 43 sts per side. Nine rows of 3 blocks make 25.5 x 76.5 in (64.8 x 194.3 cm). Five border rounds bring each panel to 28 x 79 in (71.1 x 200.7 cm). If you check each step along the way, the pair will hang straight and glow in the light.
Happy crocheting!
