This smartwatch band is a slim cream strap with one column of small sage green diamonds down its center. You work it in tapestry single crochet, which makes a dense, firm, smooth fabric. The tiny pixel-like stitches keep the diamonds crisp.
The palette is soft and neutral: a warm cream background with muted sage green motifs. It looks good next to rose gold, silver, or gold watch cases, and it reads as calm and handmade rather than sporty.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished strap is 1.0 in (2.5 cm) wide and 9.1 in (23.1 cm) long. That fits wrists from about 5.5 in to 7.5 in (14.0 cm to 19.1 cm) around.
You crochet one long strap in short rows across the width and add a slip stitch edging all the way around. Then you attach it to two watch band connectors and a metal slide keeper. One end is sewn around a connector bar. The other end passes through the second connector, folds back, and is held by the slide keeper, so the fit adjusts.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: 1.0 in x 9.1 in (2.5 cm x 23.1 cm)
- Skill level: Intermediate (tapestry color changes)
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: Fingering / superfine (#1) cotton
- Hook: 2.25 mm (US B-1)
- Number of pieces: 1 strap
- Layout: Single strap, rows worked across the width, 8 diamonds in one centered column
- Piece size before border: 0.9 in x 9 in (2.3 cm x 22.9 cm), 9 sts x 99 rows
- Border depth: About 0.05 in (0.1 cm) on each edge
Materials
Use a smooth mercerized cotton in fingering weight. Cotton holds its shape, stretches very little on the wrist, and shows tapestry stitches clearly. Avoid fuzzy or very stretchy yarns. They blur the diamonds and let the strap grow with wear.
- Cream (main color, C): 12 g / 40 m
- Sage green (contrast color, G): 5 g / 15 m
These quantities include a margin of roughly 25 percent for swatching and weaving in ends.
Tools:
- 2.25 mm (US B-1) crochet hook
- 2 smartwatch band connectors (adapters) sized for your watch, each with a strap bar opening at least 1.0 in (2.5 cm) wide
- 1 metal rectangular slide keeper with an inner opening about 1.0 in (2.5 cm) wide and 0.25 in (0.6 cm) tall
- Tapestry needle
- Sewing needle and cream thread (optional, for a stronger seam)
- Stitch marker
- Ruler or tape measure
- Spray bottle and pins for blocking
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- C – cream
- G – sage green
- RS / WS – right side / wrong side
Tapestry single crochet (color change): Work the last sc before a color change until 2 loops remain on the hook. Drop the working color, yarn over with the new color, and pull through both loops. Lay the color you are not using along the top of the row and work the next sc stitches over it, so it stays hidden inside them.
Carry both colors through every row, including the all-cream rows. That keeps the whole strap the same thickness and firmness from end to end. A strap with thick diamond sections and thin cream sections would kink at every motif.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 10 sc and 11 rows = 1 in (2.5 cm) in tapestry sc with a carried strand.
Make a test swatch before you start the strap. Ch 10, work Row 1 below, and then work 10 more rows, including one diamond (Rows a–e) in the middle. The swatch should have 9 sts and 11 rows and measure 0.9 in (2.3 cm) wide by 1 in (2.5 cm) tall.
Checkpoints during the strap:
- After Row 11: 1 in (2.5 cm) long, 0.9 in (2.3 cm) wide
- After Row 55: 5 in (12.7 cm) long
- After Row 99: 9 in (22.9 cm) long
If your swatch is too big: Change to a 2.0 mm hook, or keep the carried strand a little snugger so it doesn’t loosen the stitches.
If your swatch is too small: Change to a 2.5 mm hook. A strap that is too narrow will slide sideways inside the connector bar.
Width matters more than length here. The finished strap has to pass through the connector bar without bunching. Hold your swatch against the bar before you go on.

Strap
Work flat in rows across the narrow width. Each row has 9 sc. The turning ch 1 doesn’t count as a stitch.
Diamond rows (used in every repeat). Each row is symmetrical, so it reads the same on RS and WS rows:
- Row a: 4 C, 1 G, 4 C (9 sts)
- Row b: 3 C, 3 G, 3 C (9 sts)
- Row c: 2 C, 5 G, 2 C (9 sts)
- Row d: 3 C, 3 G, 3 C (9 sts)
- Row e: 4 C, 1 G, 4 C (9 sts)
Each diamond is 5 sts wide and 5 rows tall, about 0.5 in x 0.45 in (1.3 cm x 1.1 cm). At its widest row there are 2 cream sts on each side.
Foundation: With C, ch 10.
Row 1 (RS): Lay G along the top of the chain. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, working over G, and sc in each remaining ch across. (9 sts)
Rows 2–6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across in C, carrying G inside. (9 sts per row)
Place a marker on the RS of Row 1. This is End A, the sewn end.
Rows 7–17 (Repeat 1):
- Rows 7–11: Work diamond Rows a–e, carrying the unused color throughout. (9 sts per row)
- Rows 12–17: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across in C, carrying G. (9 sts per row)
Checkpoint: after Row 11, the strap is 1 in (2.5 cm) long.
Rows 18–94: Repeat Rows 7–17 seven more times, for 8 repeats and 8 diamonds in total. Each repeat is 11 rows, so 8 repeats = 88 rows, and 6 + 88 = 94 rows.
Checkpoint: after Row 55, the strap is 5 in (12.7 cm) long.
Rows 95–99: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across in C, carrying G. (9 sts per row)
The tail end now has 11 cream rows (Rows 89–99). This is the section that folds back through the slide keeper.
Cut G, leaving a 4 in (10.2 cm) tail. Don’t cut C.
Strap total: 9 sts x 99 rows = 891 sts. Of these, 104 are green (13 green sts per diamond x 8 diamonds) and 787 are cream. The strap measures 0.9 in x 9 in (2.3 cm x 22.9 cm).
Tips for clean tapestry: After each color change, give the dropped strand a gentle tug so it lies flat inside the next stitches. Twist the two balls in opposite directions on alternate rows so they don’t tangle. Keep the carried strand slightly behind the stitch tops so green doesn’t peek through the cream.
To adjust the length: Add or remove a full 11-row repeat to change the length by 1 in (2.5 cm). Always keep the 6 cream rows at End A, because they are hidden inside the sewn fold.
Border
The border is a single round of slip stitches. It firms up the edges and gives the strap its neat, corded outline.
Border gauge: 11 sl st = 1 in (2.5 cm) along the long edges (one per row end). 10 sl st = 1 in (2.5 cm) across the short ends (one per stitch).
Round 1: With C still attached at the end of Row 99, ch 1 to turn the corner.
- Long side 1: Sl st in the end of each row down the side. (99 sl st)
- Ch 1 at the corner.
- Short end (foundation): Sl st in each foundation ch. (9 sl st)
- Ch 1 at the corner.
- Long side 2: Sl st in the end of each row back up. (99 sl st)
- Ch 1 at the corner.
- Short end (Row 99): Sl st in each st across. (9 sl st)
Join with a sl st to the first corner ch. Total: 99 + 9 + 99 + 9 = 216 sl st. The 4 corner ch are separate turning chains and aren’t counted in the side totals.
Why the math works: The strap has 99 rows, so one sl st per row end gives exactly 99 sl st on each long side, with no gaps or ruffling. Each short end has 9 sts, so it takes exactly 9 sl st. The ch 1 at each corner lets the edging turn without pulling the corner in.
Keep the slip stitches loose enough to lie flat. Tight slip stitches shorten the edges and make the strap curl.
Fasten off and weave in all ends along the edges, hiding them inside the stitches in their own color.
After border: 1.0 in x 9.1 in (2.5 cm x 23.1 cm).
Attaching the Hardware
- Thread on the slide keeper: Slide the metal keeper onto the strap from End B (the Row 99 end) and push it toward the middle.
- Sew End A: Pass End A (the foundation end) through the bar of connector 1 from front to back. Fold 0.5 in (1.3 cm) to the WS. Whipstitch the short edge to the strap through both layers. Then sew a second line across, just below the bar, so the connector can’t slide.
- Attach the connectors: Click connector 1 and connector 2 into the watch case.
- Fit on the wrist: Put the watch on. Pass End B through the bar of connector 2 from front to back, fold it back along the underside, and slide the keeper over both layers to hold the fold.
Leave at least 2 in (5.1 cm) of overlap under the keeper. With a watch case and connectors about 1.75 in (4.4 cm) long, the overlap is about 2.9 in (7.4 cm) on a 7.5 in (19.1 cm) wrist and about 4.9 in (12.4 cm) on a 5.5 in (14.0 cm) wrist.
The textured single crochet grips the keeper well, so the fold stays put during normal wear.
Final Blocking
- Block before you sew End A, or unclip the connectors and keeper first.
- Lightly mist the strap with water until it is damp, not soaked.
- Lay it flat, RS up, on a blocking mat or folded towel.
- Gently ease it to 1.0 in (2.5 cm) wide and 9.1 in (23.1 cm) long.
- Pin the corners and a few points along each long edge to keep the sides straight.
- Check that the diamonds sit in a straight column down the center.
- Let it dry completely, for at least 6 hours, before you unpin it.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every row has 9 sts. Count a few rows at random.
- There are 8 diamonds, each stepped 1-3-5-3-1 sts.
- No carried strands show through on the RS.
- The strap is 1.0 in (2.5 cm) wide along its full length.
- The strap measures 9.1 in (23.1 cm) after blocking.
- The edging has 99 sl st on each long side and 9 on each short end.
- End A is sewn securely with two lines of stitching.
- The strap passes through connector 2 and the keeper without bunching.
- All ends are woven in for at least 1 in (2.5 cm) and trimmed.
Troubleshooting
Green shows through the cream stitches: Hold the carried strand flat along the top of the row and slightly behind the work. Snug it gently after each row.
The diamonds look slanted: Single crochet naturally leans a little. Turn at the end of every row, and check that Rows a–e start with 4, 3, 2, 3, and 4 cream sts.
The strap curves like a banana: The carried yarn is tighter along one side. Stretch the strap gently every few rows, and block it straight.
The strap is too wide for the connector: Remake it with a 2.0 mm hook, or with a slightly thinner cotton, keeping 9 sts per row so the diamonds stay centered.
The edges look loose or wavy: Rework the border with tighter tension or a smaller hook. Don’t skip row ends, or the edges will pucker.
The keeper slides off: Add an 11-row repeat for more overlap, or sew a small cream loop across the tail end as a stopper.
Care
Remove the strap from the watch and hand wash it in cool water with mild soap. Press out the water with a towel and dry it flat, away from heat.

Final Notes
The measurement chain is simple: 10 sc and 11 rows = 1 in (2.5 cm). That gives 9 sts = 0.9 in (2.3 cm) of width and 99 rows = 9 in (22.9 cm) of length before the border. The slip stitch edging adds about 0.05 in (0.1 cm) to each edge, bringing the strap to 1.0 in x 9.1 in (2.5 cm x 23.1 cm).
Measure your swatch, then measure again at Rows 11, 55, and 99. If those numbers match, the band will fit both the hardware and your wrist.
Happy crocheting!
