The Blushing Bellflower Wall Hanging is a soft, romantic piece made of small crochet motifs on pearl strands. Burgundy bells with ruffled rims, light pink five-petal flowers with cream centers, and dusty rose four-leaf clusters hang from a natural twisted rope. Each strand ends in a fluffy pink tassel.
The palette has four yarn colors: burgundy, light pink, dusty rose, and cream. Ivory pearl beads add shine between the motifs. It works well in a sunny window, above a bed, or in a nursery.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished hanging is 20 in (50.8 cm) wide and about 24 in (61.0 cm) tall, measured from the rope to the tip of the longest tassel.
Construction is simple. You crochet 24 small pieces: 8 bells, 6 flowers, 4 leaf clusters, and 6 hanging tabs. Then you make 6 tassels, wrap the tabs around the rope, and thread the motifs and pearls onto 6 cords.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: 20 in (50.8 cm) wide x about 24 in (61.0 cm) tall
- Skill level: Easy to intermediate
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: DK (light #3) cotton
- Hook: 3.5 mm (E-4)
- Number of pieces: 24 crocheted pieces plus 6 tassels
- Layout: 6 strands hung from one rope, spaced 3 in (7.6 cm) apart
- Piece sizes: bell 2.25 in (5.7 cm) tall with a 2.5 in (6.4 cm) rim; flower 2.25 in (5.7 cm) across; leaf cluster 3 in (7.6 cm) tip to tip; tab 1 in (2.5 cm) x 2.75 in (7.0 cm)
- Bell size before border: 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall

Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge is 20 sc and 22 rounds = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc with a 3.5 mm hook. Small motifs are forgiving, but gauge still matters because all 8 bells should match.
Make one bell and one flower first and check:
- Bell after Round 3: flat crown about 1.1 in (2.8 cm) across
- Bell after Round 12: 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall
- Bell after the rim: 2.25 in (5.7 cm) tall, rim 2.5 in (6.4 cm) across
- Flower after Round 2: 1.25 in (3.2 cm) across
- Finished flower: 2.25 in (5.7 cm) across
If your pieces are too big, go down to a 3.25 mm hook. If they are too small or stiff, go up to a 3.75 mm hook. Do not change the stitch counts.

Bell (make 8, burgundy)
Work in continuous rounds without joining. Place a marker in the first stitch of each round.
Round 1: 6 sc in MR. (6 sts)
Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) 6 times. (18 sts)
This is the flat crown of the bell.
Rounds 4–6: Sc in each st around. (18 sts each round)
These rounds turn sharply downward and form the narrow upper body.
Round 7: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) 6 times. (24 sts)
Rounds 8–9: Sc in each st around. (24 sts each round)
Round 10: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) 6 times. (30 sts)
Round 11: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)
Round 12: (Sc in next 4 sts, inc) 6 times. (36 sts)
The gradual increases in Rounds 7, 10, and 12 give the bell its flare. Check that the bell is 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall. Don’t fasten off; go on to the Border section for the ruffled rim.
Flower (make 6)
Round 1 (cream): Ch 1, 10 sc in MR, sl st to first sc to join. (10 sts) Fasten off cream.
Round 2 (light pink): Join pink in any st. Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join. (20 sts)
Round 3 (petals): *Sl st in next st, (hdc, 2 dc) in next st, (2 dc, hdc) in next st, sl st in next st; repeat from * 4 more times. (5 petals)
Each repeat uses 4 sts of Round 2, and 4 x 5 = 20. Each petal has 6 sts (hdc, 4 dc, hdc) plus 2 sl sts, so the round has 30 petal sts + 10 sl sts = 40 sts. The paired sl sts make the deep notch between petals. Sl st to the first sl st and fasten off.
Center detail: With cream, add 5 small French knots in a ring around the magic ring. Weave in ends. Check that the flower is 2.25 in (5.7 cm) across.
Leaf Cluster (make 4, dusty rose)
Each cluster has 4 pointed leaves worked from one center point, forming an X shape.
Leaf 1: Ch 9.
– First side: sc in 2nd ch from hook (base), hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sc in last ch (tip end). (8 sts)
– Point: ch 2.
– Second side: rotate and work along the opposite side of the foundation. Sc in same last ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch at base. (8 sts)
– Sl st in the first sc of the leaf.
One leaf has 16 sts plus a ch-2 point. The foundation chain sits between the two halves and forms a raised center vein.
Leaves 2–4: *Ch 9 and repeat Leaf 1, ending with a sl st into the base of the leaf just made; repeat from * 2 more times.
Close the cluster: Sl st into the base of Leaf 1. Fasten off, leaving a 6 in (15.2 cm) tail. Use the tail to pull the 4 bases tight and even, then weave it in.
Check that each leaf is 1.5 in (3.8 cm) long and the cluster is 3 in (7.6 cm) from tip to opposite tip.
Hanging Tab (make 6, burgundy)
Foundation: Ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 2–15: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. (5 sts each row)
Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail. Check that the tab is 1 in (2.5 cm) wide x 2.75 in (7.0 cm) long.
Tassels (make 6, light pink)
- Wrap pink yarn 25 times around the 3.5 in (8.9 cm) cardboard.
- Slide a 10 in (25.4 cm) tie under the loops at the top and knot it tightly.
- Cut the loops at the bottom.
- Wrap another strand 4 times around the tassel 0.5 in (1.3 cm) below the top and knot it.
- Trim the ends to 3 in (7.6 cm).

Tassel Bell Bell Bell Bell Flower
Tassel Tassel Tassel Tassel Bell
Tassel
Totals: 8 bells, 6 flowers, 4 leaf clusters, and 6 tassels. Every strand ends with a bell and a tassel.
Joining
Tabs to rope: Mark 6 points on the rope 3 in (7.6 cm) apart, starting 2.5 in (6.4 cm) from each end. That gives 5 gaps x 3 in = 15 in (38.1 cm), plus 2.5 in x 2 = 5 in (12.7 cm), for 20 in (50.8 cm) in total.
- Fold a tab over the rope at one mark so the foundation chain meets Row 15 underneath.
- Whipstitch the 5 foundation sts to the 5 sts of Row 15, stitch to stitch.
- Before the last stitch, tie one end of a beading cord securely through the seam.
- Snug the tab so it grips the rope without puckering.
Stringing each strand: Work from the tab down. Between motifs, thread 4 small 6 mm pearls, one 10 mm pearl, and 4 more small pearls. Add or remove small pearls to match the drop length in the grid.
- Flower: Pass the cord up through the back of the magic ring and out through the center, so the flower faces out.
- Leaf cluster: Pass the cord through the center point where the 4 leaf bases meet.
- Bell: Pass the cord down through the center of the crown. Thread one 10 mm pearl inside the bell and tie a double knot under it; the pearl holds the bell up and acts as the clapper. Thread 2 small pearls below the rim.
Tassel: Tie the tassel’s top tie to the cord end with a double knot, add a drop of clear glue, and trim.
Tension advice: Keep the cord taut but not stretched. Motifs should hang straight without spinning.
Size checkpoint: Lay the hanging flat. It should be 20 in (50.8 cm) wide, and the longest strand should be 24 in (61.0 cm) from the rope to the tassel tip.
Border: Scalloped Bell Rim
The rim is worked in burgundy directly onto Round 12 of each bell.
Border gauge: One scallop repeat covers 4 sts of Round 12, about 0.8 in (2.0 cm) of the bell’s circumference. Each scallop is 0.5 in (1.3 cm) deep.
Round 13 (trim round): *Sk 1 st, scallop (5 dc) in next st, sk 1 st, sl st in next st; repeat from * 8 more times. The last sl st lands in the first st of the round. (9 scallops)
Count: 9 x 5 dc = 45 dc, plus 9 sl sts, gives 54 sts worked over the 36 sts of Round 12.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Why the math works: Round 12 has 36 sts, and each scallop repeat uses exactly 4 sts. 36 / 4 = 9, so all 9 scallops are the same and no stitches are left over. Working 5 dc into one stitch fans the edge outward and creates the soft ruffle.
Final Blocking
- Lightly spray each bell with water.
- Stuff the bell with fiberfill or a small foam ball to set the dome shape.
- Pull each scallop down and out so the rim flares to 2.5 in (6.4 cm).
- Pin the flowers flat at 2.25 in (5.7 cm), opening each petal.
- Pin the leaf clusters at 3 in (7.6 cm), pinching each tip to a point.
- Let everything dry fully, then remove the stuffing.
- Brush the tassels and trim them to 3 in (7.6 cm) if needed.
Block the motifs before stringing if you can. It’s easier than blocking them on the cord.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- All 8 bells are 2.25 in (5.7 cm) tall with 9 scallops.
- All 6 flowers have 5 even petals and a cream center.
- All 4 leaf clusters have 4 pointed leaves of equal length.
- The 6 tabs are 3 in (7.6 cm) apart and their seams face the back.
- Every strand ends with a bell and a tassel.
- All knots are double-tied and glued.
- All yarn ends are woven in.
Troubleshooting
Bell looks like a cone, not a bell: Rounds 4–6 are too loose. Work them with a hook one size smaller.
Rim curls up instead of flaring: Check that each scallop has 5 dc and skips 1 st on each side. Block with steam.
Flower cups: Round 2 is too tight. Work it with a hook 0.25 mm larger.
Leaves twist: Work the second side into the free loops of the foundation chain, then block flat.
Strands spin: Tighten the cord slightly and add one more 10 mm pearl above the tassel for weight.
Bell slides down the cord: Tie a larger knot under the clapper pearl.
Care
Dust gently with a soft brush or a hair dryer on the cool setting. Spot clean with a damp cloth if needed and dry flat. Don’t machine wash it, because of the pearls and cord.

Final Notes
The measurements build on each other:
- Gauge is 20 sc x 22 rounds = 4 in (10.2 cm).
- That gauge gives a bell body of 1.75 in (4.4 cm).
- The 9-scallop rim adds 0.5 in (1.3 cm), for a 2.25 in (5.7 cm) bell.
- Flowers measure 2.25 in (5.7 cm) and leaf clusters measure 3 in (7.6 cm).
- Six strands spaced 3 in (7.6 cm) apart fill a 20 in (50.8 cm) rope.
- The longest strand drops 24 in (61.0 cm).
Check one bell and one flower first, and the rest of the pieces will match.
Happy crocheting!
