This curtain turns a plain window into a cascade of hot pink flowers. Fourteen hanging strands drop from a scalloped header. Each strand alternates five-petal orchid flowers with small lacy diamonds and ends in a soft tassel.
Everything is worked in one bright fuchsia cotton. The texture gives the curtain its character: pointed petals, a frilled cup in each flower center, open diamonds and a row of lacy fans along the top. The look is light and airy, and light still comes through the window.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished curtain measures 49.2 in (125.0 cm) wide and 41.75 in (106.0 cm) long, including the header and tassels.
You make each strand from the top down. As you finish the last round of each motif, you join it to the cord above it. Then you crochet the header in rows, and its final row picks up the top of each strand. The tassels go on last.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: 49.2 in (125.0 cm) wide × 41.75 in (106.0 cm) long
- Skill level: Intermediate
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: DK (#3, light) cotton
- Hook: 3.5 mm (E-4)
- Number of pieces: 70 flowers, 70 diamonds, 14 tassels, 1 header
- Layout: 14 strands. Each strand has 5 flowers and 5 diamonds, alternating, with a flower on top.
- Piece size: each flower is 3 in (7.6 cm) across. Each diamond is 2 in (5.1 cm) per side and 2.75 in (7.0 cm) from point to point.
- Size before border: 14 strands, each 35 in (88.9 cm) from the top petal tip to the end of the last cord
- Border depth: the scalloped header is 2.75 in (7.0 cm) deep
Materials
Choose a smooth, mercerized DK cotton or cotton blend. It shows the stitches clearly, keeps the petal points sharp and hangs straight without stretching.
- Fuchsia (the only color): 300 g, about 720 m (787 yd), or six 50 g skeins of about 120 m each. The curtain uses about 565 m. The rest is extra.
Tools:
- 3.5 mm (E-4) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Stiff card, 3.25 in (8.3 cm) tall, for the tassels
- Scissors
- Blocking mats, rust-proof pins, spray bottle
- Thin tension rod or curtain clip rings
The yarn amounts include about 15% extra for swatching, tails and tassel trimming.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- sk – skip
- sp(s) – space(s)
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- BLO / FLO – back loop only / front loop only
- beg – beginning
Special technique – Cord Join: Wherever the pattern says Cord Join, work ch 1, put your hook into the last chain of the cord hanging above, sl st, then ch 1. This takes the place of a ch-2 tip and fills the same space, so the stitch counts stay the same.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Make one flower and one diamond before you start the curtain. Block them lightly and measure them.
- Flower after Rnd 1: 1 in (2.5 cm) across
- Finished flower: 3 in (7.6 cm) across, petal tip to petal tip
- Diamond after Rnd 1: 1.25 in (3.2 cm) across
- Finished diamond: 2 in (5.1 cm) per side
- Cord: 6 ch = 1 in (2.5 cm)
- Header swatch: 16 sc = 3.5 in (8.9 cm). 4 sc rows = 1 in (2.5 cm). 2 dc rows = 1 in (2.5 cm).
If your pieces are too big, change to a 3.25 mm hook. If they are too small, change to a 3.75 mm hook. Measure again after each change. Stitch gauge matters most in the header because it sets the space between the strands.

Flower Motif (make 70)
Rnd 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 14 dc in the ring, sl st to the top of the beg ch-3. Pull the ring almost closed so a small hole stays in the center. (15 dc)
Rnd 2 (cup, FLO): Ch 2 (does not count), work 2 hdc in the front loop of each st around, sl st to the first hdc. (30 hdc) The extra stitches make the frill stand up and curl into a cup.
Rnd 3 (BLO of Rnd 1): Fold the cup toward you. Sl st in the back loop of the first st of Rnd 1. Ch 5, sk the next 2 sts, sl st in the back loop of the next st. Repeat from * 4 times in all. Ch 5, sk the last 2 sts, sl st in the first sl st. (5 ch-5 loops)
Rnd 4 (petals): Sl st in the first ch-5 loop, ch 1. In each loop, work (sc, hdc, 2 dc, tr, ch 2, tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc). Sl st to the first sc. (50 sts and 5 ch-2 tips)
The join sits in the gap between petal 5 and petal 1. This is the bottom of the flower. Petal 3, directly opposite, is the top.
Joined version: On every flower except the first one in a strand, replace the ch 2 at the tip of petal 3 with a Cord Join to the cord above.
Cord below: Don’t cut the yarn after the join. Ch 6, then fasten off, leaving a 4 in (10.2 cm) tail.
Diamond Motif (make 70)
Rnd 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc in the ring, ch 3. Work 3 dc in the ring, ch 3. Repeat from * 3 times in all. Sl st to the top of the beg ch-3. (12 dc, 4 ch-3 sps)
Rnd 2: Sl st in the next 2 dc and into the ch-3 sp. Ch 1, work (sc, ch 3, sc) in the same sp. Ch 2, sk 1 dc, sc in the next dc, ch 2, sk 1 dc, work (sc, ch 3, sc) in the next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * 3 times in all. Ch 2, sk 1 dc, sc in the next dc, ch 2, sk the last dc, sl st to the first sc. (12 sc, 4 ch-3 corner sps, 8 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 3: Sl st in the first ch-3 sp, ch 1, work 2 sc in the same sp. Sk 1 sc, 2 sc in the ch-2 sp, sc in the middle sc, 2 sc in the next ch-2 sp, sk 1 sc, work (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in the next corner sp. Repeat from * 3 times in all. Sk 1 sc, 2 sc in the ch-2 sp, sc in the middle sc, 2 sc in the next ch-2 sp, sk 1 sc, work 2 sc in the beg corner sp, sl st to the first sc. (36 sc: 9 per side, plus 3 ch-2 corner tips)
The corner where you joined is the bottom point. The second full corner you worked is the top point.
Joined version: Every diamond is joined. In the top corner, work (2 sc, Cord Join, 2 sc) instead of (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc).
Cord below: Ch 6 from the join, then fasten off, leaving a 4 in (10.2 cm) tail.
Tassel (make 14)
Wrap the yarn 25 times around the 3.25 in (8.3 cm) card. Slide a 12 in (30.5 cm) strand under the wraps at the top and tie it tightly. Take the bundle off the card. Wrap a second strand 5 times around the bundle, 0.5 in (1.3 cm) below the top. Knot it and hide the ends inside the tassel. Cut the bottom loops and trim the tassel to 3 in (7.6 cm).
Make All Pieces
All pieces use the one fuchsia color.
- Flowers: 70 (5 per strand: 14 plain top flowers and 56 joined flowers)
- Diamonds: 70 (5 per strand, all joined)
- Tassels: 14
- Header: 1
Make each strand in order from top to bottom so every motif can join to the cord above it.
Layout grid (strands read left to right, top to bottom):
HEADER: 14 SCALLOPS, ONE STRAND PER SCALLOP
ROW 1: FLOWER x 14
ROW 2: DIAMOND x 14
ROW 3: FLOWER x 14
ROW 4: DIAMOND x 14
ROW 5: FLOWER x 14
ROW 6: DIAMOND x 14
ROW 7: FLOWER x 14
ROW 8: DIAMOND x 14
ROW 9: FLOWER x 14
ROW 10: DIAMOND x 14
ROW 11: TASSEL x 14
Joining
The motifs in each strand are joined one below the other with the Cord Join.
- Make Flower 1 with a plain ch-2 tip on petal 3. Make its 6-ch cord.
- Make Diamond 1. In its top corner, Cord Join to the last chain of Flower 1’s cord.
- Make Flower 2. At the tip of petal 3, Cord Join to Diamond 1’s cord.
- Keep alternating until Diamond 5 is joined and its cord is made.
Stitch-to-stitch logic: Each cord is 6 ch. The Cord Join (ch 1, sl st, ch 1) fills the same space as the ch 2 it replaces. Each flower keeps all 50 sts, and each diamond keeps all 36 sc.
Tension: Keep the cord chains the same size as the chains in your motifs. Tight cords make strands pucker, and loose cords make them sag. Before you join the next motif, check that the last one hangs with its right side facing forward.
Weave in each 4 in (10.2 cm) tail as soon as the next motif is joined.
Size checkpoint: One strand unit is 7 in (17.8 cm):
- flower, top tip to bottom: 2.25 in (5.7 cm)
- cord: 1 in (2.5 cm)
- diamond: 2.75 in (7.0 cm)
- cord: 1 in (2.5 cm)
Five units make 35 in (88.9 cm). Measure every strand. They should match within 0.25 in (0.6 cm).
Border: Scalloped Header
The header is the curtain’s only border. It runs along the top edge, and the sides and bottom stay open as free-hanging strands.
Border gauge: 16 sc = 3.5 in (8.9 cm). Each strand gets one 16-st repeat, so the strands hang 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart, center to center.
Ch 226.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, turn. (225 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st across, turn. (225 dc)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (225 sc)
Row 4 (mesh): Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), sk the next st, dc in the next st. Ch 1, sk the next st, dc in the next st. Repeat from * across, turn. (113 dc, 112 ch-1 sps)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp across, ending with a sc in the 3rd ch of the turning ch, turn. (225 sc)
Row 6 (fans): Ch 1, sc in the first st. Sk 7 sts. In the next st, work (tr, ch 1) 8 times, then 1 more tr. Sk 7 sts, sc in the next st. Repeat from * 14 times in all, turn. (14 fans of 9 tr and 8 ch-1 sps, plus 15 sc)
Row 7 (edging and strand joins): Ch 1, sc in the first sc. *Sc in the next tr, [2 sc in the next ch-1 sp, sc in the next tr] 3 times, 2 sc in the next ch-1 sp.
In the center tr, work: sc, ch 6, sl st in the ch-2 tip of the top flower of the next strand, sl st back up each of the 6 ch, sc in the same tr.
[2 sc in the next ch-1 sp, sc in the next tr] 4 times, sc in the next sc. Repeat from * 14 times in all. Fasten off. (379 sc: 1 + 14 × 27)*
Why the math works:
- 14 strands × 16 sts = 224 sts, plus 1 closing sc = 225. Nothing else is added.
- The mesh row needs an odd number of stitches: 113 dc + 112 sps = 225.
- Each fan uses exactly 16 sts (7 skipped + 1 fan st + 7 skipped + 1 sc), so 1 + 14 × 16 = 225.
- Each fan edge holds 26 sc, with 13 sc on each side of the cord. That means every strand hangs from the exact center of its scallop.
Header depth: Rows 1–5 measure 1.75 in (4.4 cm). Rows 6–7 add 1 in (2.5 cm), for a total of 2.75 in (7.0 cm). The header cord adds 1 in (2.5 cm) above each top flower.
Tie one tassel through the last chain of each bottom cord.
Final Blocking
- Lay the curtain flat on blocking mats, with the header straight along one edge.
- Pin the header to 49.2 in (125.0 cm) wide and 2.75 in (7.0 cm) deep. Pin each scallop point.
- Straighten each strand directly below its scallop. The strands should be 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart.
- Pin each flower to 3 in (7.6 cm) across, with one pin at each petal tip.
- Pin each diamond on point at 2 in (5.1 cm) per side.
- Pinch each cup center upward so it stands out from the petals.
- Spray until damp but not soaked. Let it dry completely.
- Unpin. Comb the tassels straight and trim them to 3 in (7.6 cm).
To hang the curtain, weave a thin tension rod through the Row 4 mesh spaces, over two and under two, or clip rings along Row 1.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- The header is 225 sts wide with 14 even scallops.
- Every strand hangs from the center tr of its fan.
- Each strand has 5 flowers and 5 diamonds, with a flower on top and a diamond at the bottom.
- Every strand measures 35 in (88.9 cm) before the header cord.
- Every flower has 5 pointed petals and a standing cup center.
- Every diamond has 9 sc per side and sharp points.
- No motif is twisted or facing backward.
- All tails are woven in, and all tassels are 3 in (7.6 cm).
- The total length is 41.75 in (106.0 cm).
Troubleshooting
Cup lies flat: Work Rnd 2 in front loops only, with 2 hdc in each st. Shape the cup upward while blocking.
Petals look round instead of pointed: Check the ch-2 tip and the single tr on each side of it. Pin the tips while the piece is damp.
Diamond curls: Rnd 3 is too tight. Go up one hook size for that round only.
Strands are different lengths: Count the cord chains. Every cord must be exactly 6 ch.
Header ripples: Your foundation chain is too loose. Redo it with a smaller hook, or block the header firmly.
Header is too short or too long: Check that 16 sc = 3.5 in (8.9 cm) and change your hook size. Don’t change the stitch count.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap. Roll the curtain in a towel to remove water, dry it flat, and re-pin any flowers or diamonds that have lost their shape.

Final Notes
Here is how the measurements build up:
- A flower is 3 in (7.6 cm) across, and a diamond is 2 in (5.1 cm) per side.
- One flower, one diamond and two 6-ch cords make a 7 in (17.8 cm) unit.
- Five units make a 35 in (88.9 cm) strand.
- Fourteen strands, each on one 16-st repeat of 3.5 in (8.9 cm), need a header of 225 sts that is 49.2 in (125.0 cm) wide.
- Add the 2.75 in (7.0 cm) header, the 1 in (2.5 cm) header cord and the 3 in (7.6 cm) tassel. The curtain hangs 41.75 in (106.0 cm) long.
Happy crocheting!
