This hanging curtain turns a plain doorway into a festive entrance. Ten cream cords drop from a brass rod, and each one carries two-layer poinsettia flowers, round crochet beads and glossy pearls.
Every flower has a deep cranberry-red back layer of eight pointed petals. A smaller cream layer of eight petals sits on top, and a cluster of pearls and gold seed beads fills the center. Between the flowers, red and cream crochet beads alternate with 10 mm pearls, so the strands shimmer whenever the door moves.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished curtain is 36 in (91.4 cm) wide on the rod and hangs 80 in (203.2 cm) from the rod to the lowest bead. Each flower measures 4.25 in (10.8 cm) from tip to tip.
You will make 50 flowers, 150 crochet beads and 10 cords. You thread the pearls onto the cord as you chain it. Then you sew the flowers and beads in place and hang each cord over the rod by its top loop.

Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sc2tog: single crochet 2 together
- dc2tog: double crochet 2 together
- dc4tog: double crochet 4 together
- st(s): stitch(es)
- BB: back bump of a chain
Special stitches
- dc4tog: (Yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 4 times. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on the hook.
- Picot tip: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.
- Bead chain: Slide one pre-strung pearl up against the hook, then ch 1 to lock it into that chain.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Make one complete flower first. It is your gauge swatch.
- Checkpoint 1: Red Rnds 1–3 measure 1.25 in (3.2 cm) across.
- Checkpoint 2: Each red petal measures 1.5 in (3.8 cm) from the edge of the disc to the picot tip.
- Checkpoint 3: The red layer measures 4.25 in (10.8 cm) tip to tip. The cream layer measures 2.75 in (7.0 cm) tip to tip.
- Checkpoint 4: The cord has 5 sts per 1 in (2.5 cm) after the slip-stitch pass.
If your flower is too big, go down 0.25 mm. If it is too small, go up 0.25 mm. Cord gauge matters most, because every bead position is counted in chains. If only the cord is off, change hooks for the cord alone.

Pattern: Red Back Layer (make 50)
Use red.
Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, sl st to first sc. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to first sc. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 7 more times, sl st to first sc. (24 sts)
Rnd 4 (petals): You work each petal in rows over 3 sts of Rnd 3. Start in the same st as the join.
Row 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, turn. (4 dc)
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in first dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn. (6 dc)
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in each dc across, turn. (6 dc)
Row 4: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog, turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: Ch 2, dc4tog. (1 st) Do not turn.
Tip: Work a picot tip. Work 2 sl sts in the side of each of Rows 5 to 1 (10 sl sts) to get back down to the disc. Sl st in the next unworked st of Rnd 3.
Repeat Rows 1–5, the tip and the side sl sts 7 more times. On the last petal, end with a sl st in the base of the first petal, then fasten off. (8 petals, 24 base sts used)
Because each Row 5 is a single dc4tog, the picot lands in the center of the petal and makes a sharp, even point. Leave a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail for sewing.
Pattern: Cream Front Layer (make 50)
Use cream.
Rnd 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, sl st to first sc. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to first sc. (16 sts) The center now measures 0.75 in (1.9 cm).
Rnd 3 (petals): Each petal uses 2 sts of Rnd 2.
Row 1: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st, 2 dc in next st, turn. (4 dc)
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each dc across, turn. (4 dc)
Row 3: Ch 2, dc4tog. (1 st) Do not turn.
Tip: Work a picot tip. Work 2 sl sts in the side of each of Rows 3 to 1 (6 sl sts), then sl st in the next unworked st of Rnd 2.
Repeat 7 more times, join to the base of the first petal, and fasten off. (8 petals, 16 base sts used)
Pattern: Crochet Beads
Red bead (make 100):
- Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc. (6)
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (12)
- Rnd 3: Sc around. (12) Stuff firmly.
- Rnd 4: Sc2tog 6 times. (6)
Thread the tail through the 6 sts, pull closed, and leave a 6 in (15.2 cm) tail. The bead measures 0.6 in (1.5 cm).
Cream bead (make 50):
- Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc. (6)
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (12)
- Rnd 3: Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st around. (18)
- Rnds 4–5: Sc around. (18)
- Rnd 6: Sc in next st, sc2tog around. (12) Stuff firmly.
- Rnd 7: Sc2tog 6 times. (6)
Close it the same way as the red bead. It measures 0.9 in (2.3 cm).
Assemble the Flowers
- Lay the cream layer on the red layer, with each cream petal pointing between two red petals.
- With the red tail, backstitch around Rnd 1 of the cream layer through both layers.
- Using sewing thread, sew one 6 mm pearl in the center. Add a ring of 6 more pearls around it, then a ring of 12 gold seed beads.
Make All Pieces
Totals by color
- Red: 50 back layers and 100 beads
- Cream: 50 front layers, 50 beads and 10 cords
- Strand A (strands 1, 3, 5, 7, 9): 5 flowers, 10 red beads, 5 cream beads, 10 pearls
- Strand B (strands 2, 4, 6, 8, 10): 5 flowers, 10 red beads, 5 cream beads, 11 pearls
That makes 5 × 10 + 5 × 11 = 105 pearls.
Cord (make 10):
- String the pearls onto the cream yarn: 10 for an A strand or 11 for a B strand.
- Ch 421, working a bead chain at each chain number listed below.
- Sl st in the BB of the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. (420 sl sts, 84 in / 213.4 cm)
Chs 1–20 form the top loop. After that, a point d inches below the rod falls at ch 20 + 5d.
- Strand A pearls: ch 75, 95, 155, 175, 235, 255, 315, 335, 395, 420
- Strand B pearls: ch 35, 55, 115, 135, 195, 215, 275, 295, 355, 375, 420

In centimeters, the Strand A flower centers are at 12.7, 53.3, 94.0, 134.6 and 175.3 cm. The Strand B flower centers are at 33.0, 73.7, 114.3, 154.9 and 195.6 cm.
Joining
Each piece is sewn to its cord, and the chain count is your ruler: every 5 sts equals 1 in (2.5 cm). Mark each position with a stitch marker before you sew.
Repeat from each flower center (m):
- Red bead at m + 4 in (10.2 cm)
- Pearl at m + 6 in (15.2 cm)
- Cream bead at m + 8 in (20.3 cm)
- Pearl at m + 10 in (25.4 cm)
- Red bead at m + 12 in (30.5 cm)
- Next flower at m + 16 in (40.6 cm)
Strand A: Put a red bead at 1 in (2.5 cm), then work the repeat starting from the flower at 5 in (12.7 cm). After the last flower at 69 in (175.3 cm), add a red bead at 73 in (185.4 cm), a pearl at 75 in (190.5 cm), a cream bead at 77 in (195.6 cm) and the drop pearl at 80 in (203.2 cm).
Strand B: Put a red bead at 1 in (2.5 cm), a pearl at 3 in (7.6 cm), a cream bead at 5 in (12.7 cm), a pearl at 7 in (17.8 cm) and a red bead at 9 in (22.9 cm). Then work the repeat starting from the flower at 13 in (33.0 cm). After the last flower at 77 in (195.6 cm), the drop pearl sits at 80 in (203.2 cm).
Attaching the flowers: Turn the flower so one red petal points straight up. Run the cord behind the flower through its center. With the red tail, whipstitch the cord to the back of Rnd 3 at four points. Then tack the cord behind the top and bottom petal tips.
Attaching the beads: Pass the tail through the bead’s center, around the cord and back through twice. Knot the tail inside the bead.
Tension: Sew snugly, but don’t pucker the cord. Keep it flat between markers. If you shorten the cord, every position below that point will shift.
Size checkpoint: Each strand should measure 80 in (203.2 cm) from ch 20 to the drop pearl. On neighboring strands, the flowers should sit 8 in (20.3 cm) apart vertically.
Border: Top Loops and Bottom Drops
This curtain has no fabric edge. Its border is the hanging finish at the top and bottom of each cord, worked at the cord gauge of 5 sts per 1 in (2.5 cm).
Top edge: Fold chs 1–20, which are 4 in (10.2 cm) long, over the rod. Sew ch 1 to ch 20 to make a 2 in (5.1 cm) loop with a 4 in (10.2 cm) circumference. That fits any rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) thick.
Space the loops 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart, starting 2.25 in (5.7 cm) from the left end of the rod. The math is 2.25 + (9 × 3.5) + 2.25 = 36 in (91.4 cm).
Bottom edge: The drop pearl at ch 420 finishes each strand. Knot the tail around it twice and bury the tail up the cord.
Why the math works: 421 ch = 1 turning ch + 20 loop sts + 400 drop sts. At 5 sts per inch, 400 ÷ 5 = 80 in (203.2 cm). The lowest Strand B petal tip is at 77 + 2.125 = 79.125 in (201.0 cm), so it clears the drop pearl.
Final Blocking
- Before assembly, soak each layer in cool water, then roll it in a towel to press out the water.
- Pin each red layer to 4.25 in (10.8 cm), with one pin at every picot tip. Pin each cream layer to 2.75 in (7.0 cm) the same way.
- Let the layers dry completely, about 12 hours.
- After assembly, hang the curtain and mist each cord lightly.
- Clip a clothespin to each drop pearl as a weight and let the cords dry straight overnight.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- All 50 flowers measure 4.25 in (10.8 cm) tip to tip.
- Each flower has 8 red petals and 8 cream petals, with the cream petals offset.
- Each center has 7 pearls and 12 gold seed beads.
- Each strand measures 80 in (203.2 cm) below the rod.
- Strands A and B alternate across the rod.
- Every bead is knotted, and no tails show.
Troubleshooting
- Petals curl forward: Your gauge is too tight. Go up 0.25 mm and block firmly.
- Picot tip leans sideways: Check that Row 5 is one dc4tog and not 2 sts.
- Pearls won’t slide onto the yarn: Use a big-eye beading needle, or pearls with 2 mm holes.
- Strands hang at different lengths: Recount the cord. It should have 421 ch and 420 sl sts.
- Flowers spin on the cord: Add tacks at the top and bottom petal tips.
Care
Spot clean with mild soap and cool water, then dry flat. Don’t machine wash, because the pearls and seed beads can crack.

Final Notes
The measurements build on each other:
- The 1.25 in (3.2 cm) red disc plus two 1.5 in (3.8 cm) petals makes a 4.25 in (10.8 cm) flower.
- The cord runs at 5 sts per 1 in (2.5 cm), so 400 sts make an 80 in (203.2 cm) drop.
- Ten strands spaced 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart fill a 36 in (91.4 cm) rod.
Check each stage as you go, and every flower will land where the grid says.
Happy crocheting!
