This hanging holder stores three spare rolls in a stack of soft sage-green baskets. A band of cream puff-stitch daisies circles each basket, and two slim straps link the tiers and loop over a wooden ring. It looks calm and handmade, and it fits well in a farmhouse or cottage-style bathroom.
The palette uses two colors: sage green for the baskets, straps, and flower centers, and cream for the petals. Each wall is worked in dense single crochet so the basket keeps its shape, and the puffy daisies stand out from the flat surface.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. Each basket is 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across the base and 4 in (10.2 cm) tall. The assembled holder hangs about 19.5 in (49.5 cm) from the bottom basket to the top of the ring loop.
Construction is simple. You crochet three baskets in joined rounds, make two long straps and 24 small daisies, then sew everything together. A two-round rim finishes the top edge of each basket.
Finished Size and Construction
- Basket size: 5.5 in (14.0 cm) base diameter × 4 in (10.2 cm) tall
- Overall hanging length: about 19.5 in (49.5 cm), not counting the ring
- Skill level: Easy–Intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4)
- Hook: 4.5 mm (US 7)
- Number of pieces: 3 baskets, 2 straps, 24 daisies, and 1 wooden ring
- Layout: 3 baskets stacked vertically, with 1 in (2.5 cm) gaps between them
- Basket wall before rim: 3.5 in (8.9 cm) tall
- Rim (border) depth: about 0.5 in (1.3 cm)
Materials
Choose a smooth worsted-weight cotton or cotton blend. Cotton holds its shape well and handles bathroom humidity. Acrylic also works, but the walls will be slightly softer.
- Sage green: 300 g (about 600 m)
- Cream: 60 g (about 120 m)
Quantities include a margin of about 20% for swatching and sewing.
Tools:
– 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook
– Wooden ring, 2 in (5.1 cm) across
– Tapestry needle
– 8 locking stitch markers
– Measuring tape
– Scissors
– Pins
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- BLO – back loop only
- rev sc – reverse single crochet (crab stitch)
- sp – space
Puff stitch (puff): Do the following 4 times: yarn over, insert the hook in the indicated stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop to 0.5 in (1.3 cm). You now have 9 loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all 9 loops, then ch 1 to close.
Reverse sc: Work from left to right (right-handed). Insert the hook into the next stitch to the right, pull up a loop, then yarn over and pull through both loops.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 16 sc × 18 rounds = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc worked in joined rounds.
Make one full basket before starting the others. Use it as your test piece, and check it against these stages:
- After Round 6 (36 sts): the base measures about 2.75 in (7.0 cm) across.
- After Round 12 (72 sts): the base measures 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across.
- After Round 20: the wall is about 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall.
- After Round 28: the wall is 3.5 in (8.9 cm) tall, and the circumference is 18 in (45.7 cm).
If the basket is too big, go down to a 4 mm hook. If it’s too small or stiff, go up to a 5 mm hook. Keep the stitch counts the same. The straps and flower placement depend on 72 stitches around and 18 wall-and-rim rounds.

Basket (Make 3)
Use sage green. Each round ends with a sl st into the first sc. The ch 1 at the start of a round doesn’t count as a stitch.
Base
Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 1, then work 6 sc in the ring. Join. (6 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join. (12 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 6 times. Join. (18 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 6 times. Join. (24 sts)
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 6 times. Join. (30 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * 6 times. Join. (36 sts)
Rounds 7–12: Keep increasing 6 sts per round, with 1 more plain sc before each increase in every round. Split the first repeat of every other round (for example, in Round 8 work sc 3, 2 sc in next, sc 2) so the increases don’t stack and the base stays round.
- Round 7: 42 sts
- Round 8: 48 sts
- Round 9: 54 sts
- Round 10: 60 sts
- Round 11: 66 sts
- Round 12: 72 sts
Checkpoint: the base lies flat and measures 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across.
Wall
Round 13 (turning round): Ch 1, sc BLO in each st around. Join. Count: 72 sts worked one in each existing stitch + 0 added = 72 sts. The unused front loops form a ridge, and the wall turns upward here.
Rounds 14–28: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (72 sts per round)
This gives 16 wall rounds (Rounds 13–28), for a height of 3.5 in (8.9 cm).
Place the markers: Mark st 1 and st 37 of Round 28. These are the strap centers, and they split the basket into a front half (sts 1–36) and a back half (sts 37–72), with 36 sts in each half.
Work the rim (see Border) before fastening off.
Daisy Motif (Make 24)
Round 1 (sage green): Make a magic ring. Ch 1, then work 8 sc in the ring. Join. (8 sts) Fasten off.
Round 2 (cream): Join cream in any sc. Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a stitch). Puff in the next st, ch 2; repeat from * 8 times. Sl st to the top of the first puff. (8 puffs, 8 ch-2 sps)
Fasten off and leave a 10 in (25.4 cm) cream tail for sewing.
Checkpoint: the flower is 1.5 in (3.8 cm) across, with a 0.5 in (1.3 cm) green center and eight petals about 0.5 in (1.3 cm) long.
Strap (Make 2)
Use sage green.
Foundation: Ch 85.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. (84 sts)
Rows 2–3: Ch 1, turn, then sc in each st across. (84 sts per row)
Fasten off. The strap is 21 in (53.3 cm) long and about 0.67 in (1.7 cm) wide.
Mark these sections along the strap, starting at the foundation end:
- Sts 1–16: bottom basket, 4 in (10.2 cm)
- Sts 17–20: gap, 1 in (2.5 cm)
- Sts 21–36: middle basket, 4 in (10.2 cm)
- Sts 37–40: gap, 1 in (2.5 cm)
- Sts 41–56: top basket, 4 in (10.2 cm)
- Sts 57–84: free end and ring loop, 7 in (17.8 cm)

Border (Rim of Each Basket)
Border gauge: same as the body, 4 sts per inch (2.5 cm). The rim keeps 18 in (45.7 cm) of circumference.
Border Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. Count: 72 sts worked one in each existing stitch + 0 added = 72 sts (36 front + 36 back).
Border Round 2: Ch 1, rev sc in each st around. Join. (72 sts: 36 front + 36 back)
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Why the math works: The rim has the same 72 sts as the wall, so it doesn’t flare or pull in. The 16 wall rounds plus 2 rim rounds make 18 rounds, which is 4 in (10.2 cm). That matches the 16 strap sts (4 in, or 10.2 cm) set aside for each basket.
Joining
Daisies first. Sew 8 daisies around each basket, centered on Round 21. Place the flower centers at:
- Front half: sts 6, 15, 23, and 32
- Back half: sts 42, 51, 59, and 68
Within each half, the gaps between the strap center, the flower centers, and the next strap center are 5, 9, 8, 9, and 5 sts, which adds up to 36. That leaves 1.25 in (3.2 cm) from each strap center to the nearest flower center, so the petals sit clear of the strap.
Use the cream tail to tack down the tip of each petal, then stitch once around the green center. Keep the petals puffy rather than flattened.
Straps next. Lay one basket on its side, with st 1 of the rim facing up.
- Center strap st 1 on the base ridge (Round 13), directly below the st 1 marker.
- Run the strap up over sts 72, 1, and 2 to the top of the rim. Strap sts 1–16 cover the 18 wall-and-rim rounds.
- Whipstitch each long edge of the strap to the wall with one stitch per basket round: 18 whipstitches per edge.
- Repeat at st 37 with the second strap.
Attach the middle basket to strap sts 21–36, and the top basket to sts 41–56, in the same way.
Tension: Pull each whipstitch just snug. If you pull too hard, the wall puckers; if you leave it too loose, the baskets tilt forward.
Ring loop: Pass the end of each strap over the wooden ring from front to back. Fold the last 6 sts (sts 79–84, 1.5 in or 3.8 cm) back against sts 73–78, and whipstitch them through both layers. Set the two straps side by side on the ring.
Size checkpoint: Hang the holder empty. It should measure about 19.5 in (49.5 cm) from the bottom basket to the top of the ring loop. The gaps between baskets should be 1 in (2.5 cm).
Final Blocking
- Lightly mist each basket with water.
- Stuff each basket with a toilet roll wrapped in a towel to shape the wall into a smooth cylinder.
- Press the bases flat by hand.
- Pin the straps straight while they dry.
- Leave everything to dry completely, about 24 hours.
- Fluff each daisy petal with your fingertips.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each basket has 72 sts in every wall and rim round.
- Each base measures 5.5 in (14.0 cm), and each basket is 4 in (10.2 cm) tall.
- Each basket has 8 daisies, evenly spaced and level on Round 21.
- The straps are centered on sts 1 and 37 and run straight up.
- The gaps between baskets are an even 1 in (2.5 cm).
- The ring loop is secure, and all ends are woven in.
- A standard roll, 4.5 in (11.4 cm) across, drops in easily.
Troubleshooting
- Base ruffles: Drop half a hook size, or check that you’re increasing only 6 sts per round.
- Base cups before Round 13: Your tension is too tight. Go up a hook size for the base.
- Wall slants outward: Make sure Round 13 is worked through the back loop only and that the count stays at 72.
- Roll is too tight: Check your gauge. At 15 sts per 4 in (10.2 cm), the basket gets roomier but keeps the same counts.
- Basket tips forward: Check that the straps sit exactly opposite each other, on sts 1 and 37.
- Petals look flat: Pull the puff loops to a full 0.5 in (1.3 cm), and tack down only the petal tips.
Care
Hand wash in cool water, press out the excess water, and dry the holder flat, reshaped around a roll. Don’t tumble dry.

Final Notes
Everything in this pattern depends on a short chain of measurements. A gauge of 16 sc to 4 in (10.2 cm) gives a 72-stitch base 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across. Sixteen wall rounds plus a two-round rim make a 4 in (10.2 cm) basket. Sixteen strap stitches cover exactly that height, and 4-stitch gaps make the 1 in (2.5 cm) spaces between tiers. Together, the three tiers hang about 19.5 in (49.5 cm). Check each step against its number and the holder will come together without guesswork.
Happy crocheting!
