Teal Lotus Mandala Wall Organizer Crochet Pattern

The Teal Lotus Mandala Wall Organizer is a round, flower-shaped wall hanging that holds your small tools. It has a puff-stitch center, two layers of pointed petals, and four soft pockets across the lower half. They are sized for yarn balls, scissors, and hooks.

The palette uses three cool shades: dark teal, turquoise, and mint. The center disc is dark teal. The inner petals have a turquoise puff core, a dark teal middle, and a mint edge. The outer petals reverse that, with a mint core, a turquoise middle, and a dark teal outline. The mint pockets stand out against the darker petals.

This pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished organizer measures about 13.5 in (34.3 cm) across, not counting the cord.

You crochet 1 center disc, 12 inner petals, 12 outer petals, 4 pockets, and 1 hanging cord. Then you sew them into one piece. The petals go behind the disc in two offset layers, and the pockets go on the front.

Materials

Choose a smooth, matte worsted cotton. Cotton keeps the petal points crisp, holds its shape on a wall, and shows the puffs clearly. The amounts below assume about 170 m per 100 g.

  • Color A, Dark Teal: 110 g (about 187 m)
  • Color B, Turquoise: 40 g (about 68 m)
  • Color C, Mint: 85 g (about 145 m)

Tools:

  • 5.0 mm (H-8) hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • 12 stitch markers
  • Rustproof pins
  • Blocking mat
  • Spray bottle
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

The quantities include a margin of about 15% for swatching, sewing tails, and differences in tension.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • BLO – back loop only
  • sp – space
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • rnd – round

Puff: (Yarn over, insert the hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop to 0.5 in / 1.3 cm) 3 times. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Each puff counts as 1 stitch.

Gauge and Checkpoints

Gauge: 14 sc × 16 rnds = 4 in (10.2 cm).

Make one outer petal first. It tests your gauge, color changes, and tip shaping all at once. It should measure 3.75 × 2.75 in (9.5 × 7.0 cm).

Disc checkpoints:

  • Rnd 1: 1.25 in (3.2 cm)
  • Rnd 3: 3.25 in (8.3 cm)
  • Rnd 5: 5.25 in (13.3 cm)
  • Rnd 7: 6.75 in (17.1 cm)

Petal checkpoints:

  • Rnd 1: 2 × 1 in (5.1 × 2.5 cm)
  • Rnd 2: 2.75 × 1.75 in (7.0 × 4.4 cm)
  • Rnd 3: 3.25 × 2.25 in (8.3 × 5.7 cm)
  • Rnd 4: 3.75 × 2.75 in (9.5 × 7.0 cm)

If your pieces are too big, switch to a 4.5 mm hook. If they are too small, switch to a 5.5 mm hook. Never change the stitch counts. The petal spacing depends on the disc having exactly 84 stitches.

      O I O I O I O
I = inner petal  O = outer petal  P = pocket

In the finished piece, the inner and outer petals alternate evenly all the way around, 12 of each.

Joining

Whipstitch every seam with matching yarn. Sew with the back of the work facing you.

Inner petals: Tuck each base 0.5 in (1.3 cm) under the disc, with the petal centered on a marker. Sew its 4 base sc to the back loops of Rnd 6, one petal stitch into one disc stitch.

Outer petals: Center each outer petal halfway between two inner petals, at st 4 or 5 of each 7-stitch section. Tuck the base 0.375 in (1.0 cm) behind the disc edge and sew the 4 base sc the same way. Then tack the outer petal to the two inner petals beside it with 2 small stitches, 1 in (2.5 cm) above its base.

Pockets: Working from the front, pin the pockets in a row with their rims 0.75 in (1.9 cm) below the center of the disc. Overlap neighboring pockets by 0.375 in (1.0 cm). Sew only the back layer of each pocket:

  • Both side folds
  • The base fold
  • The 12 back rim sl sts

Leave the front layer free so the pocket opens.

Cord: Sew the cord ends to the back of Rnd 6, 2 in (5.1 cm) apart, centered above the top inner petal.

Tension: Make the seams snug but not tight. If you pull too hard, the disc will pucker at the petal bases.

Checkpoint: The piece should be 13.5 in (34.3 cm) from tip to tip. The outer tips should reach 0.625 in (1.6 cm) beyond the inner tips, and the pocket row should be 12.5 in (31.8 cm) wide.

Border

The border is the outline round on each petal. It is mint on the inner petals and dark teal on the outer petals.

Border gauge: 4 sc per 1 in (2.5 cm) along the curved edge.

Rnd 3 (all petals): Join in the first st of side 1 and ch 1.

  • Side 1: sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st; repeat once (12 sc).
  • Tip: (sc, ch 2, sc) in the tip sp.
  • Side 2: 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 4 sts; repeat once (12 sc).
  • Base: 2 sc in each of the 2 base sts (4 sc).

Join. Count: 22 sts worked one-per-stitch + 4 side increases + 2 base increases + 2 tip sc = 30 sc + 1 ch-2 sp. That is 13 sc per side (12 + 1 tip sc) and 4 at the base. Fasten off the inner petals here.

Rnd 4 (outer petals only, Color A): Ch 1.

  • Side 1: sc in the same st and the next 5 sts, 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 6 (14 sc).
  • Tip: (sc, ch 2, sc) in the tip sp.
  • Side 2: sc in the next 6, 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 6 (14 sc).
  • Base: sc in each of the 4 base sts.

Join. Count: 30 sts worked one-per-stitch + 2 side increases + 2 tip sc = 34 sc + 1 ch-2 sp. That is 15 sc per side (14 + 1 tip sc) and 4 at the base. The tip sc is already part of each side count, so don’t count it twice.

Why the math works: At 4 sc per inch, 13 sc covers 3.25 in (8.3 cm), which is the length of an inner petal edge. Fifteen sc covers 3.75 in (9.5 cm), which is the length of an outer petal edge. The (sc, ch 2, sc) at each tip keeps the point sharp. The base stays at 4 sts in Rnd 4 so it matches the 4-stitch seam hidden behind the disc.

Final Blocking

  1. Weave in all the ends.
  2. Lay the organizer face up on the mat and mist it until damp.
  3. Pin the disc into a 6.75 in (17.1 cm) circle.
  4. Pin each outer tip 6.75 in (17.1 cm) from the center, so the piece is 13.5 in (34.3 cm) across.
  5. Pinch each tip into a point and smooth the sides of the petals.
  6. Stuff the pockets lightly so they dry rounded.
  7. Let it dry completely before you unpin it.

Final Quality-Control Checklist

  • Disc: 84 sc, 6.75 in (17.1 cm) across
  • Inner petals: 30 sc each, 3.25 in (8.3 cm) long
  • Outer petals: 34 sc each, 3.75 in (9.5 cm) long
  • Every petal core has 4 puffs
  • Petals alternate evenly, with no gaps
  • Pockets: 24 sts per round, 3.4 in (8.6 cm) wide, open freely
  • Piece hangs level
  • All ends hidden

Troubleshooting

The disc ruffles. Go down a hook size, and check that every repeat of Rnd 4 skips a stitch.

The disc cups. Use a larger hook for Rnds 5–7.

The petal tips are rounded. Work the tip stitches into the ch-2 sp itself, then block the tips firmly.

The petal edges are wavy. Recount the sides. They should have 13 or 15 sc.

The puffs look flat. Pull every loop up to the full 0.5 in (1.3 cm).

The pockets sag. Tack the center of each front rim to the back with one hidden stitch.

Care

Hand wash in cool water, then roll the piece in a towel to remove the water. Lay it flat to dry and reshape the petal tips while it’s damp.

Final Notes

Each measurement depends on the one before it:

  1. A gauge of 14 sc × 16 rnds = 4 in (10.2 cm) gives a 6.75 in (17.1 cm) disc with 84 stitches.
  2. Those 84 stitches divide into 12 sections of 7 for the petal positions.
  3. The petals grow from 2.75 in (7.0 cm) before the border to 3.25 in (8.3 cm) or 3.75 in (9.5 cm) after it.
  4. With the bases tucked behind the disc, the outer tips span 13.5 in (34.3 cm).
  5. Four 3.4 in (8.6 cm) pockets, overlapped by 0.375 in (1.0 cm), fill a 12.5 in (31.8 cm) row.

If every piece meets its checkpoint, the finished organizer will be the right size.

Happy crocheting!
