This hanging organizer has three rectangular baskets stacked one above the other. Each basket holds one standard toilet paper roll lying on its side. Two narrow straps on the back connect the baskets, and a short tab at the top wraps around a wooden ring, so the whole piece hangs from a single wall hook.
The colors are calm and coastal: a deep petrol teal background, a light silver-gray diamond lattice, and a solid gray rim on every basket. The lattice is made from long gray V-clusters that meet tip to tip, so the diamonds look raised and woven.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. Each basket is about 6.4 in (16.3 cm) wide, 4.8 in (12.2 cm) deep and 3.6 in (9.1 cm) tall. The assembled body is 13.2 in (33.5 cm) tall, or about 17 in (43.2 cm) including the tab and ring.
Each basket starts with a flat rectangular base worked in rows, followed by one edging round. The walls are worked up in joined rounds, with the gray lattice added tapestry style, and the gray rim is the basket’s border. Last, you crochet two straps and one tab and sew everything together.

Materials
Use a firm worsted-weight cotton or cotton blend. Cotton holds its shape, handles bathroom humidity well and shows the lattice crisply. Avoid splitty yarns, because the long lattice legs need a smooth strand.
- Petrol teal (Color A): 140 g, about 250 m
- Silver gray (Color B): 60 g, about 110 m
These quantities include a margin of about 15 percent for gauge variation and tails.
Tools:
- 4.0 mm (US G-6) hook
- Wooden ring, 2.75 in (7.0 cm) diameter
- Wall hook or knob
- 5 stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring tape and scissors
- Spray bottle and pins
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- BLO: back loop only
- st(s): stitch(es)
- rnd: round
- yo: yarn over
- rep: repeat
Special stitch: LV (long V-cluster). The next stitch of the current round is skipped, and the LV is worked in its place:
- Yo, insert the hook front to back into the st 3 rounds below and 3 sts before the skipped st. Pull up a loop to the working height, yo, pull through 2 loops.
- Yo, insert the hook into the st 3 rounds below and 3 sts after the skipped st. Pull up a loop to the working height, yo, pull through 2 loops.
- Yo, pull through all 3 loops.
The LV counts as 1 st, and its two legs form an upside-down V.
Tapestry color change: In lattice rounds, work the sc in Color A while carrying Color B inside the stitches. Change to B on the last yo of the sc before each LV. Work the LV in B, then change back to A on the LV’s final yo.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 18 sc and 20 rows/rnds = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc. That is 4.5 sts and 5 rows per inch. A firm gauge keeps the walls upright.
Make one complete basket and check it before you make the other two. Measure at each stage:
- After base Row 22: 6.0 in (15.2 cm) x 4.4 in (11.2 cm)
- After Rnd 1: 6.4 in (16.3 cm) x 4.8 in (12.2 cm), 102 sts
- After Rnd 16: walls 3.0 in (7.6 cm) tall from the base fold
- After Rnd 19: walls 3.6 in (9.1 cm) tall
If the base is too big, go down a hook size; if it’s too small, go up one. If the width is right but the walls grow too tall, tighten your yarn before each yo instead of changing hooks. A roll 4.25 in (10.8 cm) across and 4.5 in (11.4 cm) long should fit with a little room.

Basket (make 3)
Base
With Color A, ch 28.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (27 sts)
Rows 2–22: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (27 sts)
Do not fasten off. Checkpoint: 6.0 in (15.2 cm) x 4.4 in (11.2 cm).
Edging Round
Rnd 1: Ch 1, turn.
– Across Row 22: 3 sc in first st, sc in next 25 sts, 3 sc in last st.
– Down the row ends: 20 sc spaced evenly over the 22 rows (skip about 1 row end in every 11).
– Across the foundation chain: 3 sc in first ch, sc in next 25 ch, 3 sc in last ch.
– Up the row ends: 20 sc spaced evenly.
Join with a sl st to the first sc. (31 + 20 + 31 + 20 = 102 sts)
Place a marker in the middle sc of each 3-sc corner group. Each long side now has 29 sts and each short side has 24 sts, and each count includes that side’s 2 marked corner sts. Because the 4 corners are shared between sides, 2 x 29 + 2 x 24 − 4 = 102. Mark one long side with a fifth marker; this is the back.
Walls
Join each round with a sl st to the first sc. The ch 1 at the start of a round doesn’t count as a st. Do not turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO of each st around. (102 sts) This round turns the walls up.
Rnds 3–4: Ch 1, sc in each st around. (102 sts)
Join Color B at the start of Rnd 5 and carry it through the round.
Rnd 5 (Lattice A): Ch 1, *sc in next 5 sts, LV; rep from * 17 times. (85 sc + 17 LV = 102 sts) The LV legs land in Rnd 2.
Rnds 6–7: Ch 1, with A only, sc in each st around. Leave B hanging inside the basket. (102 sts)
Rnd 8 (Lattice B): Pick up B and carry it. Ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, LV, *sc in next 5 sts, LV; rep from * 16 times, sc in next 3 sts. (85 sc + 17 LV = 102 sts)
Each LV leg in Rnd 8 lands in the top of an LV from Rnd 5. Because the tips of each lattice round are offset 3 sts from the tips below, every junction becomes an X and the diamonds close.
Rnds 9–10: Rep Rnds 6–7. (102 sts)
Rnd 11: Rep Rnd 5; the legs land in the Rnd 8 LVs. (102 sts)
Rnds 12–13: Rep Rnds 6–7. (102 sts)
Rnd 14: Rep Rnd 8. (102 sts)
Rnds 15–16: Rep Rnds 6–7. (102 sts)
Fasten off A. Checkpoint: the walls are 3.0 in (7.6 cm) tall (15 rounds at 5 rounds per inch). Now work the Border on this basket before moving on.
Make All Pieces
Baskets: Make 3, including the rim on each. Each basket uses about 45 g of Color A and 20 g of Color B.
Straps (make 2, Color A): Ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (5 sts)
Rows 2–66: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (5 sts)
Each strap measures 1.1 in (2.8 cm) x 13.2 in (33.5 cm).
Hanging tab (make 1, Color A): Ch 8.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (7 sts)
Rows 2–30: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (7 sts)
The tab measures 1.6 in (4.1 cm) x 6.0 in (15.2 cm).

Joining
Strap placement: Number the 29 back sts from one corner marker to the other. Strap 1 covers back sts 5–9 and Strap 2 covers sts 21–25. Each strap’s center is 8 sts from the center st (st 15), so the straps sit symmetrically.
Stitch-to-stitch logic: Strap rows and wall rounds have the same gauge (5 per inch), so sew 1 strap row to 1 wall round. Each basket wall has 18 rounds (Rnds 2–19).
- Strap Rows 1–18: bottom basket, Rnds 2–19
- Strap Rows 19–24: open gap, 1.2 in (3.0 cm)
- Strap Rows 25–42: middle basket, Rnds 2–19
- Strap Rows 43–48: open gap, 1.2 in (3.0 cm)
- Strap Rows 49–66: top basket, Rnds 2–19
The rows add up: 18 + 6 + 18 + 6 + 18 = 66.
Method: Pin each strap to the outside of the back walls. With Color A, whipstitch both long edges, catching 1 strap row end and 1 wall st with each stitch. Also sew across the strap’s first and last rows.
Tension: Keep the stitches snug but not tight. If the seam puckers, the strap shortens and the gaps close up.
Hanging tab: Fold the tab over the ring so each layer has 15 rows. Slip the back wall of the top basket between the two layers, with one layer inside the basket and one outside. Center the tab over back sts 12–18. Rows 1–10 of each layer overlap Rnds 10–19, and Rows 11–15 rise 1 in (2.5 cm) above the rim. Sew through all three layers around the overlap.
Size checkpoint: The body should measure 6.4 in (16.3 cm) wide and 13.2 in (33.5 cm) from the base of the bottom basket to the rim of the top basket.
Border (Gray Rim)
Work the rim on each basket right after Rnd 16. Its gauge matches the body: 4.5 sts and 5 rounds per inch.
Join Color B with a sl st in the first st.
Rnd 17: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (102 sts: 29 per long side and 24 per short side, each count including its 2 corner sts)
Rnd 18: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (102 sts; 29 / 24 / 29 / 24)
Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Finish with an invisible join. (102 sts; 29 / 24 / 29 / 24)
Why the math works: The rim has no increases or decreases. Each round puts 1 st in each st, so the rim keeps the walls’ 22.7 in (57.7 cm) circumference (102 ÷ 4.5). The side counts stay at 29 and 24, the corners stay in line with the markers, and the rim neither flares nor pulls in. Three rounds at 5 per inch add 0.6 in (1.5 cm), which brings the walls to 3.6 in (9.1 cm).
Final Blocking
- Weave in all ends on the inside, running them through Color A stitches.
- Spritz each basket until it’s damp but not wet.
- Put a small box or a wrapped roll inside each basket to square the walls.
- Pinch along each corner marker line to sharpen the corners.
- Pin the straps straight, keeping both gaps at 1.2 in (3.0 cm).
- Let everything dry completely, then take out the forms and hang the organizer.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every round from Rnd 1 to Rnd 19 has 102 sts.
- Each base measures 6.0 in (15.2 cm) x 4.4 in (11.2 cm).
- The lattice diamonds are closed, and each X junction lines up.
- Each rim is 3 gray rounds, 0.6 in (1.5 cm) deep.
- The straps sit on back sts 5–9 and 21–25.
- Both gaps measure 1.2 in (3.0 cm).
- The tab is centered and the organizer hangs level.
- No carried gray yarn shows on the outside.
Troubleshooting
The lattice puckers. The LV legs are too short. Pull each loop up to the full height of the current round.
Gray shows through the teal. Keep the carried strand toward the back of each stitch, and tension Color A a little more firmly.
The diamonds don’t close. Check Rnds 5 and 8. The tips must be offset by exactly 3 sts.
The walls slouch. Your gauge is too loose. Go down a hook size, or block the basket over a firm box.
The roll won’t fit. Add 3 ch to the foundation chain to make the basket 0.7 in (1.8 cm) wider. This adds 3 sts to each long side, so every round gets 6 more sts (108 sts). That’s still a multiple of 6, so the lattice works out to 18 repeats.
The organizer tilts. The straps are uneven. Re-sew them so the row numbers line up with the rounds as listed.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, reshape over a box and dry flat. Don’t put it in the dryer, which can shrink cotton.

Final Notes
Here is the measurement chain. A gauge of 4.5 sts and 5 rows per inch gives a 6.0 in (15.2 cm) x 4.4 in (11.2 cm) base. The edging round brings it to 102 sts and 6.4 in (16.3 cm) x 4.8 in (12.2 cm). Fifteen wall rounds add 3.0 in (7.6 cm), and the gray rim adds 0.6 in (1.5 cm), for a basket 3.6 in (9.1 cm) tall. Three baskets plus two 1.2 in (3.0 cm) gaps equal the 66-row straps at 13.2 in (33.5 cm). If your first basket matches every checkpoint, the other two will as well.
Happy crocheting!
