This hanging holder stacks three round turquoise baskets on two sturdy crocheted straps that meet at a wooden ring. Each basket holds one standard toilet roll. It has a solid base, a short solid wall, an open lattice of chain loops, and a sunny yellow scalloped rim.
A white daisy with an orange center and two green leaves decorates the front of every basket. The colors are bright, and the openwork keeps the piece light.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. Each basket measures 5.25 in (13.3 cm) across the base and 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall. The holder hangs about 23.5 in (59.7 cm) long from the top of the ring to the bottom of the lowest basket.
You work each basket in joined rounds from the center of the base upward, switch to a chain-loop net, then add a two-round yellow border. Next you make two flat straps, fold them over the ring, and sew the baskets to them. Finally, you sew on the leaves and daisies.

Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 16 sc x 18 rnds = 4 in (10.2 cm) in sc worked in the round.
Make one complete basket before anything else. It acts as your real gauge swatch, and every strap length depends on it.
Checkpoints:
- After Rnd 6 (36 sts): base about 2.9 in (7.4 cm) across.
- After Rnd 11 (66 sts): base 5.25 in (13.3 cm) across, circumference 16.5 in (41.9 cm).
- After Rnd 15: solid wall 0.9 in (2.3 cm) tall.
- After Rnd 20: wall 2.8 in (7.1 cm) tall.
- After Rnd 21: wall 3 in (7.6 cm) tall.
- After the border: basket 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall.
Too big? Switch to a 4.0 mm (US 6) hook. Too small? Switch to a 5.0 mm (US 8) hook. A standard roll is about 4.5 in (11.4 cm) wide and should drop into the basket with a little room to spare.

Basket (Make 3)
Work in joined rounds. Join each round with a sl st to the first sc, then ch 1. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch. The increases are staggered so the base stays round instead of turning hexagonal.
Base
With turquoise:
- Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc in ring, join. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: Sc in next st, inc 6 times. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: Sc in next 2 sts, inc 6 times. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: Sc in next st, inc, sc in next 3 sts, inc 5 times, sc in next 2 sts. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: Sc in next 4 sts, inc 6 times. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7: Sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc 5 times, sc in next 3 sts. (42 sts)
- Rnd 8: Sc in next 6 sts, inc 6 times. (48 sts)
- Rnd 9: Sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 7 sts, inc 5 times, sc in next 4 sts. (54 sts)
- Rnd 10: Sc in next 8 sts, inc 6 times. (60 sts)
- Rnd 11: Sc in next 4 sts, inc, sc in next 9 sts, inc 5 times, sc in next 5 sts. (66 sts)
Check: the base lies flat and measures 5.25 in (13.3 cm) across.
Solid Wall
- Rnd 12: Sc in BLO of each st around. (66 sts) This makes a crisp fold line where the base turns up into the wall.
- Rnds 13–15: Sc in each st around. (66 sts)
Check: the solid wall is 0.9 in (2.3 cm) tall.
Lattice Net
The net is made of ch-5 loops anchored by sc. Each round ends with ch 2 and a dc, which leaves the hook in the middle of the last loop, ready for the next round.
- Rnd 16: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 5, sk 2 sts, sc in next st 21 times, ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in first sc. (22 loops)
- Rnds 17–19: Ch 1, sc around the post of the dc just made, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 loop 21 times, ch 2, dc in first sc. (22 loops)
- Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc around the post of the dc just made, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 loop 21 times, ch 5, join with sl st to first sc. (22 loops)
Check: the wall is now 2.8 in (7.1 cm) tall. The loops will look loose until the next round firms them up.
Top Round (Conversion)
- Rnd 21: Sl st into the first ch-5 loop, ch 1, work 3 sc in each ch-5 loop around, join. (22 loops x 3 sc = 66 sts)
This round brings the count back to 66, matching the base exactly. Fasten off turquoise.
Check: the basket is 3 in (7.6 cm) tall.
Border
Border gauge: one scallop repeat uses 6 sts, which is 1.5 in (3.8 cm) at 4 sts per inch.
With yellow:
- Border Rnd 1: Join yellow with a sl st in any st of Rnd 21, ch 1, sc in each st around, join. (66 sts)
- Border Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, sk 2 sts, Scallop in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st 10 times, sk 2 sts, Scallop in next st, sk 2 sts, join with sl st to first sc. (11 scallops; 11 x 5 dc + 11 sc = 66 sts)
Why the math works: each repeat uses exactly 6 sts: 1 sc, 2 skipped, 1 scallop base and 2 skipped. 66 ÷ 6 = 11 repeats, with no stitches left over. Eleven repeats x 1.5 in (3.8 cm) = 16.5 in (41.9 cm), which equals the rim circumference, so the border lies flat without ruffling or pulling in.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. The border adds 0.75 in (1.9 cm), so each basket is 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall.
Straps (Make 2)
With turquoise:
- Row 1: Ch 93, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (92 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sl st in each st across. (92 sts)
The sl st row firms up the strap, gives it a rope-like ridge, and limits stretching. Each strap is 23 in (58.4 cm) long and about 0.4 in (1.0 cm) wide. Fasten off, leaving a 24 in (61.0 cm) tail for sewing.
Daisy (Make 3)
Center: With orange, MR, 8 sc in ring, join. (8 sts) Fasten off.
Petals: Join white with a sl st in any sc of the center. Ch 5, then starting in 2nd ch from hook work sc, hdc, dc, hdc (4 sts), sl st in the same center sc, sl st in next center sc 8 times, working the last sl st into the first sc. (8 petals)
Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail. The daisy is about 2.25 in (5.7 cm) across.
Leaf (Make 6)
With green, ch 7.
- Side 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook: sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc. (6 sts)
- Tip: Ch 2.
- Side 2: Working along the opposite side of the foundation chain: sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc, then sl st in first sc. (6 sts)
Each leaf has 12 sts plus the ch-2 tip and is about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) long. Fasten off, leaving a 10 in (25.4 cm) tail.
Make All Pieces
- Turquoise: 3 basket bodies, 2 straps
- Yellow: 3 borders
- Orange: 3 daisy centers
- White: 3 petal rounds
- Green: 6 leaves
Layout (front view):
( RING )
|| strap tab, 1 in (2.5 cm)
/ | V straps, 6 in (15.2 cm)
| [ BASKET 1 ] | 3.75 in (9.5 cm)
| | gap, 1.5 in (3.8 cm)
| [ BASKET 2 ] | 3.75 in (9.5 cm)
| | gap, 1.5 in (3.8 cm)
| [ BASKET 3 ] | 3.75 in (9.5 cm)
Joining
Method: Using turquoise yarn and a tapestry needle, whipstitch each strap to the outside of the baskets.
Strap budget: at 4 strap sts per inch, each strap’s 92 sts divide exactly:
- 8 sts (2 in / 5.1 cm) folded over the ring
- 24 sts (6 in / 15.2 cm) for the V
- 15 sts (3.75 in / 9.5 cm) along Basket 1
- 6 sts (1.5 in / 3.8 cm) gap
- 15 sts (3.75 in / 9.5 cm) along Basket 2
- 6 sts (1.5 in / 3.8 cm) gap
- 15 sts (3.75 in / 9.5 cm) along Basket 3
- 3 sts (0.75 in / 1.9 cm) tucked under the base
Total: 8 + 24 + 15 + 6 + 15 + 6 + 15 + 3 = 92 sts, or 23 in (58.4 cm).
Steps:
- On each basket, mark st 1 and st 34 of Rnd 21. These two stitches are exactly opposite each other, with 33 sts on each side. Line st 1 up with the round joins so the strap hides the seam.
- On each strap, place markers at sts 8, 32, 47, 53, 68 and 74.
- Pass the first 8 sts of both straps through the ring together. Fold them down and sew them flat to form a 1 in (2.5 cm) doubled tab.
- Sew sts 33–47 of each strap to Basket 1, one strap at each marked stitch. Run each strap straight down the wall, from the top of the scallop to the Rnd 12 fold line.
- Leave 6 strap sts free, then sew sts 54–68 to Basket 2. Leave 6 more sts free, then sew sts 75–89 to Basket 3.
- Fold the last 3 sts under the base of Basket 3 and sew them down.
Tension advice: catch one basket round per strap stitch. Keep your stitches snug but not puckered. In the net, sew through the sc anchors, not just the chain loops, so the solid stitches carry the weight.
Size checkpoint: hang the holder. The gaps should be 1.5 in (3.8 cm) and the total length about 23.5 in (59.7 cm). If one side hangs lower, re-sew that strap until the baskets sit level.
Appliqués
- Find the front center of each basket: st 17 of Rnd 21, halfway between the straps.
- Sew two leaves to the lower front with the tips pointing out to the left and right and the bases meeting at the center line. Anchor them into Rnd 15 and the lower net.
- Center the daisy over the leaf bases so it overlaps the solid wall and the first net rounds. Sew around the orange center, then tack down each petal tip.
Final Blocking
- Weave in all remaining ends.
- Mist each basket lightly until damp.
- Slide a roll or a rolled towel into each basket to hold its shape.
- Ease the scallops outward so they sit evenly.
- If the daisy petals curl, pin them flat.
- Hang the holder so the straps dry straight.
- Let it dry completely, 12 to 24 hours.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each base is 5.25 in (13.3 cm) across and lies flat.
- Rnd 21 has 66 sts, and the border has 11 even scallops.
- Each basket is 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall.
- The straps are 23 in (58.4 cm) long and sit directly opposite each other.
- The gaps between baskets are 1.5 in (3.8 cm).
- All daisies sit at the same height and face forward.
- The holder hangs level and is about 23.5 in (59.7 cm) long.
Troubleshooting
- Base cups: the increases are too tight. Go up a hook size for the base.
- Base ruffles: the tension is too loose. Go down a hook size.
- Border ruffles or pulls in: recount Rnd 21 and Border Rnd 1. Both must have 66 sts.
- Basket tilts when full: the straps aren’t opposite each other. Check the st 1 and st 34 placement.
- Straps stretch over time: add a second sl st row or use a firmer cotton.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, reshape, and dry flat or hanging. Remove the wooden ring first if it shouldn’t get wet.

Final Notes
The measurement chain is simple. A 66-stitch base gives a 5.25 in (13.3 cm) diameter and a 16.5 in (41.9 cm) rim. The wall grows to 3 in (7.6 cm), and the 11-scallop border adds 0.75 in (1.9 cm), for a 3.75 in (9.5 cm) basket. Two 92-stitch straps, each 23 in (58.4 cm) long, hold three baskets 1.5 in (3.8 cm) apart, for a total length of about 23.5 in (59.7 cm). Check each link in that chain and the finished holder will hang straight and true.
Happy crocheting!
