This curtain is made of long crochet strands. Each strand is a row of pointed eye-shaped openings joined at narrow waists, and each one ends in a soft tassel. When you hang the strands side by side, they make an airy lattice that filters light without blocking it.
The palette is dusty blush pink and warm taupe, alternated strand by strand. The look is boho and calm, and it suits a bedroom, a doorway, or a sunny window.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. Each strand measures about 2.25 in (5.7 cm) wide at the eyes. The crocheted body is about 73 in (185.4 cm) long, and the total length from the top of the hanging loop to the tip of the tassel is about 82.75 in (210.2 cm).
Each strand is built in four simple stages. First you make a foundation chain. A return row then turns that chain into paired arcs. One round of double crochet makes the arcs bow outward into eyes, and a single crochet border finishes the edge. You then add a hanging loop and a tassel. The strands are never sewn to each other; each one hangs on its own from the rod.
Finished Size and Construction
- Strand width: 2.25 in (5.7 cm) at the eyes, 1.5 in (3.8 cm) at the waists
- Body length: about 73 in (185.4 cm), with 12 eyes and 13 waists
- Total length: about 82.75 in (210.2 cm), including the loop and the tassel
- Skill level: Easy–Intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: worsted (#4)
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8)
- Number of pieces: 20 strands (10 pink, 10 taupe)
- Layout: 2 panels of 10 strands each, with colors alternating
- Piece size: 2.25 in x 73 in (5.7 cm x 185.4 cm) body
- Size before border: 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide at the eyes
- Border depth: 1 round of sc, adding about 0.25 in on each side
Materials
Pick a smooth worsted cotton or a cotton blend with about 200 m per 100 g. Cotton keeps a crisp stitch outline and doesn’t stretch much while it hangs. Avoid fuzzy yarns, because they blur the eye shapes.
- Blush pink: 480 g / about 960 m
- Taupe/mocha: 480 g / about 960 m
Each strand uses about 83 m: about 69 m for the crocheted body and about 14 m for the tassel. Both quantities above include a margin of about 15%.
Tools:
– 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
– Stitch markers (at least 4)
– A stiff card 8 in (20.3 cm) wide for the tassels
– Sharp scissors
– Tape measure
– A curtain rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) in diameter
– Blocking pins and a spray bottle
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sp – space
- inc – increase (2 sts in the same stitch)
Special technique, free-loop sc: work under the single remaining loop on the underside of a foundation chain whose top loops have already been used.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 14 dc = 4 in (10.2 cm), and 21 ch = 6 in (15.2 cm) when relaxed.
Test one piece first. Make a 2-eye test strand: ch 46, then work Rows 1–2 and Rounds 3–4, using 2 repeats instead of 12.
Checkpoints for the test strand:
– After Row 2: the strand measures 12.9 in (32.8 cm) long, and each arc spans about 5.1 in (13.0 cm).
– After Round 3: the eyes measure 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide.
– After Round 4: the eyes measure 2.25 in (5.7 cm) wide, and the waists measure 1.5 in (3.8 cm).
If your test strand is too big (21 ch measures more than 6 in), go down to a 4.5 mm hook. If it’s too small, go up to a 5.5 mm hook. Chain length controls the overall drop, so match the chain gauge before you match the width.

Strand Pattern
Make 1 strand in each color as described below. The pattern is identical for both colors.
Row 1: Foundation Chain
Ch 256. This is 255 working chains plus 1 turning chain.
The chain is divided as 3 waist chains, then 12 repeats of (18 arc chains + 3 waist chains): 3 + (12 x 21) = 255. Keep your tension loose and even, because the chains of every arc are used again later.
Row 2: Building the Arcs
Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 2 ch. This makes the bottom waist, 3 sc.
Ch 18, skip the next 18 ch, sc in each of the next 3 ch. Repeat from * 11 more times, for 12 repeats in total.
Count: 39 sc (13 waists x 3) and 12 ch-18 arcs.
Each eye now has 2 arcs lying side by side. Arc A is the 18 skipped foundation chains, and Arc B is the new ch-18. Don’t fasten off. You are now at the top of the strand.
Checkpoint: the strand measures about 73 in (185.4 cm) long.
Round 3: Opening the Eyes (Conversion Round)
Ch 1 and turn. You will now work down Side B, along the Row 2 stitches.
Side B:
1. Sc in each of the first 3 sc (top waist).
2. Work dc in each ch of the next ch-18 arc, putting 2 dc in the 3rd, 7th, 12th and 16th ch. This makes 22 dc.
3. Sc in each of the next 3 sc.
4. Repeat from * 11 more times.
Bottom corner: ch 2. Rotate the work so you can see the free loops of the foundation chain.
Side A, working up the free loops:
1. Free-loop sc in each of the 3 waist chains.
2. Work dc in each of the 18 skipped arc chains, putting 2 dc in the 3rd, 7th, 12th and 16th ch. This makes 22 dc.
3. Free-loop sc in each of the next 3 waist chains.
4. Repeat from * 11 more times.
Top corner: ch 2, then sl st to the first sc.
Count for each arc: 18 dc (1 per chain) + 4 increases = 22 dc.
Count for each side: (13 x 3 sc) + (12 x 22 dc) = 39 + 264 = 303 sts.
Round total: 606 sts + 2 ch-2 corner spaces.
The added dc make each band’s outer edge longer than its inner chain edge. That extra length makes each band curve outward, which opens the eye. The waists stay at 1 stitch per stitch, so they remain narrow and pinched.
Checkpoint: eyes measure 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide.
Round 4: Border
See the Border section below. Work it now, before you add the hanging loop.
Hanging Loop
After Round 4, sl st into the next sc so you are at the center of the top corner group. Ch 18, sl st in the same st. Work 20 sc into the loop, then sl st to the first sc and fasten off.
The loop measures about 2.75 in (7.0 cm) long and fits over a rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) across.
Tassel
- Wrap yarn 30 times around the 8 in (20.3 cm) card.
- Tie the top with a 12 in tail, then cut the bottom loops.
- To make the rounded head, place a small ball of scrap yarn inside the fold.
- Wrap tightly 1 in (2.5 cm) below the top, 8 times, and knot.
- Trim the tassel to 7 in (17.8 cm).
- Use the top tail to tie the tassel through the bottom corner space of the strand, then weave in the ends.
Make All Pieces
- Blush pink: 10 strands
- Taupe/mocha: 10 strands
- Total: 20 strands, each with a hanging loop and a matching tassel

Joining (Hanging the Strands)
The strands aren’t stitched to each other. Each one is joined to the rod through its own hanging loop.
Stitch logic: the loop is anchored in the center sc of the 3-sc top corner group. That sc sits exactly above the strand’s center line, between Side A and Side B. Because of this, the strand hangs straight and the eyes face forward instead of twisting.
Spacing: slide the loops onto the rod with a gap of 1 in (2.5 cm) between neighboring strands.
Tension advice: if the 20-sc loop wrap is worked tightly, the top will flare out. Keep those sc relaxed so the loop stays round.
Size checkpoint: each panel measures (10 x 2.25 in) + (9 x 1 in) = 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide. If your window needs more coverage, add strands in pairs so the colors keep alternating.
Border
Border gauge: 14 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm).
Round 4: Ch 1. Work down Side B, then up Side A.
- Sc in each of the 3 waist sts.
- On the next 22-dc arc, sc in each dc, putting 2 sc in the 4th, 9th, 14th and 19th dc. This makes 26 sc.
- Sc in each of the next 3 waist sts.
- Repeat from * across the side.
Work 3 sc in each ch-2 corner space. Sl st to the first sc to finish the round.
Count for each arc: 22 sc (1 per dc) + 4 increases = 26 sc.
Count for each side: (13 x 3) + (12 x 26) = 39 + 312 = 351 sc.
Round total: 606 sc (1 per existing stitch) + 96 increases + 6 corner sc = 708 sc.
Why the math works:
– The outer edge of each arc is convex, so it needs about 1 extra stitch for every 5 or 6 stitches to lie flat. Four increases spread over 22 stitches does that.
– The increase positions mirror each other (4th and 19th, 9th and 14th), so every eye stays symmetrical.
– The waists stay at 1:1, so the pinched crossing look is kept.
– The 3 sc in each corner space round the ends neatly without cupping.
Final Blocking
- Lightly mist each strand until it’s damp but not wet.
- Lay the strand flat on a blocking mat.
- Pin the center of each eye open to 2.25 in (5.7 cm) wide, and pin each waist to 1.5 in (3.8 cm).
- Check that the repeats measure 6 in (15.2 cm) each from waist to waist.
- Let the strand dry completely.
- Steam each tassel and comb the strands straight, then retrim it to 7 in (17.8 cm) if needed.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every strand has 12 eyes and 13 waists.
- Each side of Round 3 has 303 sts, and each side of Round 4 has 351 sc.
- The eyes are 2.25 in (5.7 cm) wide and evenly opened.
- The waists are pinched and centered.
- The bodies all measure about 73 in (185.4 cm), within 0.5 in (1.3 cm) of each other.
- The hanging loops are anchored at the center top.
- The tassels are 7 in (17.8 cm), with firm, rounded heads.
- All ends are woven in securely.
Troubleshooting
- The eyes won’t open: the increases are missing, or the dc are too tight. Recount to 22 dc per arc.
- The strand twists: the loop isn’t centered. Re-anchor it in the middle sc of the top corner group.
- The strands are different lengths: the foundation chain tension varied. Block the long strands slightly shorter, or redo the chain.
- The border ruffles: your tension is loose. Drop to 3 increases per arc (2 sc in the 5th, 11th and 18th dc), which gives 25 sc per arc.
- The border cups: your tension is tight. Go up half a hook size for Round 4.
- The tassel head is lumpy: use a smaller filler ball and wrap more firmly.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, then reshape and dry the strands flat. Don’t tumble dry, because the long strands will stretch and tangle.

Final Notes
The measurement chain runs like this. The chain gauge of 21 ch = 6 in (15.2 cm) sets each repeat. Twelve repeats plus a final waist give a 73 in (185.4 cm) body. Round 3 opens the eyes to 1.75 in (4.4 cm), and Round 4 brings them to 2.25 in (5.7 cm). The loop and tassel bring each strand to 82.75 in (210.2 cm). Ten strands with 1 in (2.5 cm) gaps make a panel 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide.
Check your gauge with the test strand, and every strand will hang to the same length.
Happy crocheting!
