Daisy Meadow Hanging Toilet Paper Holder Crochet Pattern

This hanging toilet paper holder is a long sage green panel with three daisy pockets. It hangs from a natural wooden ring. Each pocket has a solid green base, an open green lattice band covered with cream daisies, and a corded cream rim.

There are three colors: sage green for the structure, cream for the petals and rims, and mustard yellow for the daisy centers. The style is soft and cottage-like. The pattern uses US crochet terms.

The finished holder is 6.5 in (16.5 cm) wide and 30.25 in (76.8 cm) long, measured from the folded tab to the bottom edge. With the ring, it is about 33.25 in (84.5 cm) long.

You work the panel flat from the bottom up and taper it into a tab. Each pocket is worked in the round from an oval base, and the daisies are made separately and sewn on. You then sew the pockets to the panel, add a one-round border and attach the ring.

Materials

Use a smooth worsted-weight cotton or cotton blend. Cotton holds its shape under the weight of a roll and doesn’t fuzz in a humid bathroom. These amounts assume about 190 m per 100 g.

  • Sage green: 250 g (approx. 475 m)
  • Cream: 75 g (approx. 143 m)
  • Mustard yellow: 20 g (approx. 38 m)

The quantities include a margin of about 20 percent.

Tools:

  • 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook
  • 3 in (7.6 cm) unfinished wooden ring
  • Tapestry needle
  • 8 locking stitch markers
  • Scissors and a measuring tape
  • Pins and a blocking mat

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sc2tog – single crochet 2 together
  • BLO – back loop only
  • rev sc – reverse single crochet
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • rnd(s) – round(s)
  • rep – repeat

Special stitches:

  • sc2tog: (Insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop) twice, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on the hook.
  • rev sc (crab stitch): Work from left to right (right-handed). Insert hook in the next st to the right, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through both loops. This stitch makes the corded rim.

Gauge and Checkpoints

Gauge: 16 sc and 18 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm), worked in rows.

Make one complete pocket and one daisy before you start the long panel. The pocket is the best test, because it has to fit a roll and its back has to match the panel width.

Checkpoints:

  • Pocket base after Rnd 6: 5.5 in x 2.75 in (14.0 cm x 7.0 cm)
  • Pocket after Rnd 17: 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall from the base ridge
  • Daisy: 1.75 in (4.4 cm) across
  • Panel after Row 2: 6 in (15.2 cm) wide
  • Panel after Row 108: 24 in (61.0 cm) long

If your pieces come out too big, go down half a hook size. If they’re too small, go up half a size. Always change the hook, not the stitch counts, because the joining depends on exactly 24 sts across.

Panel

Use sage green throughout.

Row 1: Ch 25. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (24 sc)

Rows 2–108: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (24 sc)

The panel now measures 6 in x 24 in (15.2 cm x 61.0 cm). Place markers at both ends of Rows 5, 22, 41, 58, 77 and 94. These rows are the pocket lines.

Taper:

Row 109: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog. (22 sc)

Row 110: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (22 sc)

Rows 111–126: Rep Rows 109–110 eight more times. The decrease rows have 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8 and then 6 sc. Row 126 has 6 sc.

The taper is 4 in (10.2 cm) tall.

Tab:

Rows 127–144: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (6 sc)

The tab measures 1.5 in x 4 in (3.8 cm x 10.2 cm). Fasten off.

The panel now measures 6 in x 32 in (15.2 cm x 81.3 cm).

Pocket (Make 3)

Use sage green. Start every round with ch 1, and join each round with a sl st to the first sc.

Rnd 1: Ch 13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 10 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working along the other side of the chain, sc in next 10 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (26 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in next st, sc in next 10, (2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 10, (2 sc in next st) 2 times. (32 sc)

Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) once, sc in next 10, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 10, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 2 times. (38 sc)

Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) once, sc in next 10, (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 10, (sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) 2 times. (44 sc)

Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) once, sc in next 10, (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 10, (sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) 2 times. (50 sc)

Rnd 6: (Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) once, sc in next 10, (sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 10, (sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) 2 times. (56 sc)

Checkpoint: the oval should be 5.5 in x 2.75 in (14.0 cm x 7.0 cm).

Walls:

Rnd 7: Sc in BLO of each st around. (56 sc) The unused front loops form a ridge, and the wall turns upward from there.

Rnds 8–10: Sc in each st around. (56 sc)

Lattice band:

Rnd 11 (conversion round): Sc in first st, *ch 5, skip 3 sts, sc in next st; rep from * 12 more times. Ch 2, skip the last 3 sts, and dc in the first sc instead of joining with a sl st. This makes 14 ch-5 loops, because 56 sts ÷ 4 = 14. The ch-2 plus dc counts as the last loop and leaves your hook at its center.

Rnds 12–13: Ch 1, sc around the post of the dc, *ch 5, sc in next loop; rep from * 12 more times, ch 2, dc in first sc. (14 loops)

Rnd 14: Ch 1, sc around the post of the dc, *ch 5, sc in next loop; rep from * 12 more times, ch 5, join with sl st to first sc. (14 loops)

The points where the loops cross form the small green stars that show between the daisies.

Rnd 15 (conversion round): 4 sc in each ch-5 loop around. (14 loops x 4 sc = 56 sc, no extra sts) Fasten off green.

Rim:

Rnd 16: Join cream with a sl st in any st. Sc in each st around. (56 sc)

Rnd 17: Rev sc in each st around. (56 rev sc) Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail.

Checkpoint: the pocket should be 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall.

Daisy (Make 21)

Rnd 1: With mustard, make a magic ring. Work 8 sc in the ring, pull it closed and join. (8 sc) Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Join cream with a sl st in any sc. *Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, sl st in the same sc where the petal started, sl st in next sc; rep from * 7 more times. (8 petals)

Fasten off, leaving an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail. Each daisy measures 1.75 in (4.4 cm) across.

Make All Pieces

  • Sage green: 1 panel, plus Rnds 1–15 of each of the 3 pockets
  • Cream: Rnds 16–17 of each of the 3 pockets, plus the petals of all 21 daisies
  • Mustard: the centers of all 21 daisies

Panel layout (bottom to top):

         ( ring )
          | tab | Rows 127–144
         / taper \ Rows 109–126
        | plain | Rows 95–108
        | POCKET 3| Rows 77–94
        | plain | Rows 59–76
        | POCKET 2| Rows 41–58
        | plain | Rows 23–40
        | POCKET 1| Rows 5–22
        | plain | Rows 1–4

Daisy layout on each pocket front:

Upper row (Rnds 13–14): D D D D
Lower row (Rnds 11–12): D D D

Joining

Daisies to pockets: Mark the 24 center-back sts of Rnd 17. The other 32 sts make up the front arc, which has 8 lattice loops per round (32 ÷ 4 = 8).

  • Upper row: Center 4 daisies on Rnds 13–14, one over each loop pair: 1–2, 3–4, 5–6 and 7–8.
  • Lower row: Center 3 daisies on Rnds 11–12, over the gaps between those pairs.

Tack each daisy at its center and at every petal tip with its cream tail. Sew only through the lattice chains.

Pockets to panel: Whipstitch each pocket along two 24-stitch lines, matching one stitch to one stitch:

  1. Base line: Sew the 24 back ridge loops from Rnd 7 to the 24 sts of the base row (Row 5, 41 or 77).
  2. Rim line: Sew the 24 marked sts of Rnd 17 to the 24 sts of the rim row (Row 22, 58 or 94).

The base and rim lines are 17 rows apart (22 − 5 = 17), which is 3.78 in (9.6 cm). That matches the 3.75 in (9.5 cm) pocket height, so the back wall lies flat.

Tension: Keep the stitches snug but not gathering. After you sew on each pocket, check that the panel still measures 6 in (15.2 cm) across.

Size checkpoint: The pocket bases should be 8 in (20.3 cm) apart, with 4 in (10.2 cm) of plain panel between pockets.

Border

Border gauge: 4 sc per 1 in (2.5 cm).

Rnd 1: With sage green, join with a sl st in the first st of Row 144. Ch 1 and work around the panel as follows:

  • Tab top: 3 sc in first st, sc in next 4, 3 sc in last st. (10 sc, includes both corners)
  • Tab side: 16 sc over 18 row ends. Work 1 sc in each row end, skipping every 9th one.
  • Taper side: 18 sc, 1 in each row end.
  • Long side: 96 sc over 108 row ends, skipping every 9th row end.
  • Bottom: 3 sc in first st, sc in next 22, 3 sc in last st. (28 sc, includes both corners)
  • Second long side: 96 sc.
  • Second taper side: 18 sc.
  • Second tab side: 16 sc.

Join with a sl st. Total: 298 sc (10 + 16 + 18 + 96 + 28 + 96 + 18 + 16).

Why the math works: The panel has 4.5 rows per inch but only 4 sts per inch, so working 8 sc over every 9 rows keeps the edge flat.

  • Long sides: 108 ÷ 9 x 8 = 96 sc, which is 24 in (61.0 cm).
  • Tab sides: 18 ÷ 9 x 8 = 16 sc, which is 4 in (10.2 cm).
  • Taper sides: The edge is a diagonal about 4.6 in (11.7 cm) long, so it needs the full 18 sc.

The border brings the panel to 6.5 in x 32.5 in (16.5 cm x 82.6 cm).

Attach the ring: Fold the tab over the ring toward the back of the panel, then whipstitch the tab top to the back of Rows 125–126. The folded tab takes up 2 in (5.1 cm), which gives the finished 30.25 in (76.8 cm) length.

Final Blocking

  1. Weave in all ends through stitches of the same color.
  2. Mist the holder until it is evenly damp.
  3. Pin the panel face up to 6.5 in x 30.25 in (16.5 cm x 76.8 cm).
  4. Stuff each pocket with a folded washcloth so the front bows out evenly.
  5. Smooth each daisy flat and open its petals.
  6. Let it dry completely, then unpin and hang.

Final Quality-Control Checklist

  • [ ] The panel has 24 sts across and measures 6 in (15.2 cm) wide before the border
  • [ ] The border has 298 sc and the long edges lie flat
  • [ ] Each pocket has 56 sts in Rnds 6–10 and 15–17
  • [ ] Each lattice round has 14 loops
  • [ ] Each pocket has 7 daisies, 4 on top and 3 below, staggered
  • [ ] Each pocket is sewn 24 to 24 at the base and at the rim
  • [ ] The pocket bases are 8 in (20.3 cm) apart
  • [ ] The ring tab is sewn on securely

Troubleshooting

  • The base ripples or cups: Recount each round: 26, 32, 38, 44, 50, 56.
  • The pocket flares at the top: Rnd 15 should have exactly 4 sc per loop.
  • The lattice sags: Tighten your chains, or use ch 4 in all three pockets.
  • The daisies cup: Pull the magic ring tighter, and block the daisies before sewing them on.
  • The border ruffles: Make sure you’re skipping every 9th row end on the long sides.
  • The pockets droop forward: Whipstitch the back wall to the panel again at Rnd 10.

Care

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap. Reshape the holder and dry it flat.

Sage crocheted three-tier organizer with white daisy flowers featuring yellow centers, holding paper towels in a bright minimalist bathroom.

Final Notes

Each measurement depends on the one before it:

  • A gauge of 16 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm) gives a 24-stitch panel that is 6 in (15.2 cm) wide.
  • Each pocket’s 24 back sts match the panel’s 24 sts.
  • Each 17-row pocket zone matches the 3.75 in (9.5 cm) pocket height.
  • The 298-stitch border and the folded tab finish the holder at 6.5 in x 30.25 in (16.5 cm x 76.8 cm).

If you check each of these as you go, the holder will hang straight.

Happy crocheting!
