The Rosebud Lattice Strand Curtain is a light, airy window curtain made of separate vertical strands. Each strand is a column of plump six-petal puff flowers set inside open chain-loop frames. The frames interlock between flowers and are edged with slim corded rails, so every strand reads as a chain of ovals and crossing diamonds.
This version uses two colors: a deep raspberry and a soft blush pink. The strands alternate colors across the rod, so you get a striped look from across the room and a delicate floral texture up close. The style is romantic and cottage-inspired, but the lattice keeps it airy enough to let daylight through.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. One finished strand measures 3.5 in (8.9 cm) wide and 56.5 in (143.5 cm) long, plus a 1.5 in (3.8 cm) hanging tab. Eight strands spaced 0.5 in (1.3 cm) apart make a panel 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide.
Construction is simple and repeatable. You crochet a flower motif in three rounds and join each new motif to the previous one as you go, which builds a strand of 16 motifs. You then work a two-round rail border around the whole strand, add a hanging tab, block it, and slide it onto the rod.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished panel size: 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide × 58 in (147.3 cm) drop, including tabs
- Skill level: Intermediate (puff stitches, join-as-you-go)
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: DK / light (3), cotton or cotton blend
- Hook: 4.0 mm (G-6)
- Number of pieces: 8 strands of 16 motifs each (128 motifs total)
- Layout: 8 strands side by side, colors alternating A-B-A-B; strands are not joined to each other
- Motif size: 3 in (7.6 cm) wide × 3.5 in (8.9 cm) tall, loop tip to loop tip
- Strand size before border: 3 in (7.6 cm) × 56 in (142.2 cm)
- Border depth: 0.25 in (0.6 cm) on each long edge and at each end
- Strand size after border: 3.5 in (8.9 cm) × 56.5 in (143.5 cm)
Materials
Choose a smooth, mercerized or matte DK cotton. Cotton holds the puff petals crisply, does not stretch much when the strand hangs, and blocks well. Avoid very fuzzy yarn, because it blurs the petals and fills in the open lattice.
- Color A, Raspberry: 250 g, about 600 m (4 strands)
- Color B, Blush Pink: 250 g, about 600 m (4 strands)
One motif uses about 3 g (7 m). One finished strand, including border and tab, uses about 55 g (130 m). These quantities include a margin of roughly 10 percent for gauge swatches and tension differences.
Tools:
- 4.0 mm (G-6) crochet hook
- Locking stitch markers (at least 4)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Spray bottle, blocking mats, and rust-proof pins
- Curtain rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) in diameter
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- sk – skip
- sp – space
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- rep – repeat
- RS – right side
Puff stitch (puff): [Yarn over, insert hook in the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop to 0.5 in (1.3 cm) tall] 4 times (9 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops, then ch 1 to lock. The locking ch 1 is part of the puff and is not counted as a separate chain.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Make one complete motif before you start a strand. Gauge matters here because you are making 128 motifs, so a small error per motif adds up over the length of a strand.
- After Round 2 (flower): 1.75 in (4.4 cm) across, petal tip to petal tip
- After Round 3 (framed motif): 3 in (7.6 cm) wide × 3.5 in (8.9 cm) tall, measured with the first loop at the top
- 4 joined motifs: 14 in (35.6 cm) long
- 8 joined motifs: 28 in (71.1 cm) long
- 16 joined motifs: 56 in (142.2 cm) long
If your motif is too big, change to a 3.5 mm hook, or pull the puff loops up a little shorter. If it is too small, change to a 4.5 mm hook. If only the frame is off but the flower is right, loosen or tighten your chains rather than changing hooks.

Flower Motif
Make all motifs in a single color. For a solid strand, work every motif and its border in the same color.
Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), work 12 sc in the ring, then pull the ring closed until only a small center hole remains. Sl st to the first sc. (12 sc)
Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count). Puff in the same sc as the join, ch 2, sk next sc. Puff in next sc, ch 2, sk next sc; rep from * 4 more times. Sl st to the top of the first puff. (6 puffs, 6 ch-2 sps)*
This round makes the six round petals. Skipping every other sc spaces the petals evenly and leaves the small open center you can see in the photo.
Round 3 (frame, Motif 1 only): Sl st into the first ch-2 sp. Ch 1, sc in the same sp. Ch 7, sc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * 4 more times. Ch 7, sl st to the first sc. (6 sc, 6 ch-7 loops)* Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Number the loops in the order you made them, Loop 1 through Loop 6. Hold the motif so Loop 1 is at the top. Loop 4 is then at the bottom, Loops 2 and 3 are on one side, and Loops 5 and 6 are on the other side. Place a marker in Loop 4.
Join-As-You-Go Strand
For Motifs 2 to 16, work Rounds 1 and 2 as above. Round 3 joins the new motif to the bottom loop of the motif before it.
Round 3 (joining, Motifs 2 to 16): Sl st into the first ch-2 sp. Ch 1, sc in the same sp. Ch 3, then take the hook from front to back through Loop 4 of the previous motif and sl st around that loop. Ch 3, sc in next ch-2 sp. This makes the joined Loop 1. Ch 7, sc in next ch-2 sp; rep from * 3 more times. Ch 7, sl st to the first sc. (6 sc, 1 joined loop + 5 ch-7 loops = 6 loops)*
The ch 3, sl st, ch 3 sequence takes up the same length as ch 7. The joined loop is therefore the same size as every other loop, and the motifs stay in line. Move the marker to Loop 4 of the new motif each time.
The two joined loops interlock at the joint and form the small crossed “X” shape between flowers.
Strand checkpoint: After 16 motifs, the strand should measure 56 in (142.2 cm) long and 3 in (7.6 cm) wide when laid flat without stretching.
Make All Pieces
- Color A (Raspberry): 4 strands × 16 motifs = 64 motifs
- Color B (Blush Pink): 4 strands × 16 motifs = 64 motifs
- Total: 8 strands, 128 motifs
Work the border and tab of each strand in the same color as its motifs.
Layout across the rod (left to right):
| A | B | A | B | A | B | A | B |
3.5" gaps 0.5" between each strand
Joining
Inside a strand, the motifs are joined as you go, as described above. The rule is one loop to one loop: Loop 1 of each new motif joins only to Loop 4 of the motif above it. No extra chains or stitches are added at the seam.
Keep the joining sl st snug but not tight. If you pull it hard, the joint puckers and the strand shortens. If you leave it loose, the motifs sag apart when the strand hangs. Check each joint against the 3.5 in (8.9 cm) spacing between joints.
The strands themselves are not sewn to each other. Each strand hangs on its own tab, which lets the curtain move and makes it easy to remove a single strand for washing. Slide the tabs onto the rod in A-B order and space them 0.5 in (1.3 cm) apart. The panel then measures 8 × 3.5 in + 7 × 0.5 in = 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide.
Border (Side Rails and Hanging Tab)
Border gauge: 4 sc into each ch-5 sp lie flat along one side of a motif. One finished rail adds 0.25 in (0.6 cm) on each edge.
Each motif has 2 side loops on each long edge, so each side of a 16-motif strand starts with 16 × 2 = 32 side loops. No loops are added at the joints.
Rnd 1 (rail base): With RS facing, join yarn with sc in Loop 1 of Motif 1 at the top. Ch 4, sc in Loop 2 of Motif 1, ch 5, sc in Loop 3 of Motif 1. *Ch 5, sc in Loop 2 of next motif, ch 5, sc in Loop 3 of the same motif; rep from * down the side through Motif 16. Ch 4, sc in Loop 4 of Motif 16, ch 4.
Work up the other side the same way: sc in Loop 5 of Motif 16, ch 5, sc in Loop 6 of Motif 16. *Ch 5, sc in Loop 5 of next motif up, ch 5, sc in Loop 6 of the same motif; rep from * through Motif 1. Ch 4, sl st to the first sc.
- Per long side: 32 sc, 31 ch-5 sps
- Each end: 1 sc and 2 ch-4 sps
- Round total: 66 sc, 62 ch-5 sps, 4 ch-4 sps
The ch-5 that crosses each joint makes the crossing diamond seen between the flowers.
Rnd 2 (rail cover): Ch 1, sc in the same st. Work 3 sc in each ch-4 sp, 1 sc in each sc, and 4 sc in each ch-5 sp all the way around. Sl st to the first sc.
- Per long side: 32 + (31 × 4) = 156 sc
- Each end: 1 + (2 × 3) = 7 sc
- Round total: 156 + 156 + 7 + 7 = 326 sc
Why the math works: Each ch-5 sp gets 4 sc, one fewer than its chains. That slight reduction keeps the rail taut, so it does not ruffle and its length matches the motif edge. The 3 sc in each short ch-4 sp turn the ends neatly without cupping.
Hanging tab: Do not fasten off. Ch 20, then sl st into the same top-center sc to form a loop. Work 26 sc into the ch-20 loop, then sl st into the top-center sc. Fasten off and weave in the ends. The tab fits a rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) in diameter and hangs about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) above the top motif.
Final Blocking
- Weave in all remaining ends along the rails, never through the petals.
- Lay one strand on blocking mats, working in sections if your mat is shorter than the strand.
- Pin the rails in two straight lines 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart.
- Pin each joint so the joints sit 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart.
- Push each flower gently into a round shape with your fingers and plump the puffs. Do not pin through the petals.
- Spray until the strand is damp, not soaked.
- Let it dry completely, then unpin and move to the next section.
- Hang the strand for 24 hours before measuring the final drop.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each flower has 6 even puffs and a small open center.
- Each motif has 6 loops, and Loop 1 is joined to Loop 4 of the motif above.
- Each strand has 16 motifs and measures 56 in (142.2 cm) before the border.
- Rnd 1 of the border has 32 sc on each long side.
- Rnd 2 of the border has 156 sc on each long side and 326 sc in total.
- The rails lie flat, with no ruffling or puckering.
- Each tab is securely fastened and all ends are hidden.
- The finished strand measures 3.5 in (8.9 cm) × 56.5 in (143.5 cm).
- The strands alternate A-B on the rod with 0.5 in (1.3 cm) gaps.
Troubleshooting
Puffs look flat or lopsided: Pull every loop up to the same 0.5 in (1.3 cm) height, and always lock with ch 1.
The center hole is too big: Pull the magic ring tighter before you sl st, then secure the tail firmly.
The strand is shorter than expected: Your joining sl sts are too tight, or your ch-7 loops are too short. Loosen your chains.
The strand twists when it hangs: Make sure every joining sl st goes from front to back through the loop. Steam block, then hang the strand with a light clip at the bottom for a day.
The rails ruffle: Check that you worked exactly 4 sc per ch-5 sp. If you did, drop to a 3.5 mm hook for Rnd 2.
The rails pull the motifs inward: Your Rnd 1 chains are too tight. Rework them with relaxed tension.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent, then press out the water in a towel without wringing. Lay the strand flat to dry, reshaping the flowers, before you hang it again.

Final Notes
The measurement chain is short and reliable. A 1.75 in (4.4 cm) flower becomes a 3 in × 3.5 in (7.6 cm × 8.9 cm) motif. Sixteen joined motifs make a 56 in (142.2 cm) strand, and the border makes it 3.5 in × 56.5 in (8.9 cm × 143.5 cm). Eight strands with 0.5 in (1.3 cm) gaps give a curtain 31.5 in (80.0 cm) wide. Check your gauge on the first motif and again at 4 motifs, and every strand will come out the same.
Happy crocheting!
