This wall organizer hangs next to your bed as one arched panel. It has a three-band rainbow at the top and five storage spots below. It holds a phone, glasses, earbuds, a charger plug and a coiled cable, so the nightstand stays clear.
It uses three warm colors: a cream base and border, mustard yellow and a soft taupe. The rainbow runs mustard, taupe, then textured cream around a plain cream center. The pockets alternate mustard and taupe, and a cream button strap holds the cable.
The pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished organizer is 11 in (27.9 cm) wide and 17 in (43.2 cm) tall, not counting the hanging cord.
You work the panel flat in single crochet rows and shape the arch with decreases. The rainbow is a semicircle worked in turned rows. The pockets are pouches worked in rounds. You sew everything on, then add a rope-texture border and a chain cord.

Materials
Choose a smooth worsted-weight yarn in cotton or a cotton blend. Cotton keeps the panel firm, so the pockets won’t sag under a phone. The amounts below assume about 200 m per 100 g.
- Cream: 170 g / 340 m (panel, rainbow center, strap, border, cord)
- Mustard: 60 g / 120 m (outer rainbow band, 1 large pocket, 1 small pocket)
- Taupe: 60 g / 120 m (middle rainbow band, 1 large pocket, 1 small pocket)
The quantities include a margin of about 20% for the swatch and the tails.
Tools: 5.0 mm hook, tapestry needle, one 5/8 in (1.6 cm) wooden button, stitch markers, rustproof pins, measuring tape, scissors, blocking mat, spray bottle or steamer, and a wall peg.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- sc2tog – single crochet 2 together
- inc – 2 sc in the same stitch
- BLO / FLO – back loop only / front loop only
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- RS / WS – right side / wrong side
- rev sc – reverse single crochet
Reverse single crochet (rev sc): Work from left to right (if you are right-handed). Insert the hook into the next stitch to the right, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both loops. Each stitch twists, which gives a rope-like edge.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 14 sc and 14 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm) with a 5.0 mm hook.
The gauge needs to be square because the border puts 1 sc in each row end.
Make one small pocket first as your test piece. Flattened, it should measure about 2.9 in (7.4 cm) across.
Panel checkpoints:
– After Row 14: 4 in (10.2 cm) tall and 10 in (25.4 cm) wide
– After Row 28: 8 in (20.3 cm) tall
– After Row 42: 12 in (30.5 cm) tall
– After Row 56: 16 in (40.6 cm) tall
Rainbow checkpoints:
– After Row 7: the straight edge is 4 in (10.2 cm)
– After Row 14: the straight edge is 8 in (20.3 cm)
Too big? Use a 4.5 mm hook. Too small? Use a 5.5 mm hook. Change hooks if you’re off by more than 1/4 in (0.6 cm) over 4 in (10.2 cm). Don’t change the stitch counts, because the pocket layout depends on the 35-stitch width.

Backing Panel
Work in cream. The ch-1 at the start of each row does not count as a stitch.
Foundation: Ch 36.
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (35 sts)
Rows 2–42: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (35 sts)
The panel now measures 10 in x 12 in (25.4 cm x 30.5 cm).
Arch shaping: The decreases start far apart and get closer together toward the top. This rounds the top into a tombstone shape.
Rows 43–44: Ch 1, sc across, turn. (35 sts)
Row 45: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 31 sts, sc2tog, turn. (33 sts)
Rows 46–47: Ch 1, sc across, turn. (33 sts)
Row 48: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 27 sts, sc2tog, turn. (31 sts)
Row 49: Ch 1, sc across, turn. (31 sts)
Row 50: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 25 sts, sc2tog, turn. (29 sts)
Row 51: Ch 1, sc across, turn. (29 sts)
Row 52: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 23 sts, sc2tog, turn. (27 sts)
Row 53: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 21 sts, sc2tog, turn. (25 sts)
Row 54: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 19 sts, sc2tog, turn. (23 sts)
Row 55: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 17 sts, sc2tog, turn. (21 sts)
Row 56: Ch 1, [sc2tog] twice, sc in next 13 sts, [sc2tog] twice. (17 sts)
Fasten off. The panel is 16 in (40.6 cm) tall. The top row is about 4.9 in (12.4 cm) wide.
Rainbow Appliqué
The rainbow is a semicircle worked in turned rows, and each row adds 3 stitches. To change colors, switch to the new color on the last yarn over of the row before.
Row 1 (RS): With cream, make a magic ring, ch 1, 3 sc in ring, turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, inc in each st, turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, [sc 1, inc] 3 times, turn. (9 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, [sc 2, inc] 3 times, turn. (12 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, [sc 3, inc] 3 times, turn. (15 sts)
Rows 1–5 form the plain center, which has a 1.4 in (3.6 cm) radius.
Row 6 (WS): Ch 1, working in FLO, [sc 4, inc] 3 times, turn. (18 sts) The unworked back loops leave a raised line on the RS. This line marks the start of the textured cream band.
Row 7: Ch 1, [sc 5, inc] 3 times, turn. (21 sts)
Row 8: Ch 1, [sc 6, inc] 3 times, changing to taupe, turn. (24 sts)
Row 9: Ch 1, [sc 7, inc] 3 times, turn. (27 sts)
Row 10: Ch 1, [sc 8, inc] 3 times, turn. (30 sts)
Row 11: Ch 1, [sc 9, inc] 3 times, changing to mustard, turn. (33 sts)
Row 12: Ch 1, [sc 10, inc] 3 times, turn. (36 sts)
Row 13: Ch 1, [sc 11, inc] 3 times, turn. (39 sts)
Row 14: Ch 1, [sc 12, inc] 3 times. (42 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 24 in (61.0 cm) mustard tail. Each band is 3 rows, about 0.9 in (2.3 cm) deep.
Pockets
Each pocket is a pouch. You work it in continuous rounds around both sides of a foundation chain. Mark the first stitch of each round.
Large Pocket (make 2: 1 mustard, 1 taupe)
Foundation: Ch 16.
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 13 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working along the free loops on the other side: sc in next 13 ch, 2 sc in the first ch. (1 + 13 + 3 + 13 + 2 = 32 sts)
Rnds 2–14: Sc in each st around. (32 sts)
Rnd 15: Sl st in BLO of each st around. (32 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 30 in (76.2 cm) tail. Flattened, the pocket is about 4.6 in (11.7 cm) wide and 4 in (10.2 cm) tall.
Small Pocket (make 2: 1 taupe, 1 mustard)
Foundation: Ch 10.
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working along the free loops: sc in next 7 ch, 2 sc in the first ch. (1 + 7 + 3 + 7 + 2 = 20 sts)
Rnds 2–10: Sc in each st around. (20 sts)
Rnd 11: Sl st in BLO of each st around. (20 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 24 in (61.0 cm) tail. Flattened, the pocket is about 2.9 in (7.4 cm) square.
Cable Strap and Hanging Cord
Cable Strap (cream)
Foundation: Ch 12.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (11 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc 7, ch 2, skip 2 sts, sc 2, turn. (7 sc + 2 ch + 2 sc = 11 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc 2, 2 sc in ch-2 space, sc 7, turn. (11 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc across. (11 sts)
Fasten off. The strap measures 3.1 in x 1.1 in (7.9 cm x 2.8 cm). The anchored end is the end farther from the buttonhole.
Hanging Cord (cream)
Ch 50. Sl st in the back bump of the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (49 sl sts)
The cord should measure about 13 in (33.0 cm). Add or remove chains to adjust the length. Leave an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail at each end.
Make All Pieces
- Cream: 1 panel, 1 rainbow (bands in taupe and mustard), 1 strap, 1 cord
- Mustard: 1 large pocket, 1 small pocket
- Taupe: 1 large pocket, 1 small pocket
Layout grid (panel rows from the bottom; the numbers are panel stitches; m = 1-st margin, g = 1-st gap):
Rows 39-53 | RAINBOW (centered, straight edge on Row 39) |
Rows 24-38 | m | LARGE MUSTARD (16) | g | LARGE TAUPE (16) | m |
Rows 17-23 | open panel |
Rows 5-15 | m | SMALL TAUPE (10) | g | SMALL MUSTARD (10) | g | STRAP (11) | m |
Rows 1-4 | open panel |
Width check: The middle row is 1 + 16 + 1 + 16 + 1 = 35 sts. The bottom row is 1 + 10 + 1 + 10 + 1 + 11 + 1 = 35 sts. Both rows match the panel width exactly.
Joining
Pin every piece in place on the RS of the panel before you sew.
Rainbow: Place the straight edge along Row 39, over panel sts 4–31. Whipstitch the straight edge with cream. Then whipstitch the curved edge with the mustard tail, sewing 1 panel stitch for each rainbow stitch.
Large pockets: Lay each pouch so its back face rests on the panel. The mustard pocket goes over sts 2–17 and the taupe pocket over sts 19–34, with the bottom folds on Row 24. Whipstitch the bottom and side folds, sewing 1 panel stitch or row for each pocket stitch or round. Then use a running stitch to tack the back rim to Row 38. The pocket rims cover the bottom edge of the rainbow.
Small pockets: Place the taupe pocket over sts 2–11 and the mustard pocket over sts 13–22, with the bottoms on Row 5. Sew them the same way and tack the back rims to Row 15.
Strap: Place the strap over sts 24–34 on Rows 9–12, with the anchored end at st 24. Sew the anchored end down firmly. Sew the button to the panel directly under the buttonhole. Coil the cable behind the strap and button it closed.
Tension: Sew firmly enough that there are no gaps, but not so tight that the panel puckers.
Size checkpoint: After joining, the panel should still measure 10 in x 16 in (25.4 cm x 40.6 cm).
Border
Border gauge: Work 1 sc in each stitch and 1 sc in each row end. Because the gauge is square, the row-end stitches lie flat.
Rnd 1 (RS): Join cream in the first st of Row 56.
- Top: 2 sc in first st, sc 15, 2 sc in last st. (17 + 2 added = 19)
- Left side: 1 sc in each row end: 14 along the shaped part plus 42 along the straight part. (56)
- Bottom: In the free loops of the foundation chain: 3 sc in first ch, sc 33, 3 sc in last ch. (35 + 4 added = 39)
- Right side: 1 sc in each row end: 42 + 14. (56)
Sl st to the first sc. (19 + 56 + 39 + 56 = 170 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, rev sc in each st around, sl st to join. (170 sts)
Fasten off.
Why the math works: The top adds 2 stitches to round the shoulders of the arch. The bottom adds 2 extra stitches at each corner so it can turn 90 degrees. Each side has exactly 1 stitch per row (56 rows). Rnd 2 doesn’t add any stitches. The two rounds together add 1/2 in (1.3 cm) on each side. The width becomes 10 + 1 = 11 in (27.9 cm), and the height becomes 16 + 1 = 17 in (43.2 cm).
Cord: Sew one end of the cord to each top corner of the border, at the 2-sc increases. Knot the ends on the WS.
Final Blocking
- Pin the organizer face up to 11 in x 17 in (27.9 cm x 43.2 cm).
- Check that the sides are straight and both sides of the arch match.
- Mist it, or steam from 1 in (2.5 cm) above. Never let the iron touch the yarn.
- Push the pockets out from the inside so they keep their boxy shape.
- Leave the rev sc border unpressed so it keeps its rope texture.
- Leave it pinned until it is completely dry.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- The organizer measures 11 in x 17 in (27.9 cm x 43.2 cm).
- Both sides of the arch match.
- The rainbow shows three clear bands and the FLO ridge.
- The pocket rows are level, with 1-stitch gaps.
- The back rims are tacked down.
- The button holds the strap securely.
- The border has 170 sts and lies flat.
- The cord is secure, and the panel hangs straight.
Troubleshooting
Panel narrows: You’re missing end stitches. Count to 35 every 10 rows.
Rainbow cups: Go up one hook size for the rainbow, or block it before sewing.
Rainbow ruffles: Use a hook one size smaller for Rows 9–14.
Pockets sag: Add a second running-stitch line across the back rim.
Border waves: Your rows are shorter than your stitches. On each straight side, skip 1 row end in every 8, the same number on both sides.
Border pulls in: Add 1 sc in every 10th row end, the same number on both sides.
Care
Hand wash in cool water and lay it flat to dry, reshaping the pockets while they’re damp. Don’t tumble dry it.

Final Notes
All the measurements build on each other. A gauge of 14 sts and 14 rows per 4 in (10.2 cm) gives a 35-stitch panel that is 10 in (25.4 cm) wide, and 56 rows make it 16 in (40.6 cm) tall. The pockets fit those 35 stitches exactly. The 170-stitch border adds 1/2 in (1.3 cm) on each side, so the finished organizer is 11 in x 17 in (27.9 cm x 43.2 cm). If you check each stage as you go, everything will line up.
Happy crocheting!
