This curtain is made of hanging strands of cream flowers and plum leaf sprigs, with a natural wood bead between each motif and a full tassel at the bottom. Hung in a doorway or window, it lets the light through and still looks finished and deliberate.
The colors are cream and deep plum, with warm wood beads as the accent. The style sits between boho macramé and classic Scandinavian winter décor. All instructions use US crochet terms.
The finished curtain is 10 strands wide and about 39.5 in (100.3 cm) across. Each strand hangs about 80.5 in (204.5 cm) from the rod to the tip of the tassel.
You crochet every flower and leaf separately and block them. Then you link them into strands with short cream bead connectors, add a hanging loop at the top and a tassel at the bottom, and slide the strands onto a rod.

Materials
Yarn advice: Use a smooth worsted cotton or cotton-acrylic blend, about 180 m per 100 g. Cotton gives crisp petal points and does not stretch much while hanging. Avoid fuzzy yarns, because they hide the eyelets and leaflets.
- Cream: 470 g (846 m), for the flowers, connectors, top loops and 5 tassels
- Plum: 340 g (612 m), for the leaves and 5 tassels
These amounts include a margin of about 10% for gauge differences and test pieces.
Tools and notions:
– 4.0 mm (G-6) crochet hook
– 150 wooden beads, 16 mm, with holes wide enough for worsted yarn
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Stiff card, 5.5 in (14.0 cm) tall, for the tassels
– Rust-proof pins and a blocking mat
– Spray bottle
– Curtain rod, at least 42 in (106.7 cm) long and no thicker than 5/8 in (1.6 cm)
– Tape measure
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- sp – space
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- rep – repeat
Special stitches (leaflets):
– Small leaflet (SL): ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch (2 sts).
– Medium leaflet (ML): ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch (3 sts).
– Large leaflet (LL): ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch (4 sts).
Petal: (hdc, dc, tr, ch 2, tr, dc, hdc), all in the same space.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Make one flower and one leaf before you make anything else. You need 140 motifs, so a small gauge error adds up across the whole curtain.
Chain gauge: 9 ch = 2 in (5.1 cm).
Flower checkpoints:
– After Round 1: 1.25 in (3.2 cm)
– After Round 2: 2 in (5.1 cm)
– After Round 3: 3.25 in (8.3 cm), tip to tip
– After Round 4: 3.5 in (8.9 cm), tip to tip
Leaf checkpoint: 5 in (12.7 cm) long, including the stem nub, and 2.25 in (5.7 cm) wide at the largest leaflets.
Strand checkpoint: After 4 motifs (2 flowers + 2 leaves) and 3 connectors, the strand should measure 20 in (50.8 cm).
If your pieces are too big: go down to a 3.75 mm (F-5) hook.
If your pieces are too small: go up to a 4.5 mm (7) hook.
Change the hook, not the stitch counts. The total length of the curtain depends on the motifs staying the same size.

Flower Motif (make 70, cream)
Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 15 dc in the ring, and sl st to the top of ch-3 to join. Pull the ring closed. (16 dc)
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in the same st, ch 2, skip next st. Work 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip next st. Rep from * 6 more times. Sl st to the top of ch-3 to join. (16 dc in 8 pairs + 8 ch-2 sps)
The ch-2 spaces become the ring of 8 eyelets. Check the 2 in (5.1 cm) measurement now.
Round 3 (petals): Sl st in the next dc and into the next ch-2 sp. Work a petal in that same sp. Sl st in the gap between the next 2 dc, then work a petal in the next ch-2 sp. Rep from * 6 more times. Sl st in the gap between the first 2 dc to join. (8 petals = 48 sts + 8 ch-2 points + 8 sl sts)
Each petal sits directly over an eyelet, so the hole shows at the base of the petal.
Round 4 (outline): Work in each petal as follows: sc in the hdc, sc in the dc, sc in the tr, (sc, ch 2, sc) in the ch-2 point, sc in the tr, sc in the dc, sc in the hdc, then sl st in the sl st between petals. Rep around and join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off. (64 sc + 8 sl sts + 8 ch-2 points)
That is 8 sc per petal. The sl st keeps the gap between petals sharp, and the ch-2 keeps the petal tip pointed.
Attachment points: The top point is the ch-2 at the tip of any petal (Petal 1). The bottom point is the ch-2 tip of Petal 5, directly opposite.
Leaf Sprig Motif (make 70, plum)
Number the foundation chains from the slip knot: ch #1 is the first chain and ch #21 is next to the hook.
Foundation: Ch 21.
Side 1 (tip to base): Sl st in 2nd ch from hook (ch #20). Sl st in the next ch (#19). Then work these 8 leaflets in this order, with “sl st in next 2 ch” after each one: SL, SL, ML, ML, ML, LL, LL, LL. This uses ch #18 to #3. Sl st in the last 2 ch (#2 and #1). (19 chains used: 1 + 16 + 2)
Stem nub: Ch 4, then sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 2 ch. (3 sl sts) The tip of the nub is the top attachment point.
Side 2 (base to tip): Rotate the work and use the free bottom loops of the foundation chain. Sl st in ch #1 and #2. Then work these 8 leaflets in this order, with “sl st in next 2 ch” after each one: LL, LL, LL, ML, ML, ML, SL, SL. This uses ch #3 to #18. Sl st in ch #19. (19 chains used: 2 + 16 + 1)
Tip: Sl st in ch #20, ch 2, and sl st in the skipped tip chain (#21) to make a small tip loop. Fasten off. The tip loop is the bottom attachment point.
Leaf totals: 16 leaflets, 50 leaflet stitches (25 per side: 2+2+3+3+3+4+4+4).
The leaflets grow from small at the tip to large at the base, which gives the sprig its tapered, branch-like outline.
Make All Pieces
- Cream flowers: 70 (7 per strand x 10 strands)
- Plum leaves: 70 (7 per strand x 10 strands)
- Plum tassels: 5 (for Strand A)
- Cream tassels: 5 (for Strand B)
- Wood beads: 150 (15 per strand: 13 between motifs, 1 at the top, 1 above the tassel)
Strand A starts with a flower and ends with a leaf, then a plum tassel.
Strand B starts with a leaf and ends with a flower, then a cream tassel.

F = cream flower, L = plum leaf, P = plum tassel, C = cream tassel.
Joining (Bead Connectors)
Method: Each pair of motifs is joined by its own short cream chain with one bead locked in the middle.
Connector:
1. Thread 1 bead onto the cream yarn.
2. Join with a sl st into the bottom attachment point of the upper motif.
3. Ch 2, slide the bead up against the hook, and ch 2 more. The first chain after the bead locks it in place.
4. Sl st into the top attachment point of the next motif.
5. Fasten off and weave the tails into the motifs.
Stitch-to-stitch logic:
– A flower always connects through the ch-2 tip of Petal 1 (top) and the ch-2 tip of Petal 5 (bottom).
– A leaf always connects through the stem nub (top) and the tip loop (bottom).
Because the connection points are directly opposite each other, every motif hangs straight.
Tension: Keep the chains on either side of the bead firm and even. Loose chains let the beads slide and droop. Measure each connector: it should be 1 in (2.5 cm) from motif to motif.
Size checkpoint: Each strand has 13 connectors. One strand is 7 flowers (24.5 in) + 7 leaves (35 in) + 13 connectors (13 in) = 72.5 in (184.2 cm). Strands A and B use the same pieces, so every strand comes out the same length.
Border (Top Loops and Tassel Finish)
A strand curtain has no crocheted edging along its sides, because the strands hang free. Its “border” is the finishing at the top and bottom of each strand. Every strand gets the same finish, so the edges line up.
Border gauge: The same as the connectors: 9 ch = 2 in (5.1 cm).
Top edge (1 per strand, 10 total):
1. Thread 1 bead onto the cream yarn.
2. Ch 10 and sl st in the first ch to form the rod loop.
3. Ch 2, slide the bead up, ch 2.
4. Sl st into the top attachment point of the first motif. Fasten off.
The top section measures 2 in (5.1 cm) and fits a rod up to 5/8 in (1.6 cm) thick.
Bottom edge (1 per strand, 10 total):
1. Thread 1 bead onto the cream yarn.
2. Join to the bottom attachment point of the last motif. Ch 2, slide the bead up, ch 2.
3. Fasten off, leaving an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail.
Tassel (make 10):
1. Wrap the yarn 30 times around the 5.5 in (14.0 cm) card.
2. Slide a 10 in (25.4 cm) strand under the wraps at the top and tie it tightly.
3. Cut the wraps along the bottom of the card.
4. Wrap the neck 6 times, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) below the top, and tie it off.
5. Trim the ends to 5 in (12.7 cm).
6. Pull the 8 in (20.3 cm) connector tail through the top of the tassel, knot it, and hide the ends inside the tassel.
The bottom section measures 6 in (15.2 cm).
Per-side counts:
– Top: 10 loops
– Bottom: 10 tassels (5 plum, 5 cream)
– Left and right sides: 0 stitches, because the outer strands hang free
Why the math works:
– Strand length: 2 in + 72.5 in + 6 in = 80.5 in (204.5 cm).
– Hang the loops at 4 in (10.2 cm) centers. That gives 9 gaps x 4 in = 36 in (91.4 cm) between the outer strands. Add half a flower width on each side (3.5 in total) and the curtain is 39.5 in (100.3 cm) wide.
– A 4 in spacing leaves at least 0.5 in (1.3 cm) between flowers on neighbouring strands if they ever hang side by side, so the motifs do not tangle.
– With 10 strands (an even number), the tassel colors alternate cleanly from plum to cream across the curtain.
Final Blocking
- Before you assemble anything, spray each motif lightly until it is damp.
- Pin each flower to 3.5 in (8.9 cm). Put one pin in every petal tip so all 8 points stay sharp.
- Pin each leaf to 5 in x 2.25 in (12.7 cm x 5.7 cm), spreading the leaflets evenly and pointing them toward the base.
- Let the motifs dry completely. This usually takes 12 to 24 hours.
- After assembly, hang the strands on the rod and let them hang for 24 hours so the connectors settle.
- Steam the tassels lightly with the iron held above them, never touching, and comb the strands straight with your fingers.
- Trim any uneven tassel ends to 5 in (12.7 cm).
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- All 70 flowers measure 3.5 in (8.9 cm), with 64 sc and 8 pointed tips.
- All 70 leaves measure 5 in (12.7 cm), with 16 leaflets each.
- Every flower is connected through opposite petal tips (Petal 1 and Petal 5).
- Each strand has 15 beads, all locked firmly.
- Strands A and B alternate across the rod, starting with A on the left.
- All strands measure 80.5 in (204.5 cm).
- Tassels alternate plum, cream, plum, cream.
- All ends are woven in, and no tails show through the eyelets.
Troubleshooting
Flower cups or ruffles: Your Round 3 petals are too tight or too loose compared with Round 2. Check that Round 2 has exactly 8 ch-2 spaces, then block the flower flat.
Petal tips look rounded: Make sure the ch-2 in Round 4 is worked as (sc, ch 2, sc), and pin every tip during blocking.
Leaf curls into a spiral: The foundation chain is too tight. Chain with a hook one size larger and keep the 4.0 mm hook for the rest of the leaf.
Leaflets are uneven on the two sides: Recount the leaflet order. Side 2 must mirror Side 1: LL, LL, LL, ML, ML, ML, SL, SL.
Strands are different lengths: Measure the connectors. Each one should be 1 in (2.5 cm). Remake any that are long.
Beads slide: Work the first ch after the bead tightly, right up against the bead.
Strands twist: Connect at exactly opposite points. Off-center joins make a strand rotate.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, gently press out the water, and dry the curtain flat. Lay the beads on a towel while it dries, and smooth the tassels with your fingers.

Final Notes
The whole curtain depends on one measurement chain:
– 9 ch = 2 in (5.1 cm)
– Flower = 3.5 in (8.9 cm); leaf = 5 in (12.7 cm); connector = 1 in (2.5 cm)
– 14 motifs + 13 connectors = 72.5 in (184.2 cm)
– Add the 2 in (5.1 cm) top section and the 6 in (15.2 cm) bottom section for 80.5 in (204.5 cm) per strand
– Ten strands at 4 in (10.2 cm) centers give a width of 39.5 in (100.3 cm)
Check gauge on your first flower and leaf, measure as you go, and the strands will hang evenly in the doorway.
Happy crocheting!
