The Coral Blossom Window Curtain is a light, decorative panel that frames a window without blocking the view. A cream lace header with a coral zigzag hangs from a curtain rod, and 11 beaded strands fall from its points. The strands carry layered coral-and-cream flowers, ridged cream leaves and coral tassels.
The palette is just two colors: warm coral and natural cream. It suits a cottage or boho kitchen, a sunroom or a summer window. This pattern uses US crochet terms throughout.
The finished curtain measures 33¼ in (84.5 cm) wide and 36 in (91.4 cm) from the top of the header to the bottom of the tassels, not counting the rod loops. The header is 5½ in (14.0 cm) deep, and each strand is 30½ in (77.5 cm) long.
You work the header body in rows, add rod loops along the top, and finish with a pointed border. Then you make the flowers, leaves, beads, cords and tassels separately and assemble 11 strands, one hanging from each point.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: 33¼ × 36 in (84.5 × 91.4 cm)
- Skill level: Intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4) cotton
- Hook: 4.5 mm (US 7) for most pieces; 3.5 mm (US E-4) for the beads
- Number of pieces: 1 header, 11 cords, 10 flowers, 18 leaves, 60 beads, 11 tassels
- Layout: 11 strands across, alternating Leaf (B) and Flower (A) strands
- Header body before border: 33¼ × 3½ in (84.5 × 8.9 cm)
- Border depth: 2 in (5.1 cm)
- Strand length: 30½ in (77.5 cm), including a 4½ in (11.4 cm) tassel
Materials
Use a smooth, mercerized or combed worsted-weight cotton, about 85 m per 50 g. Cotton holds the shape of the petals and leaves, and it hangs straight in sunlight without stretching.
- Cream: 150 g (255 m), for the header, points, leaves, cords and inner petals
- Coral: 150 g (255 m), for the border band, outline, flower centers and outer petals, beads and tassels
- Polyester fiberfill: a small handful, for the beads
Tools:
– 4.5 mm (US 7) and 3.5 mm (US E-4) crochet hooks
– Tapestry needle
– Stitch markers
– Stiff card 4¾ in (12.1 cm) tall, for the tassels
– Scissors, tape measure, rust-proof pins
– Blocking mat or towel, spray bottle
These quantities include a margin of about 25 percent for gauge swatches and tails.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- sc2tog – single crochet 2 together
- BLO – back loop only
- BPsc – back post single crochet
- MR – magic ring
- sk – skip
- sp(s) – space(s)
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- RS – right side
Special stitch – BPsc: Insert the hook from the back, around the post of the stitch you’re told to use, and back out to the back. Yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. This places the next petal layer behind the one before it.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge with the 4.5 mm hook: 16 dc and 8 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm); 16 sc and 18 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm).
Before starting the header, make one of each small piece and check it:
- Flower: 4 in (10.2 cm) across after Round 7
- Leaf: 4½ in (11.4 cm) long and 2 in (5.1 cm) wide
- Bead (3.5 mm hook): ¾ in (1.9 cm) across
Header checkpoints:
– After Row 1: 33¼ in (84.5 cm) wide
– After Row 7: 3½ in (8.9 cm) deep
– After the border: 5½ in (14.0 cm) deep
If a piece is too big, go down a hook size. If it’s too small, go up a hook size. Width matters most on the header, so measure it after Row 1 before you go any further.

Header Body
Work with cream and the 4.5 mm hook. The beginning ch-3 counts as a dc throughout.
Row 1: Ch 135, dc in the 4th ch from the hook and in each ch across, turn. (133 dc)
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), sk next st, dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st across, turn. (67 dc, 66 ch-1 sps = 133 sts)
Row 3 (shells): Ch 1, sc in first dc, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st across, turn. Count each ch-1 sp as a stitch. (22 shells, 23 sc = 133 sts)
Row 4: Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), sc in center dc of next shell, ch 2, dc in next sc, ch 2, sc in center dc of next shell, ch 2, dc in next sc across, turn. (23 dc, 22 sc, 44 ch-2 sps = 133 sts)
Row 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc across, turn. (133 dc)
Row 6: Repeat Row 2. (67 dc, 66 ch-1 sps)
Row 7: Ch 3, dc in each st and ch-1 sp across. (133 dc)
Fasten off. The body should measure 33¼ × 3½ in (84.5 × 8.9 cm).
Rod Loops
With the RS facing, join cream in the first foundation ch at the top edge.
Top row: Ch 1, sc in first ch, ch 12, sl st in the same sc. Then work sc in each of next 12 chs, ch 12, sl st in the last sc made 11 times. (133 sc, 12 loops)
The loops sit 3 in (7.6 cm) apart, at stitches 1, 13, 25 and so on through 133. They fit a rod up to 1¼ in (3.2 cm) across.
Border
The border sits on the bottom edge (Row 7). It has 11 points, and each point is worked over 12 stitches, so the border band needs exactly 11 × 12 = 132 stitches.
Border gauge: 16 sc and 18 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm).
Band Row (coral): With the RS facing, join coral in the first dc of Row 7. Ch 1, sc in each of the first 66 sts, sc2tog over the next 2 sts, sc in each of the last 65 sts. This makes 133 − 1 = 132 sc. Fasten off.
The single decrease brings 133 down to a clean multiple of 12. It falls in the center of the band, where it can’t be seen.
Points (cream): Work each point on its own set of 12 sc, from right to left.
- Row 1: Join cream in the first sc of the set, ch 1, sc in the same st and the next 11 sts, turn. (12 sc)
- Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 8 sts, sc2tog, turn. (10 sc)
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog, turn. (8 sc)
- Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn. (6 sc)
- Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn. (4 sc)
- Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog twice, turn. (2 sc)
- Row 7: Ch 1, sc2tog. (1 sc)
Fasten off. Make 11 points across the 132 band stitches with no stitches left over. Each point is 3 in (7.6 cm) wide and about 1½ in (3.8 cm) deep.
Outline (coral): Join coral at the right end of the band. For each point:
- Work 7 sc evenly down the right side edge, 1 per row end.
- Work (sc, ch 4, sc) in the tip stitch.
- Work 7 sc up the left side edge.
- Sl st into the valley between this point and the next.
Each point gets 7 + 2 + 7 = 16 sc and 1 ch-4 hanging loop. The whole outline has 176 sc, 11 loops and 10 valley sl sts. Fasten off.
The border measures 2 in (5.1 cm) from the band to the tips. That brings the header to 5½ in (14.0 cm) deep.
Flowers (Make 10)
Use the 4.5 mm hook.
Rnd 1 (coral): Make an MR, ch 1, 12 sc in the ring, sl st to the first sc. (12 sc) Fasten off coral.
Rnd 2 (cream): Join cream. Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 2, sk next st, sc in next st, ch 2, sk next st 5 times, sl st to the first sc. (6 sc, 6 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 3: In each ch-2 sp work (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc), then sl st to the first sc. (6 petals, 7 sts each = 42 sts)
Rnd 4: Working behind the petals, BPsc around the next Rnd 2 sc, ch 4 6 times, sl st to the first BPsc. (6 sc, 6 ch-4 loops) Fasten off cream.
Rnd 5 (coral): Join coral in any ch-4 loop. In each loop work (sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc), then sl st to the first sc. (6 petals, 9 sts each = 54 sts)
Rnd 6: Working behind the petals, BPsc around the next Rnd 4 sc, ch 5 6 times, sl st to the first BPsc. (6 sc, 6 ch-5 loops)
Rnd 7: In each ch-5 loop work (sc, hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc), then sl st to the first sc. (6 petals, 11 sts each = 66 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail for sewing. The flower should measure 4 in (10.2 cm) across.
Leaves (Make 18)
Use cream and the 4.5 mm hook. Work every row after Row 1 in the BLO. The unworked front loops form the ridges, and the stitches you leave unworked at the end of each row form the steps.
Row 1: Ch 16. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and the next 13 chs, 3 sc in the last ch, then working along the opposite side of the chain, sc in each of the next 14 chs. (31 sc)
Rows 2–7: Ch 1, turn. Sc BLO in each st up to the center st of the previous row’s 3-sc tip, work 3 sc BLO in that center st, then sc BLO in each st along the other side, leaving the last 3 sts unworked. Each row uses one fewer stitch than the row before:
| Row | Sts worked |
|---|---|
| 2 | 30 |
| 3 | 29 |
| 4 | 28 |
| 5 | 27 |
| 6 | 26 |
| 7 | 25 |
Stem: Ch 4, sl st in the base of the leaf to make a small loop. Fasten off, leaving a 10 in (25.4 cm) tail. The leaf should measure 4½ × 2 in (11.4 × 5.1 cm).
Bobble Beads (Make 60)
Use coral and the 3.5 mm hook.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in an MR. (6 sc)
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sc)
- Rnd 3: Sc in each st. (12 sc)
- Rnd 4: Sc2tog 6 times. (6 sc)
Stuff the bead firmly. Thread the tail through the front loops, pull it closed and leave an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail. Each bead is ¾ in (1.9 cm) across.
Tassels (Make 11)
Wrap coral 30 times around the 4¾ in (12.1 cm) card. Tie the wraps together at the top with a 10 in (25.4 cm) length of coral, then cut the loops at the bottom. Wrap a separate strand tightly around the tassel ½ in (1.3 cm) below the top and knot it. Trim the tassel to 4½ in (11.4 cm).
Make All Pieces
| Color | Pieces |
|---|---|
| Cream | 1 header body, 11 points, 18 leaves, 11 cords |
| Coral | 1 border band and outline, 60 beads, 11 tassels |
| Both | 10 flowers |
Strand layout, left to right (B = Leaf strand, A = Flower strand):
B A B A B A B A B A B
That’s 6 B strands and 5 A strands. The B strands use 6 × 3 = 18 leaves and 6 × 5 = 30 beads. The A strands use 5 × 2 = 10 flowers and 5 × 6 = 30 beads, for 60 beads in total.
Joining
Cords: Join cream to the ch-4 loop at a point tip. Ch about 104, until the chain measures 26 in (66.0 cm) when slightly stretched. Then sl st in the back bump of each ch back up to the loop, and fasten off. Make one cord at each of the 11 tips.
Attaching the pieces: Lay the header flat with the cords straight. Working from the top down, sew each piece to the front of its cord.
- Beads: Stitch the bead’s tail through the cord twice at the bead’s center.
- Flowers: Stitch around Rnd 1 so the cord runs behind the flower.
- Leaves: Sew along the center spine so the cord runs behind it.
Strand A (top to bottom): gap, bead, gap, bead, gap, flower, gap, bead, gap, bead, gap, flower, gap, bead, gap, bead, gap. Every gap is 1½ in (3.8 cm).
Strand B (top to bottom): gap, bead, gap, leaf, gap, bead, gap, leaf, gap, bead, gap, bead, gap, leaf, gap, bead, gap. The first eight gaps are 1 in (2.5 cm) each, and the last gap is ¾ in (1.9 cm).
Both strand types add up to exactly 26 in (66.0 cm), so every tassel sits at the same height:
- Strand A: 9 gaps × 1½ in (13½ in) + 6 beads × ¾ in (4½ in) + 2 flowers × 4 in (8 in) = 26 in
- Strand B: 8 gaps × 1 in + one ¾ in gap (8¾ in) + 5 beads × ¾ in (3¾ in) + 3 leaves × 4½ in (13½ in) = 26 in
Sew a tassel to the end of each cord.
Tension: Pull the sewing stitches snug but not tight. A cord that’s pulled too tight puckers and shortens.
Size checkpoint: Each strand should measure 30½ in (77.5 cm) and the whole curtain 36 in (91.4 cm) tall.
Final Blocking
- Lay the header RS up on a mat and pin it to 33¼ × 5½ in (84.5 × 14.0 cm).
- Pin each point tip so it comes to a sharp point.
- Spray the header until it’s damp, not soaked.
- Lay the flowers flat, shape the petals with your fingers and spray them lightly.
- Pin the leaves to 4½ in (11.4 cm) long.
- Let everything dry completely.
- Hang the curtain and gently straighten the cords and tassels.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Header is 33¼ in (84.5 cm) wide and 5½ in (14.0 cm) deep
- 11 points, each with 16 outline sc and a ch-4 loop
- 12 rod loops spaced 3 in (7.6 cm) apart
- 10 flowers, 18 leaves, 60 beads and 11 tassels attached
- Strands alternate B–A from left to right, starting and ending with B
- All tassels hang at the same height
- All ends woven in securely
Troubleshooting
- Header ruffles: Your stitches are too loose; go down a hook size.
- Points lean to one side: Check that each Row 1 uses exactly 12 sc.
- Flower layers crowd each other: Work the BPsc stitches firmly behind the petals.
- Leaf steps look uneven: Count the 3 unworked stitches at the end of every row.
- Beads are lumpy: Stuff them evenly and close them tightly.
- Strands are different lengths: Measure each gap again, then trim the cord or add chains.
Care
Hand wash in cool water, roll in a towel and dry flat, then reshape while damp. Keep the curtain out of strong direct sun for long periods to prevent fading.

Final Notes
The measurements build on each other in a set order:
- Gauge gives a header 33¼ in (84.5 cm) wide.
- The 132-stitch band divides into 11 points of 12 stitches each.
- Each point anchors one 26 in (66.0 cm) cord.
- Each cord carries exactly measured flowers, leaves and beads, and ends in a 4½ in (11.4 cm) tassel.
- The finished curtain is 36 in (91.4 cm) tall.
Check each stage before moving on, and the finished curtain will hang evenly.
Happy crocheting!
