These lace curtain panels mix warm terracotta and soft cream in a diamond layout. Each diamond holds an open fan of treble crochet stitches, and a terracotta lattice of chain arches frames them. In sunlight the fans glow and the lattice throws diamond shadows across the floor.
The pattern makes a pair of identical panels. Each panel is worked as one piece with a solid terracotta header, six tab-top loops for the rod, cream side edges, and a scalloped cream hem. The look is boho and sun-washed, made for a farmhouse or Mediterranean room.
All terms are US crochet terms. Each finished panel measures 25 in (63.5 cm) wide by 84 in (213.4 cm) long, from the top of the tab loops to the tips of the scallops.
You work the body from the bottom up in rows of fan lace. You change colors in blocks (intarsia) so the fans alternate terracotta and cream. Then you add the header, crochet the tabs, fold and sew them, and finish with a two-row border along the sides and hem.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size (each panel): 25 in (63.5 cm) wide x 84 in (213.4 cm) long
- Skill level: Experienced (intarsia lace, high stitch counts)
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4) cotton
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8)
- Number of pieces: 2 identical panels, each worked in one piece, not joined to each other
- Layout: One panel on each side of a window or door
- Body size (each panel): 24 in (61.0 cm) wide x 78 in (198.1 cm) tall, 73 sts wide
- Size before border: 24 in (61.0 cm) wide x 81 in (205.7 cm) tall, including the header
- Border depth: 0.5 in (1.3 cm) on each side, 1 in (2.5 cm) at the hem
- Tab loops: rise 2 in (5.1 cm) above the header
Materials
Pick a smooth worsted cotton with about 170 m per 100 g. Mercerized or combed cotton works well. Cotton holds the fan shapes, hangs straight, and handles sunlight better than acrylic. Don’t use a fuzzy yarn, because the lattice will lose its crisp lines.
- Terracotta: 450 g (765 m) per panel, 900 g (1,530 m) for the pair
- Cream: 375 g (638 m) per panel, 750 g (1,275 m) for the pair
These amounts include a margin of about 15 percent for swatching and color changes.
Tools
- 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- 14 yarn bobbins (7 in use at a time, so you can wind the next tier ahead)
- Tapestry needle
- Locking stitch markers
- Tape measure
- Rust-proof pins and a large blocking surface
- Spray bottle
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- sk – skip
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sp – space
- RS / WS – right side / wrong side
- T / C – Terracotta / Cream
Fan: 5 tr worked in the same stitch on Row 1 or Row 5. On the following rows the fan opens up, with chains between its 5 tr.
Half fan: 3 tr worked in the same stitch at each edge on Row 5. On the first half fan, the turning chain counts as the first tr.
Counting rule: every chain counts as a stitch in the row totals below. Turning chains count as the first stitch, except the ch 1 on sc rows.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: two 12-st pattern repeats measure 8 in (20.3 cm) wide, and one 8-row pattern repeat measures 6 in (15.2 cm) tall. Measure after a light steam.
Test swatch: Ch 26. Row 0: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (25 sc). Work Rows 1–8 below with 2 repeats instead of 6. Your swatch counts should be:
- Row 1: 13 sts
- Row 2: 29 sts
- Row 3: 37 sts
- Row 4: 25 sts
- Row 5: 13 sts
- Row 6: 29 sts
- Row 7: 37 sts
- Row 8: 25 sts
If your swatch doesn’t match:
- Bigger than 8 in x 6 in: go down one hook size.
- Smaller: go up one hook size.
- Right width but too short: pull up each tr a little taller. Don’t change the chain counts.
Checkpoints for the panel:
- After Row 8 (first repeat): 24 in (61.0 cm) wide, 6.25 in (15.9 cm) tall including Row 0
- After 4 repeats: 24.25 in (61.6 cm) tall
- After 13 repeats: 78.25 in (198.8 cm) tall
- After the header: 81 in (205.7 cm) tall

Panel Body
Color plan: Rows 0, 4, and 8 are always Terracotta and form the lattice. On Rows 1–3 and 5–7, each fan block is worked in one color, with one bobbin per block. Work color changes like this:
- Change color in the last yarn-over of the stitch before a new block.
- Keep the unused strand on the WS.
- For Rows 4 and 8, carry the main T ball up the side edge. The border will hide it.
Block colors, read right to left with the RS facing:
- Tier A (Rows 1–3): T, C, T, C, T, C (6 bobbins)
- Tier B (Rows 5–7): half fan in C, then full fans in T, C, T, C, T, then half fan in C (7 bobbins)
Each block includes its fan, the chains on both sides of it, and the single tr after it. On WS rows, work each stitch in the color it already has. After a tier’s third row, cut each bobbin and leave a 6 in (15.2 cm) tail. Weave the tail into that fan’s tr posts.
With T, ch 74.
Row 0 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (73 sc)
Row 1 (RS): Ch 4 (counts as tr), *sk next 5 sts, 5 tr in next st, sk next 5 sts, tr in next st; rep from * 5 more times. Turn. (37 sts: 6 fans + 7 single tr)
Row 2 (WS): Ch 4 (counts as tr), *ch 2, tr in first tr of fan, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 4 times, ch 2, tr in next single tr; rep from * 5 more times, working the last tr in top of the turning ch. Turn. (85 sts: 1 + 14 per repeat)
Row 3 (RS): Ch 4 (counts as tr), *ch 2, tr in first tr of fan, (ch 2, tr in next tr) 4 times, ch 2, tr in next single tr; rep from * 5 more times. Turn. (109 sts: 1 + 18 per repeat)
Row 4 (WS): With T only, ch 1, sc in first tr, *ch 5, sc in center (3rd) tr of next fan, ch 5, sc in next single tr; rep from * 5 more times, working the last sc in top of the turning ch. Turn. (73 sts: 1 + 12 per repeat)
Row 5 (RS): Ch 4 (counts as tr), 2 tr in same st (half fan), *sk next 5 sts, tr in next sc, sk next 5 sts, 5 tr in next sc; rep from * 4 more times, sk next 5 sts, tr in next sc, sk next 5 sts, 3 tr in last sc. Turn. (37 sts: 3 + 30 + 4)
The single tr now sit above the Tier A fan centers, and the fans sit above the Tier A single tr. That half-repeat shift creates the diamond layout.
Row 6 (WS): Ch 5 (counts as tr and ch 1), tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next tr, *ch 2, tr in next single tr, ch 2, tr in first tr of fan, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 4 times; rep from * 4 more times, ch 2, tr in last single tr, ch 2, tr in first tr of half fan, ch 1, tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in top of turning ch. Turn. (85 sts: 5 + 70 + 5 + 5)
Row 7 (RS): Ch 6 (counts as tr and ch 2), tr in next tr, ch 2, tr in next tr, *ch 2, tr in next single tr, ch 2, tr in first tr of fan, (ch 2, tr in next tr) 4 times; rep from * 4 more times, ch 2, tr in last single tr, ch 2, tr in first tr of half fan, ch 2, tr in next tr, ch 2, tr in top of turning ch. Turn. (109 sts: 7 + 90 + 5 + 7)
Row 8 (WS): With T only, ch 1, sc in first tr, *ch 5, sc in next single tr, ch 5, sc in center tr of next fan; rep from * 4 more times, ch 5, sc in last single tr, ch 5, sc in top of turning ch. Turn. (73 sts: 1 + 60 + 12)
Rows 1–8 form the pattern. Work them 13 times in total, ending with Row 8. Don’t fasten off. The body now measures 24 in (61.0 cm) x 78.25 in (198.8 cm).
Header and Tabs
Row H1 (RS): With T, ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st across. Work into the chains themselves, not around them. Turn. (73 dc)
Rows H2–H4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st across. Turn. (73 dc)
Row H5 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off. (73 sc)
The header measures 2.75 in (7.0 cm) tall.
Tabs: Make 6 tabs of 8 sts each, with 5 gaps of 5 sts between them. That uses all 73 sts: 6 x 8 + 5 x 5 = 73.
- With WS facing, join T in the first st of Row H5.
- Tab Rows 1–24: Ch 1, sc in each of next 8 sts. Turn. (8 sc)
- After Row 24, fasten off and leave a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail.
- Skip the next 5 sts of Row H5, join T in the next st, and work the next tab.
- Repeat until you have 6 tabs.
Each tab is 2.7 in (6.9 cm) wide and 6 in (15.2 cm) long. Each gap is 1.7 in (4.3 cm).
Make Both Panels
Make 2 identical panels. Each panel uses 450 g of Terracotta and 375 g of Cream.
Each panel has 13 Tier A bands of 6 blocks (78 blocks: 39 T and 39 C) and 13 Tier B bands of 7 blocks (91 blocks: 39 T full fans, 26 C full fans, 26 C half fans).
Layout as hung, seen from inside the room:
[ Rod: 6 tabs ] [ Rod: 6 tabs ]
[ Panel 1: 25 x 84 in ] [ Panel 2: 25 x 84 in ]
[ left of opening ] [ right of opening ]
Joining: Tabs and Hanging
The two panels are not joined to each other. The only sewing is the tab fold.
Fold each tab to the WS. Lay its last row along the WS of Row H2, directly behind the tab’s own 8 base sts. Whipstitch the 8 tab sts to the 8 matching header sts, one to one, so the tab sits straight and doesn’t twist.
Keep the whipstitches snug but not tight. The header should stay flat, with no dimple behind the tab.
Checkpoint: each loop should rise 2 in (5.1 cm) above the header and slide easily over a rod up to 1.5 in (3.8 cm) thick.
Border
The border is worked in Cream, in 2 rows, in a U shape: down one side, across the hem, and up the other side. The top edge stays plain so the tabs hang cleanly.
Border gauge: along the side edges, work about 3.7 sc per inch (per 2.5 cm). That is 22 sc per 8-row repeat, which is 6 in (15.2 cm) tall. Lace edges stretch, and this rate keeps them from ruffling or pulling in.
Side placement:
- 3 sc in each tr row end
- 2 sc in each Row 4 or Row 8 end
- 2 sc in each header dc row end
- 1 sc in each plain sc row end (Rows 0 and H5)
Side math:
- Body: 13 repeats x (6 tr rows x 3 + 2 lattice rows x 2) = 13 x 22 = 286 sc
- Header: 4 dc rows x 2 + Row H5 x 1 = 9 sc
- Row 0: 1 sc
- Total per side: 286 + 9 + 1 = 296 sc
Border Row 1 (RS): With RS facing, join C at the top right corner (end of Row H5). Ch 1, then:
- Work 296 sc down the right side.
- Ch 2 for the corner.
- Work 1 sc in each free loop of the foundation chain across the bottom (73 sc).
- Ch 2 for the corner.
- Work 296 sc up the left side.
Turn. (665 sc + 2 corner ch-2 sps)
Border Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, then:
- Sc in each of the 296 side sc.
- Sc in the corner ch-2 sp.
- Hem scallops: sc in first sc, *sk 2 sc, 7 dc in next sc, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * 11 more times.
- Sc in the next corner ch-2 sp.
- Sc in each of the 296 side sc.
Fasten off. (Sides: 296 sc each. Corners: 1 sc each. Hem: 12 scallops = 84 dc + 13 sc = 97 sts. Total: 691 sts.)
Why the math works: each scallop uses 6 hem sts, and 12 x 6 + 1 = 73. So 2 scallops sit under every 12-st fan repeat. The 2 side rows add 0.5 in (1.3 cm) per side, so the panel is 24 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 25 in (63.5 cm) wide. The sc row and the scallops add 1 in (2.5 cm) at the hem.
Final Blocking
- Weave in all ends along tr posts of the matching color.
- Soak the panel in cool water for 20 minutes, then press out the water in a towel. Don’t wring it.
- Lay it flat, RS up, on towels or blocking mats.
- Pin the body to 24 in (61.0 cm) wide.
- Pin the length to 81 in (205.7 cm), from Row 0 to the top of the header.
- Open each fan, and pin the center of each scallop so the 12 points are even.
- Let it dry fully. Then hang it for 24 hours so the lace settles.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each panel is 25 in (63.5 cm) wide and 84 in (213.4 cm) long.
- The fan colors alternate correctly, and the diamonds line up on the diagonals.
- Every lattice row is fully Terracotta.
- There are 6 even, untwisted tabs per panel, all with matching loop heights.
- The side edges are straight and don’t ruffle.
- There are 12 matching scallops on each hem.
- No bobbin tails show on the RS.
Troubleshooting
- Fans ruffle: your tr are too loose. Go down a hook size for Rows 2–3 and 6–7.
- Lattice puckers: your ch-5 arches are too tight. Chain more loosely, or go up a hook size for Rows 4 and 8.
- Count is off on Row 4 or Row 8: you missed a fan center. Each 12-st repeat must hold exactly 2 sc.
- Color shows through on the RS: change colors on the last yarn-over, with the old strand kept on the WS.
- Panel too narrow: re-wet it and pin the body to 24 in (61.0 cm) wide.
- Sides wave: pull out Border Row 1 and work 2 sc instead of 3 in some tr row ends.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, and dry flat out of direct sun. If you machine wash, use a mesh bag on a gentle cycle, then reshape and dry flat.

Final Notes
The whole design depends on one chain of measurements:
- Two 12-st repeats measure 8 in (20.3 cm), so 6 repeats give a 24 in (61.0 cm) wide body.
- Each 8-row repeat is 6 in (15.2 cm) tall, so 13 repeats give 78 in (198.1 cm).
- Row 0 and the 2.75 in (7.0 cm) header bring the length to 81 in (205.7 cm).
- The border adds 0.5 in (1.3 cm) per side and 1 in (2.5 cm) at the hem, for 25 in (63.5 cm) by 82 in (208.3 cm).
- The tab loops add the last 2 in (5.1 cm), for 84 in (213.4 cm) in total.
If your swatch matches, every count above will land where it should.
Happy crocheting!
