This hanging holder keeps three spare toilet rolls in a neat vertical stack. Three round, open-top baskets are sewn between two flat side straps, and the straps meet at a natural wooden ring that slips over a wall hook. Each basket has a white daisy with a golden center and two olive-green leaves on the front.
The main yarn is a heathered dusty pink with soft rose and peach tones, which gives the solid single crochet fabric a warm, cottage feel. The daisies are white, the flower centers are golden yellow, and the leaves are olive green.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished holder is about 5.5 in (14.0 cm) wide across each basket and about 21 in (53.3 cm) tall from the top of the ring to the bottom of the lowest basket. Each basket holds a standard roll up to 4.5 in (11.4 cm) across.
Here’s how it’s built:
– Crochet three identical baskets from the base up in joined rounds.
– Work two long straps in rows.
– Make three flowers and six leaves.
– Sew the baskets to the straps and edge each strap with one border round.
– Add the flowers and leaves, then fold the strap ends around the ring.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished size: about 5.5 in (14.0 cm) wide x 21 in (53.3 cm) tall, including the ring
- Skill level: Easy to Intermediate
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4)
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8)

Materials
Choose a worsted-weight cotton or cotton blend. Cotton holds its shape in a humid bathroom and makes firm basket walls. A heathered pink matches the look shown best. The amounts below assume about 190 m per 100 g.
- Dusty pink (main color): 130 g, about 247 m
- White (petals): 10 g, about 19 m
- Golden yellow (centers): 5 g, about 10 m
- Olive green (leaves): 6 g, about 11 m
All amounts include a margin of roughly 15 to 20 percent for swatching and sewing.
Tools
- 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- 1 wooden ring, 3 in (7.6 cm) outer diameter
- Tapestry needle
- 6 or more locking stitch markers
- Straight pins
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- inc – 2 sc in the same stitch
- BLO – back loop only
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- rnd – round
- MR – magic ring
Special stitch – Petal: (hdc, 3 dc, hdc) all in 1 stitch. This makes a rounded petal of 5 sts anchored in a single base stitch.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 14 sc and 16 rows or rounds = 4 in (10.2 cm) with a 5.0 mm hook. That is 3.5 sts and 4 rows per 1 in (2.5 cm).
Make one basket first and use it as your gauge swatch. You need a firm fabric so the walls stand up on their own.
Checkpoints:
- Base after Rnd 5 (30 sts): about 2.75 in (7.0 cm) across
- Base after Rnd 10 (60 sts): about 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across
- Wall after Rnd 22: 3 in (7.6 cm) tall above the base ridge
- Strap width (5 sts): 1.4 in (3.6 cm)
- Strap after Row 40: 10 in (25.4 cm)
- Strap after Row 80: 20 in (50.8 cm)
If your piece is too big: go down to a 4.5 mm (7) hook. Loose baskets sag and lean outward.
If your piece is too small: go up to a 5.5 mm (I-9) hook. Check that a roll still slides in easily.
Don’t add or remove stitches to fix the size. The strap rows are matched to the basket rounds, so change the hook size instead.

Basket (Make 3)
Use dusty pink and work in joined rounds. The ch 1 at the start of each round does not count as a stitch. Join each round with a sl st to the first sc.
Base
- Rnd 1: MR, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, inc in each st around, join. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc in next st, inc) 6 times, join. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: Ch 1, (sc in next 4 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (36 sts)
- Rnd 7: Ch 1, (sc in next 5 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (42 sts)
- Rnd 8: Ch 1, (sc in next 6 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (48 sts)
- Rnd 9: Ch 1, (sc in next 7 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (54 sts)
- Rnd 10: Ch 1, (sc in next 8 sts, inc) 6 times, join. (60 sts)
Checkpoint: the base lies flat and measures about 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across.
Walls
- Rnd 11 (turning round): Ch 1, sc BLO in each st around, join. (60 sts) The unworked front loops form a crisp ridge, and the wall starts to rise.
- Rnds 12–22: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join. (60 sts in each round)
You now have 12 wall rounds (Rnds 11–22), measuring 3 in (7.6 cm).
- Rnd 23 (rim): Ch 1, sl st loosely in each st around, join. (60 sl sts) This firms the top edge without adding noticeable height.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Mark the basket. Turn the basket so the round joins are at the center back. Counting from the join, place a marker in st 15 and in st 45 of Rnd 22. These mark the center of each side, where the straps go. St 30 is the center front, where the daisy goes.
Strap (Make 2)
Use dusty pink and work in rows.
- Row 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (5 sts)
- Rows 2–80: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (5 sts in each row)
Fasten off.
Strap map (counting up from Row 1):
- Rows 1–12: lowest basket
- Rows 13–18: gap, 1.5 in (3.8 cm)
- Rows 19–30: middle basket
- Rows 31–36: gap, 1.5 in (3.8 cm)
- Rows 37–48: top basket
- Rows 49–74: hanging section, 6.5 in (16.5 cm)
- Rows 75–80: folded around the ring, 1.5 in (3.8 cm)
Place markers in Rows 12, 18, 30, 36, 48 and 74.
Daisy Flower (Make 3)
- Rnd 1: With golden yellow, MR, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join. (8 sts)
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, inc in each st around, join. (16 sts) Fasten off yellow.
- Rnd 3: Join white in any st. (Sl st in next st, Petal in next st) 8 times, join to the first sl st. (8 petals; 8 sl sts + 8 petals x 5 sts = 48 sts)
Each petal and sl st pair uses 2 base sts, so the 8 repeats use all 16 sts of Rnd 2. Fasten off, leaving a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail. The flower measures about 2.25 in (5.7 cm) across.
Leaf (Make 6)
- With olive green, ch 6.
- Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. (5 sts)
- Ch 1 for the tip. Rotate and work along the other side of the foundation chain: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. (5 sts)
- Sl st to the first sc. (10 sts plus 1 tip ch)
Fasten off, leaving an 8 in (20.3 cm) tail. Each leaf is about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) long.
Make All Pieces
Before assembly, check that you have:
- Dusty pink: 3 baskets and 2 straps
- Golden yellow and white: 3 daisies
- Olive green: 6 leaves

Joining
Sew the baskets to the straps before you work the strap border. Each strap lies flat against the outside of the basket wall, centered on a side marker.
Stitch-to-stitch logic. Each strap is 5 sts wide, the same width as 5 wall sts at this gauge. Center one strap on st 15 so it covers wall sts 13–17, and center the other on st 45 so it covers sts 43–47. Each strap row lines up with one wall round: strap Row 1 sits on wall Rnd 11, and strap Row 12 sits on wall Rnd 22.
Method
- Pin the lowest basket between the straps at Rows 1–12, with the wrong side of each strap against the basket.
- Thread a tapestry needle with dusty pink.
- Backstitch up strap column 2, catching 1 wall stitch for each strap row. Do the same along strap column 4. Leave columns 1 and 5 free for the border.
- Repeat steps 1–3 for the strap on the other side.
- Attach the middle basket at Rows 19–30 and the top basket at Rows 37–48 the same way.
Tension. Pull each backstitch just snug. The strap should lie flat without puckering, and the basket should stay round.
Size checkpoint. The gaps between baskets should each be 1.5 in (3.8 cm). From the bottom of the lowest wall to the rim of the top basket should measure 12 in (30.5 cm): 3 walls x 3 in (7.6 cm) plus 2 gaps x 1.5 in (3.8 cm).
Border
The border is 1 round of sc around each strap. It neatens the row ends and makes the straps firmer.
Border gauge: the main gauge. Work 1 sc per row end on the long sides and 1 sc per stitch on the short ends.
Border round (per strap): Join dusty pink in the first st of Row 80. Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch).
- Short end (top, Row 80): 3 sc in the first st, sc in the next 3 sts, 3 sc in the last st. (9 sts, corner groups included)
- Long side 1: sc in each row end from Row 80 down to Row 1. (80 sts, corners not included)
- Short end (bottom): Working into the foundation chain, 3 sc in the first ch, sc in the next 3 ch, 3 sc in the last ch. (9 sts, corner groups included)
- Long side 2: sc in each row end from Row 1 up to Row 80. (80 sts, corners not included)
- Join to the first sc and fasten off.
Total: 9 + 80 + 9 + 80 = 178 sts.
As you pass each basket, gently fold the wall back and work into the free row ends of columns 1 and 5.
Why the math works: Each short end has 5 sts. Working 3 sc in each end st and 1 sc in each of the 3 middle sts gives 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 sts: the 5 existing sts plus 4 added corner sts. Each long side has 80 rows, so 1 sc per row end gives exactly 80 sts. Sc rows are slightly shorter than sc sts are wide, so 1 sc per row keeps the edge a little snug and stops it from rippling. After the border, each strap is about 2 in (5.1 cm) wide and 20.5 in (52.1 cm) long.
Attach the ring. Fold Rows 75–80 of each strap over the bottom of the wooden ring toward the back, placing the two straps side by side. Whipstitch each folded end to the back of Rows 69–74. Check that neither strap is twisted.
Attach the appliqués. Place 2 leaves behind each daisy, angled down and outward at about 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock, and sew them on first. Center the daisy over wall st 30, between Rnds 16 and 17. Sew around the yellow center and the base of each petal, leaving the petal tips free so they stand out slightly.
Final Blocking
- Weave in all remaining ends, running each one back on itself.
- Lightly mist the holder with water, or steam it from 1 in (2.5 cm) above. Don’t press the iron onto it.
- Fill each basket with a rolled towel or a toilet roll so the walls dry as true cylinders.
- Hang the holder by its ring and pin the straps so they hang straight.
- Flatten the daisy petals with your fingers and shape the leaf tips to a point.
- Let it dry completely, at least 12 hours, before adding rolls.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Each basket has 60 sts in every wall round and measures 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across.
- All 3 walls are 3 in (7.6 cm) tall, with a clean ridge at the base.
- Both straps have 80 rows and 178 border sts.
- Each gap between baskets is 1.5 in (3.8 cm).
- On every basket, the straps sit at wall sts 15 and 45, so the baskets hang level.
- Each daisy is centered on st 30 and has 8 even petals and 2 leaves.
- Neither strap is twisted at the ring.
- A roll slides in and out easily.
Troubleshooting
- Base cups or ruffles: Recount your stitches. Rnd 10 must have exactly 60 sts.
- Walls lean outward: The fabric is too loose. Go down a hook size.
- Baskets hang crooked: One strap is attached a row off. Match strap Row 1 to wall Rnd 11 on both sides.
- Strap edge ripples: You worked extra stitches. Redo the border with exactly 80 sts on each long side.
- Flower cups: Rnd 2 is too tight. Block it flat, or redo Rnd 2 with a 5.5 mm (I-9) hook.
- Holder tilts on the hook: The strap folds are different lengths. Re-sew both to Rows 69–74.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, reshape, and dry flat or hanging. Remove the wooden ring before washing, or keep it dry.

Final Notes
The measurements all build from one basket:
– At gauge, 60 sts make a basket 5.5 in (14.0 cm) across.
– The 12 wall rounds measure 3 in (7.6 cm) and line up with 12 strap rows.
– Three baskets and two 6-row gaps use 48 strap rows, or 12 in (30.5 cm).
– The hanging section and ring fold bring each strap to 80 rows, or 20 in (50.8 cm).
– The border adds 4 corner sts at each end and 80 sts along each long side, for 178 sts per strap.
If your first basket matches its checkpoints, everything after it will line up.
Happy crocheting!
