Golden Fleur is a lace window curtain with a vintage feel. A valance of pointed lace triangles runs across the top, and below it hang long strands of fleur-de-lis motifs, almond-shaped medallions, round crochet beads, and soft tassels. Light passes between the strands, so the window stays bright.
The palette is two colors: cream for the lace bodies and warm gold for the outlines, header, cords, and accents. The gold edging gives each motif a crisp, embroidered look.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. The finished curtain measures 36 in (91.4 cm) wide and 27.75 in (70.5 cm) long, including the header.
You’ll make nine lace triangles and join them at their top corners. Next you’ll add a five-row header with hanging loops. Then you’ll build nine main strands and ten bead cords from separate motifs, beads, and tassels.

Materials
Choose a smooth mercerized cotton in sport weight. It gives crisp stitch definition, blocks sharply, and holds the points well. Avoid fuzzy blends, because they blur the mesh.

- Gold: 250 g, about 775 m (5 balls of 50 g / 155 m)
These quantities include a margin of about 15% for swatching and tassels.
Tools:
– 3.0 mm crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
– Stitch markers
– Scrap cream yarn or fiberfill for stuffing the beads
– Two pieces of cardboard, 4.5 in (11.4 cm) and 3.5 in (8.9 cm) long, for the tassels
– Blocking mats, rust-proof pins, and a spray bottle
– Measuring tape

Special stitch – Picot: ch 3, sl st in the 3rd ch from the hook.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 24 dc and 12 dc rows = 4 in (10.2 cm). Single crochet works at the same width: 6 sc = 1 in (2.5 cm).
Make one triangle before anything else, and check it at each stage:
- After Row 1: 24 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm)
- After Row 13 (unblocked): about 4.25 in (10.8 cm) deep
- First fleur: about 3.5 in (8.9 cm) wide x 3.75 in (9.5 cm) tall
- First medallion: about 2.5 in (6.4 cm) x 4.25 in (10.8 cm)
- First bead: about 0.75 in (1.9 cm) across
If your piece is too big, go down a hook size. If it’s too small, go up a hook size. Width is what matters most, because nine triangles multiply any error. For example, a triangle that is 0.25 in too wide makes the curtain 2.25 in too wide.

Valance Triangle (make 9)
The triangles are worked from the top edge down to the tip.
Row 1 (RS, cream): Ch 25, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Turn. (24 sts)
Rows 2–11: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc2tog, [ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st] to the last 2 sts, dc2tog. Turn. Count each ch-1 sp as a stitch. Work into dc and ch-1 sps as they come; this offsets the mesh into a diagonal lattice.
Stitch counts:
– Row 2: 22 sts
– Row 3: 20 sts
– Row 4: 18 sts
– Row 5: 16 sts
– Row 6: 14 sts
– Row 7: 12 sts
– Row 8: 10 sts
– Row 9: 8 sts
– Row 10: 6 sts
– Row 11: 4 sts
Row 12: Ch 2, dc2tog twice. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 13: Ch 2, dc2tog. (1 st – the tip) Fasten off.
Gold edging: With RS facing, join gold at the top right corner on the side edge of Row 1. Work along the slanted side:
– 1 sc in the Row 1 row-end
– 2 sc in each row-end of Rows 2–13 (25 sc)
Then work 3 sc in the tip st. Work up the second side the same way, 2 sc in each row-end of Rows 13–2 and 1 sc in the Row 1 row-end (25 sc). Fasten off. (53 sc: 25 + 3 + 25)
Leave the top edge (the foundation chain) unworked for now.
Fleur-de-Lis Motif (make 5)
Base ring (cream): Ch 4, sl st to the first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in the ring, sl st to the first sc. (8 sc)
Left petal: Sl st in the next sc. Ch 13, then work back along the chain:
– 4 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook (this is the curl)
– dc in the next 2 ch
– tr in the next 4 ch
– dc in the next 2 ch
– hdc in the next ch
– sc in the last ch
Sl st in the next ring sc. (14 sts)
Center petal: Ch 17. Work back down the chain toward the ring: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in the next ch, dc in the next 3 ch, tr in the next 5 ch, dc in the next 3 ch, hdc in the next 2 ch, sc in the last ch (16 sts). Sl st in the next ring sc.
Now work up the other side of the chain into the free loops: sc, hdc 2, dc 3, tr 5, dc 3, hdc, sc (16 sts). Make a picot at the tip and sl st in the skipped tip ch. (32 sts + tip picot)
Right petal: Sl st in the next ring sc and work it the same as the left petal. Fold the chain toward the right before working, so the curl falls outward. (14 sts) Sl st in the next ring sc. Fasten off. Two ring sc stay free at the base.
Gold edging: Join gold in the first free ring sc and work around the whole outline:
– Free ring sc: sc in each (2 sc)
– Each side petal: 2 sc in each of the 4 curl dc (8 sc), sc in each of the other 10 sts (10 sc), and sc in each of the 11 bare chain loops on the inner edge (11 sc) (29 sc per petal)
– Center petal: sc in each of the 32 sts and 3 sc in the tip picot (35 sc)
– Between petals: sl st in the valley without adding stitches
Edging total: 95 sc (2 + 29 + 35 + 29). Fasten off.
Almond Medallion (make 13)
Rnd 1 (cream): Ch 12. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 9 ch, 3 sc in the last ch. Working along the other side of the chain, sc in the next 9 ch, then 2 sc in the first ch. Sl st to the first sc. (24 sc) The tips are st 12 and st 24.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc in each st around, working (dc, ch 2, dc) in each tip st. Sl st to the top of the ch-3. (24 dc worked 1 per st + 2 extra dc = 26 dc and 2 ch-2 tip sps; 13 dc per side)
Rnd 3: Sl st into a tip sp and ch 3 (counts as the first dc). Then on each side:
– dc in the first dc
– [ch 2, sk 1, dc in next] 6 times
– (dc, ch 3, dc) in the tip sp
Sl st to the top of the beginning ch-3. (18 dc, 12 ch-2 sps, 2 ch-3 tip sps) Fasten off.
Rnd 4 (gold): Sc in each dc, 3 sc in each ch-2 sp, and 5 sc in each ch-3 tip sp. Sl st to the first sc. (64 sc: 18 + 36 + 10) Fasten off.
Rnd 5 (cream): Sc in the next 2 sc, picot; repeat from * around. Sl st to the first sc. (64 sc, 32 picots)* Fasten off.
Crochet Beads (make 76 gold, 76 cream)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in an MR. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (12)
Rnd 3: Sc in each st. (12)
Stuff firmly with scraps.
Rnd 4: Sc2tog 6 times. (6) Close the hole and weave in the ends.
Tassels and Cords
Large tassels (make 9): Wrap cream 30 times and gold 10 times around the 4.5 in (11.4 cm) card. Tie the bundle at the top and cut the loops at the bottom. Wrap gold tightly 0.5 in (1.3 cm) below the top to form the head. Trim the tassel to 4 in (10.2 cm).
Small tassels (make 10): Wrap cream 20 times around the 3.5 in (8.9 cm) card and finish the same way. Trim to 3 in (7.6 cm).
Cords (gold): Ch to the length needed, then sl st in the back bump of each ch. This firm cord won’t stretch under the weight of the motifs. You need:
– 9 main cords, 18 in (45.7 cm) each
– 10 bead cords, 22.75 in (57.8 cm) each

Layout (seen from the front):
Header: [ L . L . L . L . L . L . L . L . L . L ] L = hanging loop
Points: T1 T2 T3 T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9
Cords: b A b B b A b B b A b B b A b B b A b
A = fleur strand (5), B = double-medallion strand (4), b = bead cord (10).
Strand A, top to bottom (22 in / 55.9 cm):
– 0.5 in (1.3 cm) cord
– 4 beads
– 0.5 in cord
– fleur
– 0.5 in cord
– 3 beads
– 0.5 in cord
– medallion
– 0.5 in cord
– 3 beads
– large tassel
Strand B (22 in / 55.9 cm):
– 1.5 in (3.8 cm) cord
– 3 beads
– 0.5 in cord
– medallion
– 0.5 in cord
– 3 beads
– 0.5 in cord
– medallion
– 0.5 in cord
– 2 beads
– large tassel
Bead cord (25.75 in / 65.4 cm):
– 1.75 in (4.4 cm) cord
– 7 repeats of [bead, then 2.25 in (5.7 cm) cord]
– small tassel
Assembly:
– Beads: Use a tapestry needle to pull the cord through the center of each bead, then tack it in place above and below.
– Fleurs: Tack the cord behind the motif at the center-petal picot and at the base ring, so the fleur stands upright.
– Medallions: Tack the cord at both tips, with the long axis vertical.
– Tassels: Tie each tassel to the end of its cord.
Joining
Lay the triangles RS up in a row so their top corners touch.
Method: Hold two neighboring triangles RS together. With gold, whipstitch the top 3 edging sc on the right side of the left triangle to the top 3 edging sc on the left side of the right triangle. Join stitch to stitch: st 1 to st 1, st 2 to st 2, st 3 to st 3. These 3 sc cover the Row 1 and Row 2 row-ends, so each valley opens just below Row 2.
Repeat until all 8 seams are done. Do not add any stitches at the seams.
Tension: Pull each stitch snug but not tight. The top edges should lie in a straight line without puckering.
Size checkpoint: Lay the strip flat. The top edge should measure 36 in (91.4 cm), and each tip should hang 4.25 in (10.8 cm) below the top.
Border (Header)
Border gauge: 6 sc = 1 in (2.5 cm), the same as Row 1 of the triangles.
Row 1 (RS, gold): Join gold at the top right corner. Sc in each of the 24 free foundation loops of each triangle, working straight from one triangle into the next. Turn. (9 x 24 = 216 sc) Each triangle’s 24 already includes its 2 corner stitches, so no stitches are added at the seams.
Row 2 (cream): Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st across. Turn. (216 dc)
Row 3 (cream): Ch 3 (counts as dc), then:
– [ch 1, sk 1, dc in next] 107 times
– dc in the last st
Turn. (109 dc + 107 ch-1 sps = 216 sts)
Row 4 (gold): Ch 1, sc in each dc and each ch-1 sp across. Turn. (216 sc)
Row 5 (gold, hanging loops): Ch 1, sc in each st across. In st 1, in every 24th st (24, 48, 72, … 216), work (sc, ch 12, sl st in that sc) instead of a plain sc. The loops sit above each seam and at the ends. (216 sc + 10 loops) Fasten off.
Why the math works: 216 sc ÷ 6 sc per inch = 36 in (91.4 cm), which exactly matches the joined valance. Every border row keeps 216 stitches, so the header neither ruffles nor pulls in. The 5 rows add about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) of depth, bringing the valance to 5.75 in (14.6 cm).
The ch-12 loops are about 2 in (5.1 cm) long and fit a rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) in diameter.
Final Blocking
Block before attaching the strands.
- Pin the valance RS up, with the top edge straight at 36 in (91.4 cm).
- Pin each tip down to 4.25 in (10.8 cm) below the triangle top, with the slanted sides straight.
- Pin each fleur and medallion to its checkpoint size, opening the picots and curling the side petals outward.
- Mist everything until damp, not soaked.
- Let everything dry completely, then unpin.
- Attach the strands and cords. Hang the curtain and let it settle for one day.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Top edge measures 36 in (91.4 cm)
- Every border row has 216 sts
- 10 hanging loops, evenly spaced
- All 9 tips are level and 4.25 in (10.8 cm) deep
- Each fleur has 95 edging sc; each medallion has 32 picots
- Main strands are all 22 in (55.9 cm); bead cords are 25.75 in (65.4 cm)
- Tassel ends line up within 0.5 in (1.3 cm)
- Every tacking point is secure and all ends are woven in
Troubleshooting
- Triangle leans to one side: You skipped a dc2tog. Count each row against the list.
- Header ruffles: You have more than 216 sts. Recount Row 1 per triangle.
- Header pulls in: Your gauge is tight. Go up a hook size for the border only.
- Fleur petals lie flat: Re-block and pin the curls outward.
- Medallion tips are rounded: Make sure you worked 5 sc into each tip sp in Rnd 4.
- Strands twist: Make sure the cords are worked as sl st into the back bump, then steam lightly.
- Beads slide: Add a tacking stitch above and below each bead.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, roll it in a towel, and dry it flat in its blocked shape. Keep it out of the dryer so the strands and points don’t deform.

Final Notes
Here is the measurement chain:
– 24 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm) per triangle
– 9 triangles = 216 sts = 36 in (91.4 cm)
– Valance depth 5.75 in (14.6 cm) + strands 22 in (55.9 cm) = 27.75 in (70.5 cm) total
Check your first triangle and first motifs carefully, and every piece after them will fall into place.
Happy crocheting!
