The Lavender Bloom curtain is a light, airy window hanging made from chains of open-petal flowers. Each flower has a thick corded center ring and six open teardrop petals. The flowers link tip to tip into tall strands, and every strand ends with a full yarn tassel.
The palette is soft lavender and butter yellow, alternating strand by strand. The style is somewhere between boho and cottage. It works in a window, a doorway, a nursery corner, or behind a bed.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. Each flower measures 4.5 in (11.4 cm) from tip to tip. One finished strand is about 38.25 in (97.2 cm) long, counting the hanging loop and tassel. Eight strands spaced across a rod cover about 39.5 in (100.3 cm) of width.
Here’s how it’s built. You make a single crochet ring, add six chain-loop petals, and then cover each loop with single crochet. Join each new flower to the one above it while you work its last round. Finish each strand with a corded hanging loop at the top and a tassel at the bottom.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished curtain: 39.5 in (100.3 cm) wide × 38.25 in (97.2 cm) long
- Skill level: Easy / advanced beginner
- Terminology: US crochet terms
- Yarn weight: Worsted weight (#4), cotton or cotton blend
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8)
- Number of pieces: 48 flowers (6 per strand × 8 strands), 8 hanging loops, 8 tassels
- Layout: 8 vertical strands × 6 flowers, colors alternating by strand
- Piece size: one flower is 4.5 in (11.4 cm) tip to tip
- Strand body before finishing: 29.5 in (74.9 cm), from 6 flowers plus 5 links
- Border depth: there’s no frame border. The finishing is a 2.75 in (7.0 cm) hanging loop at the top and a 6 in (15.2 cm) tassel at the bottom.
Materials
Yarn: Use a smooth, tightly plied worsted cotton or cotton blend, about 190 m per 100 g. Cotton keeps the petals crisp and helps the strands hang straight. Avoid fuzzy or very stretchy acrylics, which let the petals droop.
- Lavender: 130 g (about 247 m) for 24 flowers, 4 hanging loops, and 4 tassels
- Butter yellow: 130 g (about 247 m) for 24 flowers, 4 hanging loops, and 4 tassels
These quantities include a margin of about 30%. One flower uses about 5.5 m (3 g), one hanging loop about 1.3 m, and one tassel about 13.2 m.
Tools:
- 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Sharp scissors
- A piece of stiff cardboard, 6.5 in (16.5 cm) tall, for the tassels
- Stitch marker
- Blocking mat, rustproof pins, and a spray bottle
- Curtain rod or tension rod, up to 1.5 in (3.8 cm) in diameter
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- sp: space
- rep: repeat
- st(s): stitch(es)
Special technique – covering a loop: Work each sc into the chain space, around the whole chain, not into individual chains. Push the stitches together as you go. This gives the rounded, corded look you see on the petals and the hanging loop.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Swatch gauge: 16 sc = 4 in (10.2 cm) in rows. Gauge isn’t critical for a curtain, but it controls the flower size, how much yarn you use, and how long the strands end up.
Make one complete flower before you start production, and check it at each stage:
- After Round 1: the ring is 1.5 in (3.8 cm) across the outside edge.
- After Round 3: the flower is 4.5 in (11.4 cm) from the top petal tip to the bottom petal tip, and each petal sticks out about 1.5 in (3.8 cm) from the ring.
If your flower is bigger than 4.75 in (12.1 cm): go down to a 4.5 mm hook, or work the chains more tightly.
If your flower is smaller than 4.25 in (10.8 cm): go up to a 5.5 mm hook.
If the petals curl or ruffle, your tension in Round 3 is off. See Troubleshooting.

Flower Motif
Start with a slipknot on your hook.
Round 1 (center ring): Ch 12, then sl st to the first ch to form a ring. Ch 1 (this doesn’t count as a stitch). Work 24 sc into the ring, covering the chain completely. Sl st to the first sc.
(24 sc)
The ring should look thick and rope-like, with an open center about 0.75 in (1.9 cm) across.
Round 2 (petal frames): Sl st in the first sc. Ch 14, skip the next 2 sc, sl st in the next sc, then sl st in the next sc. Rep from * 4 more times, then rep from * to ** once more.
(6 ch-14 loops, 12 sl sts)*
Each petal is anchored across 4 sc of the ring. Since 6 × 4 = 24, the petals end exactly where the round started. Number the loops 1 to 6 in the order you made them. Loop 1 is the top petal, and loop 4 is directly opposite it as the bottom petal.
Round 3 (petal covering): In the next ch-14 loop, work (10 sc, ch 2, 10 sc). Rep from * 5 more times. Sl st to the first sc and fasten off.
(120 sc and 6 ch-2 tip sps)*
Each petal gets 20 sc and 1 ch-2 tip. The tip gives the petal a gentle point and is your joining spot. Weave in the ends along the back of the ring.
For the first flower of each strand, work Round 3 exactly as written above.
For flowers 2 to 6 of each strand, use the joining version of Round 3 described under Joining.
Make All Pieces
Make 24 lavender flowers and 24 yellow flowers. Each strand uses only one color.
| Strand | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Color | L | Y | L | Y | L | Y | L | Y |
Each strand looks like this, from top to bottom:
[loop] [loop] [loop] [loop] [loop] [loop] [loop] [loop]
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 1
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 2
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 3
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 4
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 5
L Y L Y L Y L Y flower 6
[tassel][tassel][tassel][tassel][tassel][tassel][tassel][tassel]
L = lavender, Y = butter yellow.
Joining
Method: You join as you go at the petal tips. There’s no sewing, and the strands are never joined to each other.
Stitch-to-stitch logic: Make Rounds 1 and 2 of the new flower as usual. Then work Round 3 like this:
- Petal 1 (top): In loop 1, work 10 sc, ch 2, then sl st into the ch-2 tip sp of petal 4 on the flower above. Ch 2, then work 10 sc in loop 1 to finish the petal.
- Petals 2 to 6: Work these as written, (10 sc, ch 2, 10 sc) in each loop. Sl st to the first sc and fasten off.
The joined petal still has 20 sc, so the stitch count stays at 120 sc. The ch 2 + sl st + ch 2 forms a short link between the two tips, about 0.5 in (1.3 cm) long. That matches the small gap you see between the flowers.
Tension: Keep the link chains the same size as your other chains. Before you make the sl st, check that petal 4 of the upper flower and petal 1 of the new flower are both pointing straight along the strand and that neither is twisted. A twisted link makes the whole strand turn sideways.
Size checkpoints:
- After 3 flowers, the strand is 3 × 4.5 + 2 × 0.5 = 14.5 in (36.8 cm).
- After 6 flowers, it’s 6 × 4.5 + 5 × 0.5 = 29.5 in (74.9 cm).
Border: Hanging Loop and Tassel Finish
This curtain is made of free-hanging strands, so it doesn’t have a frame border. Each strand gets a top and bottom finish instead, worked to exact counts.
Border gauge: Cover the hanging-loop chain at the same density as the petals, about 3 sc for every 2 ch.
Top edge – hanging loop (on flower 1 of each strand): Join the strand’s color in the ch-2 tip sp of petal 1. Ch 24, then sl st in the same tip sp. Work 36 sc over the ch-24 loop, then sl st in the tip sp. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
(1 loop of 36 sc per strand, about 2.75 in / 7.0 cm long)
Bottom edge – tassel (on flower 6 of each strand):
- Wrap yarn 40 times around the 6.5 in (16.5 cm) card.
- Slide a 10 in (25.4 cm) tie under the wraps at the top edge and knot it tightly.
- Cut the wraps at the bottom edge.
- Wrap a separate strand 6 times around the bundle, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) below the top. Knot it and bury its ends inside the tassel.
- Trim the tassel to 6 in (15.2 cm).
- Thread the two tie ends through the ch-2 tip sp of petal 4. Knot them, then bury the ends in the tassel head.
Why the math works:
- With 36 sc over 24 ch (a 1.5 ratio), the stitches sit side by side without flaring or squeezing together. The petals use nearly the same ratio, 20 over 14.
- Petals 1 and 4 are exactly 3 petals apart. That means they sit 180° apart, so the loop, every link, and the tassel line up on one straight vertical line.
- Total strand length is 2.75 + 29.5 + 6 = 38.25 in (97.2 cm).
- Width is 8 flowers × 4.5 in plus 7 gaps × 0.5 in = 39.5 in (100.3 cm). On the rod, space the strands 5 in (12.7 cm) apart from center to center.
Final Blocking
- Lay each strand flat on the blocking mat and straighten the line of links.
- Mist the strand until it’s evenly damp, but not soaked.
- Pin each center ring into a circle 1.5 in (3.8 cm) across.
- Pin each petal tip so the flower measures 4.5 in (11.4 cm) tip to tip, with the petals evenly spaced.
- Pin the links straight, keeping 0.5 in (1.3 cm) between the tips.
- Let everything dry completely before you unpin it.
- Steam the tassels lightly, comb them straight, and trim any uneven ends.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every flower has 24 sc in Round 1 and 120 sc plus 6 tip spaces in Round 3.
- All 48 flowers measure between 4.25 in (10.8 cm) and 4.75 in (12.1 cm).
- Each strand is 6 flowers long, with 5 untwisted links.
- Each strand is 29.5 in (74.9 cm) long before the loop and tassel.
- Each hanging loop has 36 sc and fits over your rod.
- All tassels are 6 in (15.2 cm) long and tied tightly.
- The strand colors alternate L, Y, L, Y across the rod.
- All ends are woven in on the back.
Troubleshooting
- The petals ruffle: You’re using too many sc for your chain length. Work 9 sc, ch 2, 9 sc instead. Do this the same way on every flower.
- The petals pucker or curl inward: Your chains are too tight. Loosen them, or chain with a hook one size larger.
- There’s a gap in the center ring: Push the Round 1 stitches together before joining. If you can’t fit 24, your ring chain is too tight.
- The strand twists: One link is twisted. Undo that petal and redo the join.
- The tassel slips off: Double-knot the tie and add a dab of fabric glue inside the tassel head.
- The strands are different lengths: Measure each flower again and block the short strands to match.
Care
Dust the curtain or shake it gently. For a deeper clean, hand-wash it in cool water, roll it in a towel, and dry it flat with pins.

Final Notes
The measurement chain is simple to follow:
- A 1.5 in (3.8 cm) ring becomes a 4.5 in (11.4 cm) flower.
- Six flowers and five 0.5 in (1.3 cm) links make a 29.5 in (74.9 cm) strand.
- The loop and tassel bring each strand to 38.25 in (97.2 cm).
- Eight strands span 39.5 in (100.3 cm).
Check that first flower carefully, and the rest of the curtain will follow. Happy crocheting!
