The Lagoon Almond Link Curtain is a light, airy window treatment made of vertical strands. Each strand is a chain of pointed almond motifs with open centers, so daylight comes through the curtain while the shapes still give it a clear pattern.
Deep teal and cream strands alternate across each panel. Every strand hangs from a cream tab loop and ends in a full tassel that matches its color. The style is relaxed boho: graphic shapes, natural cotton texture and no stiff edges.
This pattern uses US crochet terms. One strand is 70 in (177.8 cm) long from the top of the rod to the end of the tassel. One panel with 6 strands hung 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart, center to center, is about 20 in (50.8 cm) wide. The pattern makes two panels.
Each strand is worked in one piece from the top down. You make a tab, join the strand color to it, then crochet a link chain and a motif, then another link and another motif, until the strand has 14 motifs. A tassel finishes the bottom.
Finished Size and Construction
- Finished strand length: 70 in (177.8 cm), tab to tassel tip
- Motif size: 2.5 in (6.4 cm) wide x 3.5 in (8.9 cm) long
- Panel width: about 20 in (50.8 cm) as hung
- Skill level: Easy-intermediate
- Terminology: US
- Yarn weight: Worsted (#4), cotton or cotton blend
- Hook: 5.0 mm (US H-8)
- Number of pieces: 12 strands, each with its own tab and tassel (6 per panel)
- Layout: 6 strands per panel, alternating teal and cream
- Piece size: each strand has 14 motifs and 15 links
- Size before finishing: 64 in (162.6 cm) of links and motifs, without tab or tassel
- Finishing depth: the tab adds 2 in (5.1 cm) at the top and the tassel adds 4 in (10.2 cm) at the bottom
Materials
Choose a smooth, firmly twisted worsted cotton. Cotton holds the pointed almond shape well and doesn’t stretch much under the weight of a long strand. Acrylic tends to grow when hung, so avoid it if you can.
- Color A, Deep Teal: 450 m, about 265 g (three 100 g balls of 170 m each)
- Color B, Cream: 500 m, about 295 g (three 100 g balls of 170 m each)
These amounts include about a 10% margin for gauge differences and tassel trimming.
Tools:
– 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
– Scissors
– A stiff card 8 in (20.3 cm) long, for winding tassels
– Stitch markers
– A tape measure
– A curtain rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) thick
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sp: space
- st(s): stitch(es)
Special stitch: Point. Work (sc, ch 2, sc) into the stitch or space given. Each point has 2 sc. One belongs to each side of the motif.
Gauge and Checkpoints
Gauge: 16 sc and 18 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm) in rows of sc.
Make one complete test motif before you start a full strand, and check it at each stage:
- After Round 1: 2.75 in (7.0 cm) long x 1 in (2.5 cm) wide
- After Round 2: 3.25 in (8.3 cm) long x 1.75 in (4.4 cm) wide
- After Round 3: 3.5 in (8.9 cm) long x 2.5 in (6.4 cm) wide
- One link plus one motif: 4.5 in (11.4 cm)
If your motif is too big, go down 0.5 mm in hook size. If it is too small, go up 0.5 mm. Being off by 0.25 in (0.6 cm) per motif adds up to 3.5 in (8.9 cm) over a strand, so get the size right on the test motif first.

Hanging Tab (Make 12, Cream)
With Color B, ch 7.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (6 sc)
Rows 2–18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (6 sc)
The tab measures 1.5 in (3.8 cm) wide x 4 in (10.2 cm) long.
Fold the tab in half so Row 18 lines up with the foundation chain. Sl st through both layers across all 6 sts to close the loop, then fasten off. The folded loop hangs 2 in (5.1 cm) deep and fits a rod up to 1.25 in (3.2 cm) thick.
Make 12 tabs, one for every strand. Teal strands also get cream tabs.
Strand (Motifs and Links)
The first motif’s ring closes at Point A (top), where the link attaches. You then slip-stitch down to Point B (bottom). Every round starts and ends at Point B, so the yarn is already at the bottom when you need to start the next link.
Start the Strand
Hold the tab with the seam at the bottom. Join the strand color with a sl st through both layers in the 3rd st of the seam.
Link: Ch 5.
Motif
Ring: Ch 16. Sl st in the 16th ch from the hook, which is the first ch of these 16. This forms a ring of 16 ch. The ch you joined into is Point A (ch 1). It sits right next to the link. Count around the ring from it: ch 9 is Point B.
Move to Point B: Sl st in each of the next 8 ch (ch 2 through ch 9). You are now at Point B.
Round 1: Ch 1. Work a Point in ch 9. Sc in each of the next 7 ch (ch 10–16). Work a Point in ch 1 (Point A), keeping the link centered between the 2 sc. Sc in each of the next 7 sts (the sl sts sitting on ch 2–8). Join with a sl st to the first sc.
(18 sc and 2 ch-2 sps. 9 sts per side: 7 sc plus the 2 point sc that side shares.)
Round 2: Sl st in the ch-2 sp. Ch 1, work a Point in the same sp. Then:
– sc in the next st, hdc in the next 2, dc in the next 3, hdc in the next 2, sc in the next st (9 sts)
– Point in the next ch-2 sp at Point A
– repeat the 9 sts in the same order
Join to the first sc.
(22 sts and 2 ch-2 sps. 11 sts per side: 9 plus the 2 point sc.)
Round 3: Sl st in the ch-2 sp. Ch 1, work a Point in the same sp. Then:
– sc in the next 2 sts, hdc in the next 2, dc in the next 3, hdc in the next 2, sc in the next 2 (11 sts)
– Point in the next ch-2 sp at Point A
– repeat the 11 sts in the same order
Join to the first sc.
(26 sts and 2 ch-2 sps. 13 sts per side: 11 plus the 2 point sc.)
Rounds 2 and 3 go from short stitches at the points to dc at the center of each side. That curve gives the motif its almond outline, while the ring inside keeps the matching almond-shaped opening.
Stitch check: 2 sides x 13 sts = 26 sts. Each Point puts 1 sc on each side, so the 4 point sc are already counted in the 13 per side. None of them is counted twice.
Continue the Strand
Sl st in the ch-2 sp at Point B. Link: ch 5. Then start the next motif with its Ring.
Repeat the Ring, Rounds 1–3 and the link until you have 14 motifs. After the 14th motif, sl st in the Point B sp, ch 5 for the final link and fasten off. Leave a 12 in (30.5 cm) tail for attaching the tassel.
Strand checkpoint (before the tab and tassel are counted in):
| Part | Length |
|---|---|
| Top link | 1 in (2.5 cm) |
| 14 motifs | 49 in (124.5 cm) |
| 13 links between motifs | 13 in (33.0 cm) |
| Bottom link | 1 in (2.5 cm) |
| Total | 64 in (162.6 cm) |
Make All Pieces
| Piece | Color A, Teal | Color B, Cream |
|---|---|---|
| Strands | 6 | 6 |
| Tabs | 0 | 12 |
| Tassels | 6 | 6 |
Each panel has 6 strands, hung left to right:
Panel 1: [A] [B] [A] [B] [A] [B]
Panel 2: [A] [B] [A] [B] [A] [B]
A = teal strand and B = cream strand. Every strand has a cream tab.
Joining
The strands are never joined to each other. They hang free so light and air pass between them. Each strand has two joins.
Tab to strand: The strand yarn is attached through both layers of the tab seam at st 3 of 6. That centers the strand under the loop, with 2 seam sts on one side of the join and 3 on the other. Pull the first link chain snug so the join doesn’t sag.
Motif to motif: Each link runs from one motif’s Point B sp to the next motif’s Point A ring ch. Make the 5 link ch at the same tension as your motif stitches. Loose links stretch, and over 13 links that can add 2 in (5.1 cm) or more.
Hanging: Slide 6 tabs onto the rod for each panel. Space them 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart, center to center. That leaves a 1 in (2.5 cm) gap between the edges of neighboring motifs (3.5 in minus 2.5 in). Panel width = 5 gaps x 3.5 in + 2.5 in for one motif = 20 in (50.8 cm).
Size checkpoint: Before you add the tassel, hang one strand and let it settle overnight. From the top of the rod to the end of the bottom link it should measure 66 in (167.6 cm): the 2 in (5.1 cm) tab plus 64 in (162.6 cm) of strand.
Border: Hanging Tabs and Tassels
This curtain has no stitched edging. Its finishing is the tab at the top of each strand and the tassel at the bottom.
Tab gauge: 6 sc = 1.5 in (3.8 cm) and 18 rows = 4 in (10.2 cm), matching the main gauge of 16 sc and 18 rows per 4 in (10.2 cm).
Tab counts per side:
– Width: 6 sts in every row, Rows 1–18
– Length: 18 rows on each long edge
– Seam: 6 sl sts through both layers
Tassel (make 6 teal and 6 cream):
1. Wrap the yarn 30 times around the 8 in (20.3 cm) card.
2. Slide a 10 in (25.4 cm) strand under the wraps at one edge and tie it tight. This is the top of the tassel.
3. Cut the wraps at the opposite edge. You now have 60 ends, each 4 in (10.2 cm) long.
4. Wrap a separate strand 8 times around the bundle, 0.75 in (1.9 cm) below the tied top, to form the head. Knot it and hide the ends inside the tassel.
5. Thread the strand’s 12 in (30.5 cm) tail through the top tie and knot it firmly to the end of the bottom link.
6. Trim the tassel ends evenly to 4 in (10.2 cm).
Why the math works: The folded tab hangs 2 in (5.1 cm). The links and motifs total 64 in (162.6 cm). The tassel adds 4 in (10.2 cm). Together that’s 2 + 64 + 4 = 70 in (177.8 cm).
Final Blocking
- Lay each strand flat on a towel or blocking mat.
- Mist the motifs with water until they are damp but not soaked.
- Pinch each motif’s points so they come to a sharp almond tip.
- Pin each motif to 2.5 in (6.4 cm) x 3.5 in (8.9 cm), with the opening straight and centered.
- Straighten each link so it lies flat at 1 in (2.5 cm).
- Steam the tassels lightly and comb the ends straight.
- Let everything dry completely, then hang.
Final Quality-Control Checklist
- Every motif has 26 sts and 2 ch-2 sps, with 13 sts per side.
- Every strand has 14 motifs and 15 links.
- Each strand measures 64 in (162.6 cm) before the tab and tassel are added.
- Each tab is 6 sts wide and 18 rows long, and is seamed closed.
- Each strand hangs from the center of its tab.
- Tassels match their strands and are trimmed to 4 in (10.2 cm).
- All yarn ends are woven in securely.
- Each panel’s strands alternate A, B, A, B, A, B.
Troubleshooting
Motif points are rounded. Your ch-2 point spaces may be too tight. Make the ch 2 a little looser and work the Point sc firmly.
The opening twists into an S-shape. Check that each side has exactly 7 sc in Round 1. One extra stitch on a side will twist the motif.
The strand grows after hanging. Your link chains are too loose. Go down a hook size for the links only.
Teal and cream strands are different lengths. The two yarns may give different gauges. Measure a 5-motif section of each strand and adjust your hook for the longer color.
The tab slips on the rod. Use a rod no thicker than 1.25 in (3.2 cm), or add 2 rows to each tab.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap, press out the water in a towel, and dry flat with the motifs reshaped. Don’t wring the strands or tumble dry them.

Final Notes
The measurements build on each other. A 3.5 in (8.9 cm) motif and a 1 in (2.5 cm) link make a 4.5 in (11.4 cm) repeat. Fourteen motifs and 15 links give 64 in (162.6 cm). With the 2 in (5.1 cm) tab and the 4 in (10.2 cm) tassel, each strand is 70 in (177.8 cm). Six strands hung 3.5 in (8.9 cm) apart make a panel 20 in (50.8 cm) wide. If your first motif measures correctly, the rest of the curtain will too.
Happy crocheting!
